In case it is of interest to anyone having a hard time finding decent pilot figures these figures are from Dave Banks Model Pilots. These ones are 1/10th WW1 for the strutter.

What happens when too much heat is applied to polyspan

the heat gun did a great job of sorting out the few bags I was having trouble ironing out in a wing panel. Then I got a bit enthusiastic and just did a bit too much.

Have now stripped off the panel and will start again (with a bit more caution)

getting harder and slower now - steaming experiment ahead of doing some of the decking and wire bending pics below

Hello everyone, Does anyone have a good trick to stop the lid of the CA gluing itself to the tube. Tried wiping it, but just got stuff stuck to it!!

1st wing panel under construction minus root rib. - ply cutting progressing OK too. Trailing edge wood seems a bit too soft and might need beefing up.

advice from peter rake as to method as follows

'Personally I've never found root rib guides to work particularly well - even when they are cut at the correct angle. I find it much better to leave out the root rib until you have finished wing panels, then pack up the tip the required amount and use a set-square to set up the root rib. Set-square, angle iron, whatever, as long as it results in an upright rib.
Anyway, as long as you end up with roughly 2.4 - 2.5 degrees of dihedral it'll be fine. '

And re the wings being slightly different lengths and setting them using 3/4" packing under the wing tips
"Even using a common guide for both upper and lower wing roots there won't be enough difference to worry about. "

Litespan 30g per sq m (all others are weighted to in g per sq metre.)*
Polyester supershrink gloss 60-80g (as on Blackburn models)
Polyester supershrink matt 60-75g
Profilm/Oracover - haven't been able to find a weight for this
Solarfilm 55-60g
Solar tex 85-98g
Solite 20g.**

*requires balsaloc adhesive.

Having a crack at building this. Haven't built for an age, so hoping it will turn out OK and with 2 pairs of wings and not 4 for one side (oh well, if that happens I'll just have to do another one! Slightly confused at first having cut out the ribs and realising there appeared to be no top spars Thanks JIMA and others for putting me right on this. Incidently weighed the paper templates that I peeled off the parts after cutting them - a little over 6g so far and some like fus.sides still have template on. Have had a few snags sourcing bass wood, but that should be resolved now - seems to be used by lots of crafters and makers of dolls houses.

Whilst waiting for this - am making model park/playground with daughter who is eagerly gluing scraps and cutting them up with the razor saw!-off topic so no separate build log for this!
