I have now opened a new web site to sell my plans, don't think I will be becoming a millionaire any time soon but it keeps me busy and out of mischief in my retirement

Please take a look and register for my newsletter which I will be sending out from time to time to keep you all up to speed with my mew creations.

Sorting out my shed the other day on the very top shelf at the back, I came accross my Super Chipmunk that I build from a kit many many moons ago (about 25 years or more)

It was pretty dirty and messy with oil from the glow motor (a OS . FS40 4 stroke motor) ... the motor is fairly seized and probably never fly again

SO ... I thought I would convert this beautiful model to electric.

After stripping all the old shrink film off, I found the balsa to be in amazing condition and I was pleasantly surprised at the weight of the total frame (without motor) of just under 1100 grams, with the motor and battery etc etc I estimate it to be somewhere in the region of 1700 grams

I have now started re-covering and here are a couple of pics

Maiden went off without a hitch, I had a couple of flights and then decided to move the G of G back a little so I moved the battery towards the back about ˝” which moved the C of G about the same .. I started at 33% and now it is at about 40% from the front of the wing … the wing chord measures 165mm (with a balsa leading edge) and I now have the C of G set at 65mm from the leading edge

It would not do a loop (even with full rates) after I moved the C of G back it did a nice loop on full rates, roll wasn’t too bad, about the same as the Polaris (never tried it on full rates)

Video was taken with my NEW #16 cam on my hat, (hadn’t changed the date … have now) it isn’t too bad but would have liked to have done some low slow passes but was pretty nervous so didn’t attempt this on the first flight, maybe another day.

Next, I decided to combine the 2 … Polaris and Aqua Cat and this was the result … as you see, I added my cockpit mod and a motor cowl

So was born my ... "Polar Cat" AND it flies absolutely great

I love the way it flies but after a little “plop” on its nose I decided to do some little mods to the cockpit area
