Gonna try the same set ups with the shp i did with the katana, flew the shp on 5s and 4s and performance in the slightly larger shp is really good,i'll try the shp on the 3s set up next weekend. Today was the day after the maiden and i flew the shp a little more relaxed and low, still getting use to it but it flys great.. seems like im flying a much larger plane .

Got some flying in today . Was strange flying in only 10mph or so wind.. thought i wasnt in illinois . Spring temps are starting and the flying will be a lot more fun. The 55'' shp maiden felt more like i was flying a plane ive flown for months, got comfortable soon after take off and played around a little, should be more of the same tomorrow if the weather holds . Tomorrow i'll be flying the 55'' shp on the same power set up ive been flying in the katana. The Motrolfly USA DM3625-800... its a very versatile motor and ive been flying it on 3s,4s and 5s and it has good power with those packs but 5s is my favorite . Its in the shp now and i plan on flying all the same pack set ups with it to. Heres some pics and videos from today.. it was a lot of fun to have warm temps and LOW WINDS .

Cold and windy as usual but the sun finally made it through after most the clouds got blown away by the wind . Weather conditions for todays flying.. 15 mph gusting to 20 mph winds and in the low 30s. Flew a couple packs through the kat,4s 3300 pack and 5s 3400 20c and opened up the throttle on the motrolfly DM 3625-800 quite a bit today to . This motor moves really well on the big end and pulls hard on the low end to.. prior flights i flew most of the time at half throttle or less but decided to put the pedal to the medal for a while and this motor rocks . Really pleased with the performance envelope and versatility of packs to power a 55'' plane with this motor .

My 55'' katana has a new power set up,ive been looking into the motrolfly motors a lot lately and had been considering two models to possibly go into the kat. After discussing different options for 3-5s setups with Ben at 3DHobbyShop that would give me a versatile set up for the packs i have i got the motrolfly DM 3625-800,im still considering a 6s set up with the DM 3625-650 in the future but this current set up is really cool in the kat and its wattmetered at 600-1200+ watts(and theres still more props to try) with various packs so its really versatile and can be propped for all my batterys. What i really like about this set up is it flys comfortably on 3s packs and can still fly 3d.. its almost like the katana is a big foamy with this set up . I havent done anything to shave off weight with this set up but you could get a higher power to weight ratio on 3s with a little work.. its at about 150 watts per pound on 3s now .

Some info and pics as well as some videos .

Katana With Out Battery(no spinner) 3lbs 10 oz
2- 3s v2 2200, 4lbs 6 oz
2 -3dhs 4s packs, 4lbs 12oz (original 3dhs 4s packs)
3dhs 5s brick pack 4lbs 11oz (original 5s 3400 20c pack)

I should have it flying next week . Still have to install radio gear and im getting another set of hs 225s for it(didnt want to pull gear from my 55'' katana). I'll have two 55'' 3dhs planes rtf now . I wanted to step up a size and the 55'' planes really rock and dont require really expensive bigger packs so i can fly more than a couple packs each time out with them. Another reason i wanted bigger size planes is flight conditions, bigger flys better and with the windy conditions at times out here i'll get more qaulity flying in. Ive only had a handfull of flights with the 55'' kat but it handled rough winds even better than the 47'' lighter planes and the 55'' planes just have much more presence in the air and down low .

Finally spring weather is here . Windy as usual but its a lot easier to fly when you can feel the sticks. Ive really been rough on the velox lately.. letting it drop out of harriers onto cement, ripping around full throttle into spins and walls etc,3DHobbyShop planes take a beating and keep flying, finally something had to give.. not a design issue but a pilot that used some cheap old ca,pulled out the elevator control horn and touched down in the weeds but the velox was fine . Ca and epoxys have failed me before, usually do to the drastic changes in temps.. i fly in the winter and its hell on covering and on adhesives etc. The velox will be flying during the week probally, using elmers ultimate on control horns now,its had the best overall longevity with a little flexability and a strong bond that doesnt get brittle and crack in the cold. Its really nice to get some flying in without all the cold.. after flying its time for bbq.. what better way to end a fun day of flying .

The weather out here is starting to look up finally and my rc fleet is moving forward some more . After doing this a couple years i recently took the plunge into larger planes.. not 40% or anything but 55'' electrics,i just got my second one tonight and it should be flight ready in a couple weeks. Along with 3D planes i started flying the helis off and on shortly after learning to fly planes, there a lot of fun and i recently moved up in size with them to.. trex 600 . Like the past two years i plan to fly harder and learn more.. hopefully fly more than once a week to like i normally do and do some more ap and video along with learning more 3D with planes and becoming a better overall pilot.

A couple pics of my bigger birds for this year .
