The stock landing gear is good for rough ground or sand/snow/mud as the large tires provide added floatation and little rolling resistance. Once in the air though the large frontal area provide drag. The wire gear sags and gives negative camber when on the ground. You can bend the axles down for positive camber but now she looks like Cessna Birdog! because the axles are approximately .75 inches aft of the leading edge the tail wheel has less weight compared to axles that are in front of the leading edge. This and rolling resistance can cause nose overs while landing and decelerating on certain surface conditions. Prop strikes and fin damage can result that might end further flying for the day. Here is an alternative landing gear system that reduces the above negative aspects. Like any modification be careful and responsible when operating and proceed at your own risk.

I chose the #132 Robart Scale Diamond Tread 2.75 inch tires because of their low bounce properties and looks. The landing gear is the Dubro Super Strength .35-.61 size. Dubro Axle Shafts 5/32 are bolted to the injected molded gear after drilling out a 5/16 inch hole. There is a pilot dimple on the gear but there is room for a different hole for a slightly lower axle location.

The Maule has sufficient foam in front of the stock plastic landing gear parts. Plywood that is 1/4 inch thick by 3 5/8 wide by 2 inch long is used with 3/32 inch thick plywood longerons to carry the stresses to...Continue Reading

Free Flight SU-27 found on Feebay ..
With discount , cost around $5 USD or less .

Wow ! Came fully bent in the post ( see pictures ) ..

But it was an opportunity to test some ideas I had .
Got out the old clothing iron , bumped the temp to 80deg C and proceeded to iron out the wrinkles .
Nope , not doing a good job !
Bumped the temp to about 120deg C and I was just starting to melt the foam ..
At just over 90deg C the iron was doing a half decent job .
I had 2 layers of house hold paper between the foam and the iron at all times .

But there was a lot of bent to go around .
The motor had got bent as well and would not straighten out .
So I had to cyno it reasonably straight .

Assembling !

So the parts have these little tabs that get pushed thru holes .
The foam is SOFT , I mean soft .
Best to use needle nose pliers , very carefully push the pliers into the hole and just barely thru ..
Grab hold the TAB , and pull it thru ..
Much easier than trying to push the tabs thru the very small tight holes .

Once assembled .. Its not overly bad !
CG looks to be about right , and you just need to tweak the control surfaces for a decent glide .
It's windy outside , so the SU 27 glides like a tissue ..
Really need some UBER low wind ( no wind ) or possibly a decent indoor space .

Hello all,
I wanted to share a video of the maiden flights on the Imperial Knight Twister built and flown by William C. Nichols of Grove City, Ohio. The Knight twister biplane has a special part of history for Ohio. Don Fairbank's was from Cincinnati, Ohio and the full scale version of this plane is on display at Sporty's Pilot Shop located in Batavia , Ohio. Furthermore, for Bill Nichols, growing up in New Philadelphia, Ohio he would often see another version of the Knight Twister being flown by Tony Sabler.

In the early 2000's he built a 1/2A version of the Imperial Knight Twister, this is powered by a Norvel .074 motor and flies great! Always wanting to build a larger version it happened to be fate, when a plan, cowl, wheel pants, and the long discontinued Magna-lite material the original construction article called for was found at a swap meet in Washington Courthouse, Ohio. It was without delay that this was purchased. It took Mr. Nichols approx 2 years off and on to complete the Knight Twister and after going on a two show model tour and taking "Best of Show" at both events, the biplane was taken up for a maiden earlier this week. The model won "Best of Show" in 2018 at the Westerville Model Swap Shop/Show and at the Lancaster Model Swap Shop/Show both located in Ohio.

Below is a video of the models maiden flights, the aircraft flies great, was balanced perfectly and only required a few clicks of down trim.

The model is of 1/3 scale and...Continue Reading

Hi guys and gals
So far everything seems to be working on the software however when I disconnect led and try to startup (in att mode) using one of four csc commands I get a double yellow blink then 3 red blinks and if I continue holding command led blinks green three times only once, then back to yellow and red blinks? Is this normal?
Also I noticed when I was calibrating sticks the elevator bar moved to -1000 but only 987 the other way after calibration would this effect csc commands starting motors? I bypassed MC to make sure my esc were working , when I connected to throttle channel on rx they all worked fine? Please help

The default serial speed of my HC-05 is 9600 baud which was fast for serial communications in 1975, but I decided to increase it to 57600. The module is connected to S5, so I needed to set the SERIAL5_BAUD to 57. This can be done in various ways, depending on your Ardupilot ground station software.

To change the serial speed on the BT module it is necessary to use a USB/TTL adapter to set the device in "AT" mode which on my module is achieved by holding down a button switch while powering on. In this mode the default speed is set to 38400 baud, so I configured the communication speed on the terminal software to match.

Using the terminal software (Serial USB Terminal on Android phone), I connected to the USB/Serial converter:

After disconnecting and rebooting, I was able to connect to the ground station at a much faster speed via BT
