maverick 3-the ultimate
the maverick 3 is basically the same as the previous 2.
when realized that i couldnt find another way to improve its performance by design, i tried to improve its structure.
so the only change is the fuselage, which is now carbon fiber/kevlar.
i found the magellan 2 meters the most suitable. and it is (or was) available at the time.
Magellan-E - ICARUS
The Magellan electric is the continuing effort in development after the popular Carbon D-light and Koleos series of electric gliders from ICARE.They are based on the same moulded carbon D-box technology that made the Carbon D-light so successful. This type of construction results in a very strong, light wing and a very accurate airfoil shape over the leading edge - the most important part of ...

it ended up being stronger, with more room, and more streamlined. and still better performance!
i had to modify it extensively due to that it has a longer tail moment and shorter nose moment. the solution was to move the wing back 30mm. this required substancial changes, but works fine. also the tail is designed for v and mine is t. the end is wide open so i made a fairing to streamline it. but it worked fine.

Broken Mini DLG pro @ the Sink Hole ( After repairs ) (2 min 29 sec)

Yes !

HK Mini DLG pro is back in the air !
Ok , it did need a lot of trimming before I was happy , in fact the battery in the action cam gave out just before I found the sweet spot !

The Mini DLG pro was really stalling out when turned into the breeze .
And I found it hard to put that much down elevator into the model to stop it lifting its nose into the breeze .
I will have to check the angle of attack on that wing , it might be too high !
Especially as the model is not overly sensitive to the elevator . ( Rearward CG )

Still , probably the best hang time for a HK DLG so far for me ! ( It was the only really good Chuck for the day ) except for the last two before going home , they were ok as well . ( Just no cam footage )

So since being back in the hobby and learning some of the new standards like 2.4Ghz radios, I also had to learn about all things involved with electric flight. One of these things was the use of lipo batteries. Some folks have implanted this fear in me that lipos can blow up at what others may feel is a very slight issue. And granted things can happen if they are improperly charged, handled, etc. So, while I charge things carefully, as with anyone, mistakes and incidents can happen. I had 2 incidents with 2 different lipos in my was shorted out briefly and the other had some physical damage in a crash. At first, I feared they would catch fire moments after the incidents occurred, but so far nothing has happened yet. So, I'm going to document this experience and just see if these batteries are still stable enough to use...OR if they do indeed need to be disposed of.

Facing Lipo Fears: Part 1: Shorted out and damaged... Are these batteries safe to use? (7 min 50 sec)

Flew the Astro Jeff in some wind the other day it . May need bigger control surfaces, it’s very sluggish with turns and does not turn tightly will need to fly it more to get a better feel for what needs to be changed.

I found a dozen micro quadcopter drones in a closet. They appear to be between 3 and 6 years old. All ready to fly sets that include the quadcopter, transmitter, accessories and user manual. I decided to get LiPo batteries and have some fun before waste management got them. The oldest drones have imaginative designs and are festive night flyers. I was flabbergasted when I saw an identical quadcopter at Walmart this past weekend. It was selling for $80 on sale ($100 less 20%). I have completely under estimated the value of these things. The future is now.
The eclectic collection includes a quadcopter that uses WiFi and a smart phone instead of a RC transmitter. Two others combine a phone and a transmitter for assisted flight. Luckily the apps were still available to download. There are fast FPV drones which come with 5” monitors and sophisticated looking transmitters. A 220mm wheelbase camera drone can be flown in windy conditions and it has the best range of all. The smallest might be the most recognizable of the group because of the “Tiny Whoop” craze that followed. They're all fun.
