I've been into the RC hobby since I was a child and really started with serious planes and all that right around the end of middleschool in 2009. I picked up an Eflite MCX with my own money and got a Blade CP+ for Christmas. This was with the assumption that I'd definitely be getting directly into helicopters. That was wishful thinking! I wouldn't wish a Blade CP+ on my worst enemy! I could probably fly one now, but it wouldn't be any fun. The MCX was fun for kid me though. Very easy to fly and cruise around the house with. And I suppose it taught me the basic flight controls and how important good throttle control is. That spring I picked up a Parkzone ember2 bnf and spent countless hours flying it around the yard with the radio and battery the MCX came with. Then later that summer I picked up Phoenix RC sim and a Hobbyzone Supercub and the rest is history. Anyways. Just about none of my beginner and even intermediate kit retained any value or served me any purpose after a couple years. The planes were fine. But the MLP4DSM went to the landfill, the DX5e went to the landfill, the original chargers went to the landfill. I went through a lot of disposable equipment in the beginning and it would have been nice to have the perspective not to do that. Even the stuff I could pass on wasn't worth anything anymore! Like my DX8 for instance. 350 dollar radio worth nothing now.

So, if you had a beginner show up at your club wondering how to get started, how would you help them?...Continue Reading

As told by the 14SG:
So I decided to give myself a nonissue problem to solve. What is the lowest and highest PWM pulse that the Futaba system outputs? I need to know because I want to compare the Dynamic range of FASST with the dynamic range of CRSF. CRSF has known published values:
885us - 2115us
My fleet is basically transitioned to using Express LRS now and in full res packet mode those are the minimum and maximum PWM pulses that can be output.

But how does FASST compare? I'm essentially wondering if the 1:1 linkage ratio I'm using on a recent ELRS foamie build with 3D printed control and servo horns will yield the same throws with a FASST system, because I'm building a foamie for a friend with a same linkage system and he uses FASST. I'd like equivalent throw, or very close at least. So just a thought exercise I can't help but figure out.

Did a good 30 minutes of googling trying to find this answer but couldnt.

I suppose I can extrapolate by scaling the 100 - 100 values from Futaba.
1100 - 1940, 1520 center pulse.
The 14SG radio offers extended limits to 140% in either direction with further extents to 155%. These further extends don't quite count for stick travel dynamic range because you can't use any of it with your stick travel. It's basically to allow for a little extra servo throw so that you get symmetrical dynamic range with maximum limits and max trim in either direction. Or maybe not max trim but a lot of trim.

It's well known that Futaba...Continue Reading
