Continuum V5 joined wing canard glider V5 maiden flight with Mike Frandsen piloting (6 min 2 sec)

At Torrey Pines Fun Fly 2021...

Continuum V5 joined wing canard glider V5 maiden flight with Mike Frandsen piloting

Q-"Continuum V.5" Maiden Flight with Mike Frandsen.

The Q- "Continuum" V.5 High Performance Joined-Wing Canard Slope Glider, as flown by Mike Frandsen.

Mike being interested in the "front-wheel drive" characteristics, stability, and response, seen here putting the glider to the test.

Featuring a laid up Kevlar-Carbon fiber-fiberglass fuselage from a mold of a 3d printed plug based on the original basswood plug.

New modified, bagged main and canard wings, with Kevlar living-hinges for control surfaces. 3D printed wing joiners, canard mount , and wing inserts of carbon infused PETG. Carbon tube wing rods and premium 3D printed PETG canopy, and "endlets", as we call them.

The Original Q- "Continuum"- V.5 High Performance Joined-Wing Canard Slope Glider maiden video.

There's nothing like having a premier pilot taking a design to it's limits.
Thanks Mike...

Just a few pics of the build and finale of the build,..

A Laid up Kevlar-Carbon fiber-fiberglass fuselage of an improved C.A.D. modeled, 3d-printed plug mold, based on the original basswood plug.

Modified, bagged main and canard wings, with Kevlar living-hinges for control surfaces, with proprietary 3D-printed "wing-joiners", control horns, and "endlets", as we call them.

Radical new vertical stab on boom.

Currently flight testing.. with video of the maiden coming...

This all new model has been developed for roughly 2 years with the un-wavering help and support of Mike Frandsen.

Thanks Mike...

Q2 Actual1 (2 min 1 sec)

Thought I would share a 25 year old design finally reaching fruition.

2 meter span.

The plug was meant to be used for multiple glider plan-forms,
and was originally one piece, used for molds for my "Q-Continuum" high performance 60" canard V.1 and V.2.

I then shortened, and cut that plug into 2 pieces, and made the split plates.
At the same time I fashioned a canard from foam core and balsa.

I sandwiched the main cores with obechi 20 years ago.

All the main parts survived 25 years of raising 3 kids!

I started flying other planes at Daves Beach about a year ago, got the "bug" again, and lucky stars provided a meeting with Mike Frandsen.

He MOST thankfully moved the design ahead with his knowledge of molds, and positive energy, and continued support!

The video is a mix of build log and flying.

There will be more of the "Q2-Actual" ( as opposed to "virtual"), and soon, the Original 60" Q-Continuum high performance canard V.3 with the new fuselage.
