Today Synacktiv, a security and research company has released a report on their findings after taking a deep dive into the current and passed DJI Go 4 App on Android.

As part of their investigations they have highlighted some areas that raise some fairly large concerns with the potential behaviour and risk within the Go4 App.

Specially these include the facility to remotely trigger an update to the app outside of the Android Play Store safety net.

Concerns around the Weibo integration with in Go4 that could allow apps to be installed on users devices and issues with the app not closing down correctly or starting to run in the background on its own.

The information and findings of this have been backup and verified by GRIMM.

Further to this DJI have now released a statement as well questioning some of these findings as well as denying others altogether.

Users of the Android version of the app should look at the data for them selves and make up their own mind of what they feel is necessary from a safety and data security point of views.

Gatewick Couple Receives £200,000 Payout.

First of all I want to say how pleased I am this couple both fought this and also received a substantial payout for the frankly talking itís not enough based discussing way they were treated. They were arrested, their home ransacked then interrogated for 36 hours based on the simple fact they lived close to Gatwick and once owned a drone. I am astonished this could happen in the U.K. but it did.

Further to this the incident has now cost the British public £200,000 yet no heads a rolled, we still have no proof there was an actual drone at all or the truth of what happened here. Personally this imo deserves a public enquiry more than many things I have seen in recent years.

The wider issue here is the fall out from this for the drone community in the U.K. Itís left my self and many others wondering if this could be us next. If an incident was to happen close to me would I be a suspect simply based on the fact I own a drone?

As a PFCO and being legitimately registered I have provided the CAA and government a quick and easy target should they need to ďget resultsĒ quickly.

I live close to some high profile oil and gas installation and itís not much of a stretch for me to see something similar take place as we have seen as Gatwick. Regardless of if a drone was actually there or not.

This week ProfiCNC and Hex Aero released the first major update for their Herelink digital FPV system that brings a number of major improvements and features, these include a free custom version of Solex TX.

Digital Long Range FPV Remote System

Herelink is an integrated remote controller, ground station and wireless digital transmission system designed to be used with the Cube Autopilot, Ardupilot or PX4. Herelink allows RC control, HD video and telemetry data to be transmitted upto 20km between the ground station and air unit. This week DJI demonstrated their vision of what Drone To Phone Remote ID may look like inline with whatís being proposed in the USA under the NPRM and that is in legislation in the new EASA EU regulation package.

Solutions For The Drone Age: DJI Drone-To-Phone Broadcast Remote ID (3 min 19 sec)

As part of the NPRM proposals in both Network ID and Broadcast ID and the the EASA EU2019/945 & 947 regulations coming into force in July is the requirement for the pilots location to be shared as part of the the Remote ID data being transmitted.

While itís is not absolutely 100% certain that all the information including the pilot location will be available for all to see the only realistic way to interpret these new rules as proposed and written today is that it will be fully open to anyone with just an app on a regular smart device.

This raises genuine concerns for pilots privacy and safety while out enjoying a hobby with anyone being able to pinpoint a pilots location at any time for good or bad reason. Commercial drone operators have very real concerns especially and these rules may put them at additional risk of landing area incursions and incidents not foreseen in the passed. It could even render single man flight ops a thing of the passed when your unable to secure your operating area sufficiently now itís going to be generally publicised. Last week at CES Autel announced the Evo 2 drone, this new model is going to be available in 3 versions, a Standard model, Pro and Duel.
The Standard Model according to Autel has a 1/2" 48MP 8K resolution HDR camera. The Pro is fitted with a 1" 20MP Variable Aperture and the Duel model has a FLIR Boson coupled to the same sensor as the Standard model.

What is interesting about this release is the Standard model camera appears to be a massive step ahead of pretty much every other drone by a long way yet its cheaper than the Pro model thats got less mega pixel. So while the Autel spec says this is a massive step forward is this the whole truth ? In the video I explore whats really going on and its apparent Autel are using some tricks some of the phone manufactures tried last year.

On the Evo 2 Standard Autel appear to be using the Sony IMX586 Sensor, this is fitted a Quad Bayer Filter and is the reason for this 48MP number for the sensor resolution, however this is not as clear cut as it seems.

The Ardupilot team have announced an update due a critical I2C Storm bug being found in some versions of Ardupilot.

In Copter versions 3.6.10 and Plane 3.9 or earlier thisI2C bug has the possibility to cause an Autopilot to lock up mid flight.

It is advised all users Upgrade Copter to 3.6.12 and Plane users install Plane 4.0 or later.

The Dev team state

Copter-3.6.12 has been released as the official default software for MultiCopters and Helicopters.

For those flying 3.6.10 (or earlier) the upgrade is Critical to avoid possible lockups due to I2C storms. These situations are rare but we have seen enough of them that we strongly recommend upgrading.

For those flying 3.6.11, your vehicle is probably safe but we still recommend upgrading to 3.6.12 because it includes a fix to another rare case of I2C storm lockups caused by extreme interference on the bus. We have one reported case which involved a serial port inadvertently connected to an I2C port.

The upgrade from earlier versions of 3.6.x should be relatively painless with no re-calibrations required unless you see pre-arm checks prompting you to do so.

The two new changes in 3.6.12 are in the ReleaseNotes 6 and copied below.

Fix ChibiOS I2C DMA error
COMPASS_SCALE param to allow manual correction of compass scaling
The second issue allows users to work around a compass scaling issue with the Hex Here2 GPS/compass unit. The Here2 compass unit’s scaling is off by about 17% meaning setting COMPASS_SCALING = 1.17 should improve accuracy. The accuracy can be checked before and after this change by:

fly the vehicle in any mode but ensure the flight includes chaning the vehicle’s heading
download the dataflash log and check the NKF4.SM values which are the compass’s “innovations” (the difference between the expected values and actual values). Lower is better so hopefully Here2 users will see lower values after setting the COMPASS_SCALING value to 1.17.
Note: beta testing of Copter-4.0.0-rc3 will resume next monday (Dec 16th).

DJI have launched a new version of the Ronin called the Ronin-SC

The Ronin-SC is a single handed gimbal for mirrorless cameras that can support models up to 2kg and provides 3 axis stabilised footage whilst on the move.

Being smaller and lighter than the S the Ronin-SC weights just 1.1kg and is specifically designed to be used with mirrorless cameras such as the Panasonic GH5, Sony A7 and A6500 Series among others.

This new smaller Ronin-SC has many of the features that we have already seen on the original Ronin-S however DJI have added a number of new features such as ActiveTrack 3.0 and Force Mobile.

DJI have overhauled the arm design of the Ronin-SC, this means that the arms donít clash in most cases and that it now folds away a lot easier and will fit back into its case even when balanced for most cameras.

DJI OSMO ACTION Overview and Full Review

The original OSMO launched in late 2015 and was DJI’s first move into ground based cameras with it being fitted with a version of the X3. Since then DJI have diversified the line with the OSMO Zoom as well as the Mobile versions for smartphones. In November 2018 DJI released the first major over hall of the line with the OSMO Pocket, this dramatically smaller version was entirely redesigned and improved in almost every way while still keeping the benefits of a stabilised gimbal camera system. Now DJI have released a new model to the OSMO lineup called the OSMO Action.

I have decided to start a thread on the new The DJI ROBOMASTER S1 Educational Robot.

This will be a place where users and owners can post, share info and tips on using this new product from DJI, I will be getting one as soon as I possible can and will be keeping this thread updated with any help, support and relevant information that I can as time goes on.

As this is located on my blog I will be posting any videos I make on it from my channel and moderating this thread my self. The S1 is an educational robot, I welcome everyone to post their own user experiences, build logs, issues, problemss in this thread as you would in any other thread, however any Anti DJI post ,Politics and anything I feel is not in keeping with this being a educational tool and helpful to people will be removed.
