Hey guys,
I’m a member of the Rhode Island Soaring Club and had the opportunity to catch the last practice session of the USA Team F3B on Saturday July 1st at our very own Heaton Orchard field. Their next destination will be the F3B World Championships in Jesenik in the Czech republic

The overcast clouds hung low preventing speed runs, but it was still exhilarating watching expert piloting and teamwork. It was also very tense watching gliders that were works of art zoom launch into the clouds and disappear for what seemed like an eternity few seconds! Due to Saturday’s weather I was unable to experience the speed runs, I heard Sunday was much better.

We have to thank Alex Hall our President for coordinating this event. I would like to personally thank team pilot Mike Lachowski for being gracious and in good humor while I pummeled him with question about finding thermals and aerodynamics.

This short video captures some of the moments on Saturday.
