Hello good people!

A few months ago I purchased a few E-Flite 480 Brushless motors that came without any X-Mount.

I have searched High and Low and it seems like E-Flite doesn't sell the black metal X- Mounts that come with these motors or at least the smaller "Park" 480's.

Anyway, I went to visit my Orlando, Florida hobby store known as GravesRC and I went to look at their chock full of selections while helpful Mark (at the airplane counter) tried to look for the stock Black Metal X-Mount.

Well, as it turns out, Mark failed to find any separate E-Flite supplied Black Metal X-Mount and was amazed that I found an X-Mount from FMS / RocHobby with Part Number FMMDJ009 that had the identical bolt pattern for my E-Flite Park 480 brushless motor!

I am sharing this just in case some of you run into the same problem.

Pictures!

A follow-up to my previous video, here is a 3S Flight Video of my Eflite UMX Waco Monoplane Golden Age Fantasy #7 “Lorenz Racer”. Thank you Robert for getting the flight footage, and thank you Brad for the custom personalized decals.

Eflite UMX Waco Monoplane Golden Age Fantasy #7 "Lorenz Racer" 3S Performance Flight (4 min 17 sec)

“Just because it hasn’t been built yet, doesn’t mean it can’t be built.”

The UMX Waco Monoplane Golden Age Fantasy #7 “Lorenz Racer”. Named after David Lorenz, the Regional Park it was born and is currently flown in.

Powered by an Eflite 3S 300mAh 30C Lipo with an Eflite BL180 3000KV Motor / Eflite 5x2.75 Prop combo, and additionally cooled with a custom-painted “Ram Air” Spoon Scoop and Hidden Vented Cockpit Exhaust. A Carbon Fiber Flat Spar is embedded in the main wing for rigidity. All of the old carbon fiber connection wire bits have been sanded and painted over to match the scheme. The old connections to the interplane struts and fuselage joiner have been covered with their original plastics which have been sanded so it looks like it was made that way. A UMX Champ S White Prop Spinner and Custom Decals by Brad Lupher finishes the model.

Picked up this from Aloft Hobbies Pretty impressive for the price....
Wing is only 10mm at the thickest, so it requires 8mm servos. The new 6mm KST's would probably be the best choice. I'm using some 9mm Bluebird's. (BMS 115-HV) They fit the supplied servo frames but are just a tiny bit tall for the servo covers.

Some photos for your entertainment . Straight forward easy ARF assembly. Build quality is good for electric but i would think a bit dodgy for engines with the vibrations.
Still waiting for backordered servos and power plant so no flight reports. 50cc Rimfire motor and CC 160 amp ESC will do the prop spinning...Continue Reading

Circumstances have combined to keep me away from the workbench for a few months and my list of tug models waiting to be made has ground to a halt.

Apathy and lethargy have also played a big part – I need to get back in the saddle.

In the meantime, I have been part of a maritime art exhibition in my hometown. I had a series of prints of local boats, lighthouses and beacons/buoys.

The show was a reasonable success and the few prints I managed to sell just about covered the costs. I think that next time round I'll be a picture framer – they charges twice the price of the artwork just to frame it!

Attached is a selection of the prints I had on show. They are all quite large. The buoy print is 1240 x 920mm, The lighthouse: 900 x 600mm, the Liners: 1250 x 600mm, and the tugs: 600 x 400mm.

The liners are the (new Zealand) Union Company's Maunganui at different stages of its life – a troopship in 1915, a liner in 1935, and a hospital ship in 1945. In 1948 it was sold to a Greek company, renamed the Cyrenia, and took immigrants from Greece to Australia for 10 years before being scrapped. The Cyrenia had a black hull and looks a bit dull so those prints didn't make it into the exhibition.

The tugs are one of the current Wellington tugs (Tiaki, a Damen 2411) and the tug it replaced 7 years ago, the Kupe (NZ built in 1971).

The buoy is Moaning Minnie, the one that marks the reef at the entrance to the harbour, and the Pencarrow lighthouse is opposite it on the other side of the harbour entrance.

I had to pull the motor to tighten the prop .
There are two holes either side of the nose , these lead to 1.5mm grub screws
Un tighten them , and pull out the motor . Now you can tighten the prop to the shaft ( By hand should be fine )

Next I had to run up the motor / prop combo for some current figures and check for VIBRATION !
Yes ! Cheap folding props can vibrate .... ( Any prop can )

Current draw peaked @ 5.7A ( 2s )
Vibration was a bit heavy from 75% to 100% throttle / power .
Around 50% power the prop was smooth , but the amount of thrust is ....................

To smooth out the prop I scrapped plastic off the spinner till the assembly smoothed out . ( Those blades are so small I did not want to touch them )

Just need a Rx and battery , then do a bind and go fly ( When our OverLord allows it ! )

Yep Les Amis,

FMS Fox 800 (4 min 41 sec)

I already had the FMS 800 Vtail .. And I really liked the Vtail except for the factory prop .
That factory prop is so bad ( was on the Vtail )

I really wanted a Fox after flying the Vtail .
But as with all things , world wide stocks diminished to the point these little planes got a little expensive to buy
Thanks to banggood , the Fox was on special at the Oz warehouse , and I was able to avoid shipping and extra GST ! ( Thanks BG )
Just got to wait for our local Dictator to ease off on the house arrest BS so I can actually go fly . Suffering RC withdrawal !!!!
Quick doctor , 20cc of RC !!!!
Or perhaps some FMS Fox action ?

Honestly , these planes are so light , easy to put together and not Uber expensive . And best off all they fly really well , being very stable and easy to fly . Be it the Fox or the Vtail , this is one of those planes one should own at least once if not maybe twice . At the very least given some serious consideration .

Ok , yes ! That factory prop bites . Not really a lot of mojo coming from it . Spins fast enough , just without the thrust ( My Vtail ) . So another plane to put on the back burner of things needing to be flown .

S720 = Prop tests ...
LDARC 450x = Needs flying
my X450 and mo2 need flying
The Cub
The DH2
Vtail with new prop
The Fox
Micro F16
Micro Stick with @ 18650
R4 with new rudder

Thats starting to look like a list ! @nd it's all DAG's fault !

Did not know anything about "Kline-Fogleman" airfoils when I created it.
The inspiration behind the paper plane "Seagull" or "Maaken" in Norwegian
came from a paper plane called "Deltry" or something similar.

BTW: It's the only paper plane I know about that are able to loop!

If others ave similar planes please share!

Attached how to fold the Seagull paper plane.

It’s fun to design new planes. Awhile ago, a PS4 video game caught my imagination and I mashed a Sukhoi 35/37 Super Flanker into a Macross YF-30 Chronos.

See https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...-30-Jet-mashup

A friend recently discovered a FA-18 Hornet in an antique mall. The prop jet is made by Direct Connection I may not get it, but it reignited a desire to figure out how to bring a video game jet into the RC world.

Could the ruddervators lay down flat after takeoff when the landing gear is retracted? Could they raise back into position when the landing gear comes back down?

Weight is an issue. The Sailplane crowd uses two small Servos north of the CG to run push/pull cables. That would allow a second set of strong service to tuck into the rear a bit.

It’s fun to imagine.
