I finally built the B2 model I picked up at the GWS moving sale and successfully flew it yesterday. Here's the build thread with how I did it

Those of you that missed it please don't jump off that freeway bridge. It finished yesterday and ran for about 3 weeks. I was fortunate in that a club mate works there part time. So he announced it at our club blog and at prices on most of their kits of any where from 70 to 90 % off, I made a glutton of myself.
All the sale kits were white un-powered EPS foam and for us locals ( the warehouse is in Upland about 5 mi. from me)there were 4 pallets stacked 6 ft. high of incomplete kits for $5. ea.
Those I really took advantage of , what the hey GWS u poor , foam safe contact cement is worth $5. a tube. And although the warehouse'es plan was to sell them sight un-seen because of my bud they let me open the boxes and pick the most complete kits. YEE HAW It was Xmas in June and July. So all together in 3 separate trips to the Land of Zanadu I figure I ended up with 38 kits. Not all of them for me mind you. I hope my wife never reads this but I got them for a measly $365. Less than $10 ea.
They were also closing out a RTF 64mm EDF jet called a Fox Hawk that was manufactured almost 10 years ago so its motor is a 4300 Kv inrunner powered with a 1800 ma 3s 16 c li po. It originally was priced at about $200. they were selling them for $25. So I got 3 of them. One for a friend and the one I'm currently flying I burnt up the motor on 4 s so I swapped it out for a 4000Kv out runner and a EDO 5 blade fan and now it flys decently.
How was I blessed you ask , Let me count the...Continue Reading

Yorba Linda Park on La Palma in same city.

I know I couldn't believe it either.

One of my grown up sons lives close by it in a small condo. So for big get togethers he has us meet in the park.
This past Saturday he threw a Fathers Day brunch there and this time I asked a ranger and they have no restrictions or rules against the safe flying of Electric aircraft although he said they are not " Drone Friendly"

2 Easters ago I flew a small quad, and a U M Stryker there. And its a bit chancy because there are many trees. But this time I took a Infinity 3 Der and asked the gate keeper and a ranger and was told Have Fun Be safe,

The real sweet spot for flying is behind the park over the Santa Anna River. Where there is also a 2 lane smooth black top bike lane. Which is only about 12 ft wide but stretches 20 some miles to Huntington beach.
I was told the Park has no jurisdiction about the use of the river and aside from a moderately steep concrete bank it looks like a great float plane site .
Heres my story of it and a hat cam video of me flying there.

Introduction

Ive been fascinated by the B 2 since getting into Electric R /C about 16 years ago. I have built many profile examples starting with GPWs sorta scale one to the extreme of carving an 8 foot w. s. full fuse model from Insulboard foam.
When Banana Hobby came out with a Blitz R/C scale EDF version I drooled over the super scale looks of it and almost purchased an airframe at one time.
Since learning slope soaring and becoming an advocate of that R /C skill a scale B 2 slope glider has been on my bucket list for some time.
Im not getting any younger.

So while I still have this burning ambition Im pursuing it to completion.

Im going to fly it with a 3 axis gyro Rx. The real B 2 has over 100 computers that help the pilot fly it so a gyro Rx is kind of a non brainer.
Im not going to clutter or un scale it with vertical stabilizers or fins. To maintain stability in the yaw axis Im going to use what glider guys call "CROW " on each wing controlled by the gyro Rx and the rudder input.
To do this I'll have 2 elevons on each wing , an outer one and an inner one. They will activate one up wards and one downwards to make each wing draggier independent of the other to cause the aircraft to rudder turn towards the wing with more drag.
Sounds good on paper huh.

My building materials will be 1/2 inch insulfoam, balsa , dowels, Readi Board foam and pool noodles . The pool noodles will simplify the building of the fuse and engine nacelles.
The w. s. is 80 inches and Im hoping to meet a 3 pound A.U.W.
