Hi Folks,
I have been out of work here for about 6 months, I do not have the DOD clearance to get a job near by, but I'm trying. Anyway. Delivered a heli Gaui X7 formula to a happy customer yesterday at the IRKS field. Today I was in Fort Lauderdale delivering an Ultra-Stick for a guys son.

I really like to build, not fly to much. Foamies mostly. I like the Crack Yack by twisted hobbies and their beaver is cool too.

Selling stuff off that are collecting dust, so you might check the classifieds to see the model items we have.

That's it for today.

Lots of fun watching people fly that know what they're doing! Really need to get some practice. Hadn't flown but once since November - and my landings sure showed.

Didn't take that many pictures this time, didn't want to push my knee too much (I was really giving out at the end)...anyhow, here are some snapshots from today:

This is the Maiden Flite for the E-Flite Pawnee Brave Night Flyer 1.2M BNF Basic RC Plane With AS3X Technology. In this video I fly the plane around and even do a loop on a cloudy windy day. The combination of wind and further trimming being required made this plane not feel that great in the air. I do think with additional trimming that this will be a good flyer and even during the day, the lights were awesome!

E-flite Brave Night Flyer 1.2M BNF Basic RC Plane With AS3X Technology Maiden Flight (3 min 22 sec)

Here are my preliminary review notes for this Crop Duster RC Plane:

Pros:
- The lights are amazing!
- It takes a 3S 2200 lipo
- It fits in my car, but just barely with the seats down
- It has a unique look

Cons:
- Even at the specified CG point and control surface recommendations, it did not fly level and smooth
- There were numerous defects out of the box including a bad battery bay cover, a pilot that wasn't glued in properly, and an uneven horizontal stabilizer.

Review (ip) of Eachine TX5258 - 5.8G 72CH 25/200/500/800mW Switchable FPV Transmitter w Support OSD Configuring (SmartAudio)

This is first, at least that I know of, SmartAudio capable VTX named TX5258 from Eachine.
I find Smartaudio protocol, and its capability to control VTX settings trough Betaflight OSD or with BetaFlight LUA script for Taranis (OpenTX) super convenient and I am starting to use it on all my newly built quads.

Specification:
  • Antenna Gain: 3dBi
  • Frequency: 5645-5945MHZ

My arkbird tiny can't find any satellites.

After powering on the indicator light (on the gyro unit) double flashes. Appently this indicates that it is searching for satellites. The green light on the GPS unit itself flashes a steady green. The manual also specifies that the elevator should be up at this point, however it remains stationary.

I have tried it without the GPS plugged in and all the surfaces function normally.

I have left it outside for a good twenty minutes and it is still indicating no signal.

Anything to try?

Drone racing career beckons for Australia's teenage world champion Thomas Bitmatta. The 18-year-old from Melbourne hit the big time last year when he edged out more than 300 of the world's top drone fliers to win the MultiGP International Open in the US. Bitmatta, from Roxburgh Park in Melbourne's north, has been accepted to study mechatronics but will defer for a year to travel the world — particularly the US — racing drones. Bitmatta will head to Florida this month to compete in the first US competition of the season.

Sandwich Cargo Drone Project (hybrid propulsion system) (3 min 35 sec)

After a few months of work, the first prototype is ready. In the video, we show some moments of construction and testing.

The propulsion system worked better than we expected, now we are focusing on a new generator that will allow staying in the air with 150 grams of fuel per hour (that's awesome if you think the weight at take-off is 5 kg).

The new frame will have a diagonal of one meter, so we will be able to use new motors with a thrust capability of 30 kg.

We saw that the market is really interested in the type of aircraft we are developing, that give us great expectations for the commercialization stage.

For any question please write at this email: nicolai.valenti@gmail.com

My review of this new Hubsan budget GPS drone is a preliminary report of the experience by a first-time user of a GPS 2.4Ghz WiFi vehicle. I received this prize win from Gearbest - many thanks !

Opening the quality box with full cardboard interior compartments, I found the completely assembled drone in perfect condition with hi voltage 2 cell LiPo installed. An empty battery box was also provided, along with extra 4 propellers, prop protectors, battery charger, controller with phone holder, screwdriver, USB charger, parts diagram, and a well-produced instruction manual.

First inspections showed :
*The drone has a good steady propeller geared system with what appears to be ball bearing support. The props spin in reverse direction to most, said to help keep the camera lens free from any debris coming off the props

*The controller battery door was difficult to slide open. I was afraid I might even break it, but finally it suddenly broke loose with a jolt.

*The battery balance plug and red JST connector and leads needed to be crammed into the bay in order to close the door.

*Everything fit, the LEDs turned on, and I put the battery to charge. The battery charged to the specifications exactly on both cells.

My old retired cellphone would not support the WiFi app. I had to borrow a phone, which was a new low-end Samsung (Hubsan staff recommends Samsung for Android users).

By following the instruction manual and app prompts, soon I had the phone linked...Continue Reading

More HOT HUMID weather forcing me to cower behind air-conditioning ( No I am not a summer person at all ) ...
So what to do ?
The parts were here to play with the DLG .. ( So thats what I did )

My DLG is ready for some chuck tests ...

First thing was to put a battery plug on the voltage booster .
Then test for shorts and adequate output voltage .
Then fit a servo plug with the signal wire removed .
Then I had to bind the 4ch Rx ..

With the Rx bound and the test servo working , it was time to plug the Rx into the servos in the DLG ..
Now with a 4Ch Rx , I had to mix 2 channels ( 2 and 3 ) to get the ailerons working correctly ..
This can be a little tricky with OpenTx , but I got there . ( So many ways to do it wrong )

Once the functions were correct , I limited servo travel so as not to over travel the control surfaces (?)
I might still have to much ... ( from mem 519 is max )
My ailerons are 200 and my elevator is 300 .. ( If you use Open Tx you probably understand )

Anyhow .. The DLG is at a starting point , CG is close ( a few mm forward of fact specs )
Wow , you really cant put much weight in the nose at all ... ( To make Factory specified CG )...Continue Reading

I've got some stick time under my belt with the Mini Contender and I discuss what I learned along with some changes I've made to the plane in this video. Just to give you incentive to watch, I talk about what happens when you mix ~125% high rates with 0 expo on a tiny plane--yes I did.

I also have a special request for RCG folks: If you regularly check my blog here, you'll see I generally get a couple thousand views per post. YouTube recently changed their rules for content creators to keep their partner status (i.e. ability to monetize their videos) to require a certain amount of watch time and 1000 subscribers. My channel gets the watch time, but I need some help on the subscribers.

Please feel free to check my posts here and watch some of my videos. You'll quickly see that I do my best to provide useful information. I keep my stuff G-rated and I try to help people. I doubt I'll ever make much $$ with my work, but any money I can make will be used for content I'll post here and on YT.

So, if you regularly check my blog here and watch my YT videos, I'd definitely appreciate a sub. If 1/4th of the viewers from most of my RCG blog posts subb'ed I'd be over the hurdle in a day. Thanks in advance for your support.

Here's the video:

Eagle Eye-30IE-360 30X EO/IR Dual Sensor Drone Zoom Camera With 360 Degree Rotation (2 min 42 sec)

Eagle Eye-30IE-360 is the new version of Eagle Eye-30IE,there are 2 features for this new 30X EO/IR zoom camera:the first one is its 360 degree rotation, that means the gimbal has unlimited Yaw angle, which is very useful in missions like security and surveillance.Imagine you are tracking a fast moving target, the tracking will possibly be lost if the gimbal reaches its Yaw angle limit. With the 360 rotation gimbal, this problem will no longer exist. The second feature for Eagle Eye-30IE-360 is that it is equipped with an Ethernet video out.In this case,IP video downlink can be used for video transmission.Anyway,if it happens that an HDMIvideo downlink is needed, then no problem, the gimbal comes with an IP over HDMI converter board.

There will be 2 modes for video out and video recored.
Mode 1:1080P 60FPS video out plus 640*480 video recorded.Mode 2:640*480 video out plus 1080P 60FPS video recorded
