The AWESOME UAV Q95 Brushless Micro FPV Racer is now available as a Flysky BNF, Frsky BNF or PNP model without receiver. Click me to purchase one of these great little micros.

AWESOME UAV has been making some nice flying quadcopters since coming into the FPV racing scene. Their Youbi 130 has been a popular 130mm option with many enthusiasts. I also recently reviewed their RS-220 model which I was really impressed with for the price. Now they have stepped into the micro brushless scene, which has been a booming segment of the hobby for the past couple months. Let's take a look at their latest offering the AWESOME Q95!

The Q95 is, as you would guess a 95mm quadcopter. This little racer has a pretty cool frame layout with twin vertical upper plates that surround the FPV camera, and radio receiver. The upper plates are 1mm thick, while the main lower frame plate is 2mm thick. The whole assembly feels quite robust, and has minimal flex. Weight without battery is 50.9 grams on my scale. I am flying it with the same Nano-Tech 300mah 2s batteries that I've been using on my ARFUN 90 and it is quite zippy. To my surprise it is also the quietest brushless micro I have flown yet.

This micro racer is equipped with an Omnibus F3 flight controller, a 600TVL 5.8ghz AIO FPV camera that transmits a surprisingly good image quality. Power is handled by a 4 in 1 BLHeli S 10A DShot ESC, and it has AWESOME 1103 7500kv motors. The quad is available as a Frsky BNF, Flysky BNF, or as a PNP...Continue Reading

Lately, it seems like there are new micro, brushless quadcopters being released almost every day. Many of these new micros are very similar to one another either in terms of hardware, and or appearance. One of the micros to recently hit the market though has a different, and uncommon design. The GB90 has a carbon fiber frame that completely surrounds the motors, and props, much like a Tiny Whoop. This quad also has two of its motors inverted which is something very unique to this particular racing drone. Two motors are installed in the typical manner, and two are mounted upside down. I am anxious to see how well this works, and if there are any noticeable differences in performance, or handling.

This quad comes equipped with an F3 6DOF flight controller, an FX798T AIO FPV camera, 4 LittleBee 12A Opto Pro ESC's, and DYS BE1104 4000kv motors. This set up is designed to run 3 inch props, on 3s batteries. I have a good feeling that this will be an excellent performer. (flight video coming soon)

Because of the way the carbon frame surrounds the props and motors, the quad itself actually has a physical size of about 165mm even though it is classified as a 90mm quad based on the distance diagonally from motor to motor, which is 88mm. The upper and lower carbon plates are 1mm each, and are held together by 9 aluminum stand offs. The fully assembled quad comes in at 80 grams without battery. My test flights will be done with a FuriBee 620mah 3s that weighs 46 grams.

The DYS Elf is one of the latest of the Tiny Whoop style FPV racing quadcopters. One thing that sets the Elf apart from many of the other Tiny Whoops, is that this little 83mm ducted quad is equipped with 10,000kv brushless motors, an F3 flight controller, and a 10A Dshot compatible 4 in 1 ESC.

Click me to purchase.

This quad is available as a Frsky BNF, or as a RTF for only a few dollars more. One very notable feature, is that for those extra few dollars, you get a Frsky computerized radio that can be used to fly other Frsky BNF models. Some have said that they didn't care for the included radio with the RTF version. I find it to be perfectly fine, and while obviously not a full featured radio set, it does what it is supposed to do, and the quad flies very well with it, indoors, and out. The radio actually has some nice features, and is set up with Angle, Horizon, and Acro flight modes assigned to a 3 way switch right out of the box. It also has OSD features programmed to a switch, as well as motor arming, and a switch activated beeper to assist in finding it should you lose sight of it in a crash.

The little racer is very well built, and is fully programmable via BetaFlight. (See Betaflight config in photos) As mentioned earlier it is also equipped with OSD which is a very welcome feature, and is a must for many pilots these days. I also like that the landing legs are well lit with LED lights making LOS flight, and night flying very easy to do.

All in all I...Continue Reading

As many of you here know, I am fortunate enough to get to review a bunch of cool toys. As a sort of pay back to the community for having to deal with my rambling on about RC quadcopters, and trucks etc. I'm going to give one lucky member an SPCMAKER SPC90 90mm Flysky BNF. This is a great little brushed micro, that has 10mm motors, will come in a nice little storage tin, and will include a 500mah 1s battery, spare props, and a charge adapter.

Here is a video of this little guy in action

I recently had so much fun doing a build log of the HobbyMate X130, that I decided to do another build. This time I went with something a bit larger, and will be doing a build of the new Dubai 225 kit. This kit can be purchased here, click me, and is packed with some top quality hardware. Much like the last build, I will break this down into multiple parts, and will update the thread as the build progresses. First things first, let's get everything unboxed and see just what we have here.

Quick test flight shows that all is well Even the tune feels pretty good. I will get it in the air more tomorrow. Full flight video coming soon!

SPCMAKER has been making some really nice micro FPV racers. Their lineup includes brushed, and brushless models in the 90mm class. A couple months ago I took a look at their SPC90X model, which I really enjoyed, so I was pretty confident that I would also like the SPC90 with its 10mm motors, and F3 EVO flight controller. I'm quite happy to report that even on 1s power this little quad is great! It is very stable, and has more power than I was expecting for a 1s micro. This quad can also be flown on 2s simply by changing a bridge on the board, but for backyard flying I have found 1s to be plenty quick, and lots of fun.

Here's a quick overview of the specs. As you can see this quad is available with Frsky, Flysky, or DSM2 receivers, so the majority of pilots have a BNF model available to them. Click me.

Model: SPC90
Wheelbase: 90mm
Material: 3K carbon fiber
Size: 63.5 x 63.5 x 32mm
Frame weight: 6.5g
Takeoff weight: 55g
Motor: 8520 3.7V coreless motor
Flight time: 5 - 6 minutes
Flight controller: F3 EVO brushed 2.0
Processor: STM32F303CCT6
Camera: 600TVL
FPV transmitter: 5.8G 25mW 48CH
Receiver: DSM2 Satellite / FrSky SBUS PPM / FlySky PPM
Battery: 3.7V 500mAh 25C
Propeller length: 55mm

Here are some pics of my SPC90. If you're looking for a well built micro that you can FPV around your house, or yard with, then this little model is definitely worthy of your consideration. Flight video coming shortly so stay tuned. As always, feel free to ask any questions. Happy Flying!

I'd like to give a big thanks to Hobbymate for sending me this X130 brushless quad kit for review. In this blog post I will be doing a complete build log, with set up, configuration, and flight video. I will break this build down into a few different parts, and update with each new part as I progress through the build. As always feel free to ask any questions. Here we go with some pics.

This combo kit includes all the parts necessary to assemble the frame, the PDB, and FC stack, and the pod for the FPV camera. It also includes four HOBBYMATE BLHeli_S 20A ESC's, four HOBBYMATE 1306 3100kv Motors (2 CW & 2 CCW) eight 3 inch props, battery straps, and all necessary hardware. You will need to supply your choice of flight controller, power distribution board, FPV gear, and battery.

The new WLtoys Q393-C is a sleek looking quad, that caught my attention the first time I saw it. I immediately thought that this quad would make a great night flyer with all of its bright lights, and its well lit arms. As it turns out, I was right. It does make a great night flyer. In fact it is all around a great flying quad, with good flight times, and a half decent camera.

I've put a couple packs through the quad so far, and as of now my only real complaint, is that I wish it had a bit more angle in high rates mode. It does well enough to fight some wind, but a bit more forward speed would have been nice. Beginners, and intermediate pilots just stepping into a larger brushed quad, should find this to be a good performer. It has good lift, a stable hover, and the altitude hold actually works pretty well.

What I like the most about this quadcopter though is that it has telemetry that sends flight battery voltage, and flight speed in KM/H back to the radio, and the radio also has a timer that lets you know how long you have been in the air. These are features rarely seen on a quad in this price range, and are very cool to see on a quad costing under $100.

We finally got a break in the crazy winds we have been having so I managed to get a bit of flight video.

KingKong 210GT RTF... The suspense is killing me too!

EDIT 3/25 Ok, so I had some time to get some detailed pics of this beast. Unfortunately it has been raining here since yesterday, so I haven't been able to get it in the air other than a quick hover in the house. Based on what I have seen so far I LOVE this quad! It's well equipped, well laid out, and everything is pretty well set up for you right out of the box. Flight modes are pre-set , arm switch is pre-set, and the stock tune feels pretty good. Of course I'll need to actually fly it to be certain, but I am pretty sure it is going to handle great in completely box stock form. They also include a generous amount of props. There are 10 CW and 10 CCW props in the box, along with a 1300mah 3S lipo, a low voltage alarm, Flysky FS-i6 radio, and an imax B3 AC balance charger. I will be getting some flight video of this with stock props, powered by the stock battery, as well as video with DAL Cyclone props on 3S and 4S power, so as soon as weather permits I will update this post. For now though here is some eye candy.

More info, and flight video coming soon so stay tuned. Feel free to ask any questions. Happy Flying!!

We had about a 20 minute break in the rain this morning, so I was finally able to test this thing out. Here's a short test flight with the DAL Cyclone props.

Check out the new Eachine F14 RatingKing 1/14 4x4 FPV Buggy! Eachine has been making FPV quadcopters for quite a while now, but this new buggy marks their first foray into land based FPV rigs.

My RatingKing just arrived today, and while I haven't gotten much of a chance to do anything with it just yet, I did get a couple pictures to get this mini review started. The first thing I noticed about the buggy is that it has a nice quality look, and feel to it. The second thing that jumped out at me is just how wrong I think they got the scale. They call it 1/14, but if you ask me it is closer to 1/12, and might even be on the large side of the 1/12 scale. Here are a few pics of it next to my 1/14 Tacon Soar buggy. The RatingKing dwarfs it!

Quick test run in the driveway. This buggy is a blast! The FPV gear performs perfectly. The suspension is also tuned very well right out of the box. Even the included action cam delivers a decent picture (video from the onboard cam coming soon)

The new Sinohobby QQ Cartoon Car is a 1/24th scale 4wd micro RC car that comes as a complete RTR package. This package includes the car, a 2.4ghz transmitter, lipo battery, and charger. All for only $42.99 during the current promo sale. There are a bunch of different body options to choose from, in an assortment of colors. I preferred the looks of the cartoon Porsche myself, but check them all out here. Click me.

There are a couple things I really like about this little car. First, there are 3 different speed settings on the transmitter. This means that drivers of different experience levels are able to learn how to drive without being concerned about going too fast, and crashing into things. Second is the run time. This car runs for almost 30 minutes per charge. That's plenty of time to really enjoy driving in between charges.

So far I only have one complaint. At full steering lock when going left, the inside of the front tire rubs on the edge of the servo which will cause the car to spin out in sharp left turns. It looks like it should be an easy fix by simply trimming a little off of the servo tab, or maybe by adjusting the linkage to limit the maximum angle a bit. I haven't looked into fixing it myself just yet because I have been having too much fun running the car around the house. I will share an update on a fix soon.

Running video on the RCP track showing the performance difference between the three different speed settings.

Looks like someone in this house is going to get flying lessons. Can't hardly use battle drones without someone to battle with

Check out the new Cheerson CX-60 Air Dominator Battle Drones! Each package includes 2 smart device controlled drones, with infrared lasers, allowing pilots to have space age dog fights right in the comfort of their own home. Up close look, and flight/battle video coming soon. For more information or to purchase a set of your own click me.

Let's take a closer look at the Cheerson CX-60 Air Dominator Infrared Battle Drones!

When I first saw these little futuristic looking drones I was immediately intrigued. I really liked the idea of cruising around the house, shooting at each other in an effort to defeat my space age enemy. I had one major concern though. Would these be easy enough to control via a smart phone or tablet? I have flown quads via WiFi that were anything but easy to control, so naturally I had my doubts about these.

I am happy to say however, that much to my surprise they're not only responsive and easy to control, but they actually fly very well. Using the sticks mode does take some getting used to, but in gravity mode (using the accelerometer in the smart device for control) they are actually a breeze to fly and the only thing you need to use the sticks for is to set your altitude, and for yaw. Speaking of altitude, another very pleasant surprise is that the altitude hold on these also functions very well. Once you are at your...Continue Reading

FuriBee FX120 120mm Brushless Micro FPV Racing Drone Review

Micro FPV racers are all the rage. Able to be flown in smaller areas than their bigger brothers, but without sacrificing performance. These tiny little machines put amazing speed, and agility right in the palm of your hand.

The new FX120 from FuriBee is no exception, and comes very well equipped with a Flysky FS-i6 in the RTF package or as an ARF ready for your choice of radio system.

Let's take a closer look at this micro racer and see just what it's made of.

I want to point out that in my pictures the quad has GemFan 3030 props on it that I was testing a few settings with. The quad comes stock with two complete sets of 3045 tri-blade props. I also want to mention that in the description on the Gearbest product page it states that a 2s 7.4v lipo is included, when in fact the included battery is a 3s 11.1v 620mah lipo. The battery stated in their description is a typo.

Out of the box the quad is a smooth, stable flyer, and has Angle/Horizon/Acro flight modes pre programmed for you on SWC. Be aware though that unlike many other pre-programmed models the flight modes are reversed. Switch in the upper most position is Acro, in the middle is Horizon, and down is Angle mode.

I found that the stock settings in CleanFlight were a little on the sluggish side for my liking. If you're just stepping into a brushless racer they're probably ok, but I went ahead and bumped the RC Rates up to 0.50 across the...Continue Reading

SPCMAKER has recently released a couple new micro FPV racing drones. The SPC90, and the SPC90X are 90mm quads with 8520 motors, carbon fiber frames, and F3 EVO flight controllers. Click me.
Let's take a closer look at the SPC90X that I recently received.

Model: SPC90X
Configuration: X
Material: 3K carbon fiber
Size: 63.5 x 63.5 x 32mm
Frame weight: 6.5g
Takeoff weight: 55g
Motor: 8520 3.7V coreless motor
Flight time: 5 - 6 minutes
Flight controller: F3 EVO brushed 2.0
Processor: STM32F303CCT6
Camera: 600TVL
FPV transmitter: 5.8G 25mW 48CH
Receiver: DSM2 Satellite / FrSky SBUS PPM / FlySky PPM
Battery: 3.7V 600mAh 25C
Propeller length: 55mm

As you can see from the specs these are available with your choice of DSM2, Frsky, or Flysky receiver, so just about every popular radio is covered.
Upon opening the box, I was pleasantly surprised to see that these arrive in an attractive foam lined tin that not only does an excellent job of protecting the quad during transit, but also makes an excellent case for carrying it in. There's even room inside the tin for extra batteries, spare props, and spare motors. Very nice!

Once you are inside your shiny new tin, you will find your new quadcopter, which I am happy to say is also quite attractive. This little bird has a high quality look, and feel to it. See for yourself. (Pics below)

So far this little drone appears to be one of the nicest brushed micros I have seen. I really, really like my E-90X, and its flight characteristics, so if this flies anything like it I will be a happy camper. Once I get some time, I will get this bound up to my radio and get some flight video so stay tuned. Until then, happy flying!
