I started a plane called the jump racer . I do not remember how i found it but it is part of a program from the German version of AMA.
Plans are available here: https://www.jump-dmfv.aero/downloads/

A thread about this plane is here ( google can be used to translate the entire web site) : https://www.rc-network.de/threads/dm...deos.11984736/

The information about the plans construction and plans can also be found in Midell Flieger Magazine , issues 07-2023, 10-2023 and 01-2024. There are preview pages where you can browse for free part of the articles. https://www.modellflieger-magazin.de...3c7f9/editions

I do not think I am the only one working on more than one project at the same time, this is my third project that started without finishing the others.

I was looking for a plane that I can bring with me on vacation and I think this is just perfect. Plus it is made of balsa and foam.

It is also a challenge because the foam in the design is 3mm Depron and I want to use a 4.5mm dollar store ( without paper). Additionally, I have to adjust the balsa part to 4.5mm and the is not 4.5mm balsa available so my scratch-building skills will the working.

I always liked this model but i did not want to build it because I have never built balsa before and it has many but many balsa parts. I am used to have few foam parts and fly.

Now that I have a few planes of experience I gave it a try. Originally, I wanted to build it all in foam but I end up just making the wing in foam. I had also to make several adjustment because balsa size in the plans are in mm and i was difficult to find that size in my local Hobby Lobby. I prefer to buy materials there.

I have reused the fuselage of the Savage Bobber and give it a last chance to fly as I wanted. I took the fuselage from the trash can "literally" redo the nose that was broken and build a new set of wings from the dollar store ( without paper).

After some adjustments on the angle of the motor, it flew amazing, as I originally wanted, excluding the flaps because it does not have them.

I also have my first charge trying to make a loop, the wings bent over because i did not put any reinforcement. After that, some reinforced tape on the leading edge and a 3mm fiberglass rod on the wing, and it was new and even better than before.

I will upload some pictures and videos later.

This is my second Savage Bobber, I have learned many things from my first one and think I will continue learning. There were many discussions about the size of the control surfaces and the size of the plane, that was the first thing I changed also the tale is longer.

Actually, I just used the same length and control surfaces as the Bushtroteel from Thomas Buchwald.
Here link: https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...-download-plan

Also have some inspiration from a small Bobber made in Japan:
here link: http://maruiwaaviation.web.fc2.com/O...ageBobber.html

The structure was made on 1/8 and 1/8x1/4 basswood. Sides 3/32 basswood and balsa.
The tale control surfaces were made usin 6mm foam and the covering was a mix of packing take and regular covering from Willy Nilles.

Wing was made using Armin foam wing construction method with Dollar Tree foam without a paper and 1/8 sound CF spar.

Wing span 960mm (37.7in)
Wing cord=150mm ( 5.9in) about 10 mm shorter than the previous one)
Weight 400gram with out battery ( about 50 grams heavier than the previous one).
( This time a used a standard airfoil instead of a KFM airfoil, I want to see what makes it different.)
wing has flaps
Motor= Suppo 2208/12 1800kv
Battery= lipo 800mah 3S

It has not been maiden yet, I hope I can have some nice video to post later....Continue Reading

El Lajban from Bo Gardstad

I found this plan in aerofred. It is a very popular trainner plane in Sweden. Mr Gardstad passed this year in July 2021. Here web site with all this work. http://www.gardstad.se/. He has several other desing but plans need to be purchased and they only send paper copies. I will try to build more designs from him.

-2002-6

Wing: 39in ( measured with polyhedral, the extended length in the plans is 44in)
Lenght: 33.5
weight: 532grams ( heavier that the design due to materials used)
Motor: A2212/10T 1400kv ( ebay)
ESC: 20amps
Batteries: i use 3S 1500 mAh and 3S 850mAh, i have between 20 to 25 minutes of flight time.
Servos: 2x 9grams

Materials: poplar wood from home depot, foam board without paper, playwood from Hobby lobby .

Wing Polyhedral angle: 17 degrees. (this information was provided by Swedish vendor that sells the plans and is not included in the Aerofred plans)

I have installed and old iphone (127grams) to record video , camera is too big and heavy but i was able to records some video clips...the first attempt end up in crash. Plane is very strong strong and i just broke a propeller. However in a earlier crash i bent a shaft of the motor so i had to replace it but damage to the wood structure.

I am currently looking for a small camera.

Finally i was able to fly my Savage Bobber today. It has been a plane that i wanted to builf for a very long time. It stated to research for plans, there was none until in found a Faceb00k group that has development based on the few sketchs available in the internet.
The original plans call for a 1.2 meters plane but i just reduced the size for a 960mm wing span.

-Maiden flight= I put too much rated on aileron and friend helping me to trim it could not control it and crashed. See photo.
-2nd maiden= I incorrectly tried to trim it on taxing onthe ground, i added too much lef trim and crashed, see video.
-3rd test= I added to much down trim to the motor , plus i did not align in newtral position the elevator , it had like 6mm down trust. Eventually fly but when i test it , it was too much wind and turbulence and crased for the third time.
-4rth test= Finally fixed again and ajust the horizontal stab. It was late afternoon , a storm was forecast but i had a little window of low wind. It flies.......i just ned to improve among many other things... my landing.

It it a fast plane for my skill , i will try to reduce speed by moving from 3s to 2s and use another prop.

The structure was made on 1/8 basswood.
Wing span 960mm
weight 350gram with out battery
chord 160mm
Airfoil KFM 2 using MPF foam 6mm
wing has flaps
Motor= suppo 2208/12 1800kv
Battery= lipo 800mah 3S

Finally compleated the mini Frog. The receiver (Mx-RX62H)brick detached after first day of maiden , when i was regluing it , glue got into the gear and the servos do not work anymore. I had a replacement ( a receiver from a Blade heli mxc2) , i did not i neded to disable the gyro, so after looking for help (thread)in the forum i was able to do it. I have not done any flight with the new brick yet.

This is my new built a modified 40% Slowly V2. The previous was fun but motor did not like to many crashes so i build a modified version training inspired by the Micron wings Student Flyer.

Wings and landing gear were reused from previous Slowly. I added some CF reinforcement at the front . I used dollar tree foams and plate foam.

Here a video:

Here my first mini rc plane . It is my favorite Slowly V2.
I started with a 40% so I can use some E7 mootors.

My son is the pilot, i had few chances to fly it mtself . He likes loops . I prefer some slow flight , easy to build and using dollar tree foam available.

This is a real fun plane, but as a trainer is not the best , we had a shaft bended , can fly but i am currently looking for another 30grams plane with protected motor.

I have some trouble trimming my last plane and i keep crashing. I was trying my son to enjoy too but crashing is not fun . So i was looking for a pusher easy to build and hopefully easy to trim and fly.

I found The Frog from Daniel J. Schwartz, the kit is no longer in the market. I wanted to try a technique of using soild foam body in stead of layer like this design. Page 52 post #780 has the latest design (2011)

The Frog with an 8y old pilot (8 min 33 sec)

I found 1/2in pink foam at home depot . I had to buy a foam cutter, it is not difficult but you need to time to get use to the tools. I wanted to build a foam cutting table soon.

My goal is to have a compleate plane with all electronics at less of equal than 200 grams (7oz), so could use a 20gram motor that is have availlable. I read in some thread that your motor weight should be around 10% of the weight of the plane. The design ask for a weight of 200g to 255g (7oz to 9oz).

Update: final weight after a reinforced wing= 211grams.

Body=41 grams
Tale controls (with foam) 7 grams)
wings=23 grams

White foam is from Dollar tree store (5mm without paper)

Here some pictured of my pink version....The green one is form the designer.

Total weight so far about 71grams (2.5oz).

Finally starting my Jupiter Duck after 3 year i saw for the first time. Materials arrived today and they weight about 69grams. The come from Hoosier Coutout Service. I also ordered a Slowly V2 36in. My son ( 8 year ) wanted to Duck i started with that .

Some of the question i need to answer, i just put it in a list so i remember:
-Aprox final weight (without electronics)
-What motor should i use if i do not have a weight. I will still go with the recomendations from the designer or something clos.
-Where to buy the electronics in a kit or combo, motor/esc/servos/batery. I am new on RC and prefer to learn how to solder on other plane.
-What paint to use that do not affet weght too much...i want orange and yellow...but i need to defind that before start learning.
-Define best way to have a removable wing , i want to have access to electronics.
-Define if battery needs to go in a lower position. if so i need to redo the plans.

It will be fun.
