Just saw this in the paper today.

Found this in the parking lot at the flying field this morning. I'm pretty sure it's someone's prosthetic eye.

If you know of anyone that visits the Apollo XI flying field pleas let me know or let them know what I found. I might be a spare that was in a vehicle and the person might not even know it's missing.

Location is the Apollo XI rc flying field just south of the Van Nuys airport. Images of the eye and the approximate area where I found it. It was in the first row of the parking lot, a couple car spaces south of the bleachers.

Accidentally kicked it some how while walking around my vehicle. Went over and picked up the white thing my shoe had touched and determined it to be a prosthetic eye on closer inspection. It blends in really well with the large gravel pavement of the parking lot if the colored side is facing up so I'm guessing it fell out of someone's car or was just too difficult for them to locate once it landed on the ground.

If it's yours, let me know so I can get it back to you. I also left two notes about it on the bulletin boards at the flying field with my info.

Just went there and found out it will be closing at the end of this year. They are still open but boxing up stuff.

Evett's widow has kept the store open for five years by herself. An amazing feat in this hobby business where store front hobby shops are more and more difficult to come by around here. A bit sad to see it go but it's had a very good run that she and Colby should be very proud of.

Colby taught me how to fly when I was little, for which I will always be grateful for. Let us never forget to help newcomers to the hobby as we were once helped ourselves.

Some setups for a 3 position switch that I use for my VTOL models. Posting here together so it's easier for me to find.

3 position switch and a 2 position switch. Three position flap switch and a two position gear switch.

1 channel 6 positions. One channel moves to six different positions from two switches.

They gave me a screen credit so I figured the least I can do is build a plane from the Marvel Universe as my way of saying thanks. The only question now, is which one.

Just discovered the series "Star Treak Continues" on youtube. All I can say as a fan of the original series and TNG is WOW!!!

As with TNG I didn't like it right away. It took be about an episode and a half to get used to the new cast as they have huge shoes to fill. After I got over it and just enjoyed it as it was meant to be enjoyed, man it just hits the spot for someone that is a Star Trek fan. Really well done to say the least. Has me thinking of some Star Trek related builds now.

Looks like they just recently released their last episode. Episode 11 is the one I discovered on Youtube the other day. Really sad to see this version end But they did a great send off Watching all episodes now. Just finished episode 4.

I've seen some Enterprise builds before. Might go for a shuttle craft or Bird-of-Prey.

I like the build quality so far. Can't wait to put it together. Little bigger than the one I built a few years ago.

Motor tilting and flight control movement using the MultiWii (2.4) 180 servo stretching code.

Figured out how to get 180 servo movement in MultiWii 2.4 by adding the following lines of code. We'll see if we can have some fun with that

    }else if(state==2){
state++; // count up the state

I have some Arduino Nano V3 boards from HK that won't stay connected to my computer. Don't know if they are being bricked by windows or not. I have an FTDI basic breakout from Sparkfun for my ProMini so I thought there must be a way to use it with the Nano. Sure enough the below connection diagram works flawlessly every time. No need to hit the rest button on the Arduino. Plug your basic FTDI board from SparkFun into your computer, set the Arduino IDE to Nano board and hit the upload button in the Arduino program.

Es no bueno!
Squirrels only come in light brown around my neighborhood and this thing doesn't look brown to me. With those razor sharp teeth and large black oil filled eyes, it's clear that this is the infamous Chupacabra that I saw today. Looks like it's just waiting to pounce on people that walk under it so I didn't get too close.

Saw the film and really liked the QuadCopter that is in it so I thought it might make for a nice build. Flight controller will be a standard Wii sensor board with arduino Nano that I took out of an old build. Servos and motors are glued right into the foam.

Nice trailer with good reference in it..

With this the last day of 2013 I couldn't help but remember a fellow modeler that passed away this year. Evett of Evett's model shop on Ocean Park boulevard. My first model, an AeroStar 20 with a K&B glow engine was purchased from him along with an AM radio. He was always very help full with any questions that my father and I had for him. He is the one that taught me how to fly. I would go out to the Apollo XI Field at the Sepulveda Basin with my father and Evett would be there ready to teach me how to fly. He was also instrumental in getting the Apollo XI Field at the Sepulveda Basin set aside for model aircraft and helped to maintain it. There is a nice plaque at the field recongnizing his contributions. He is missed but not forgotten.

His shop is still open and run by his wife. Luckily I am still able to go in for supplies and say hello from time to time.
