I
finally flew my repaired E-flite P47 'Jug' today. Stock with 2-blade prop.
Fun plane, but man! I am rusty. I have not flown anything significant in a
while. Also have not flown the Jug since 2016 (wow)
So, I originally suspected my Spectrum DX6i malfunctioned when i crashed the Jug during Memorial Day 2016. Nope.
Rather,
it was my fault! So i cannot blame Spectrum. The radio worked fine.
I
see now why-- it looks like
the Elevator was not trimmed properly causing the Jug to dive slightly when i let go of the sticks. What a n00b mistake i made
I remember that day:
I was tired from work. There was a hill on the left i somehow forgot about. Oh! I was flying low and fast toward the hill
I clearly remember the plane seemingly wanting to dive before i could pull up. I must have had the elevator near neutral before the wreck. This would cause the inadvertant dive--because the Elevator needed to be trimmed.
Lesson: Trim plane properly before performing low maneuvers.
Lesson: If you're tired be ready to crash.
Lesson: Note hills.
I will post the video--the actual crash was somehow missed
but basically the plane pancaked in and tore the front cowl area off
It was a clean break, ripping the motor leads from the ESC. There were addituonal tears in the wings but easy fixes.
All it cost me was a new 2200 LiPo and plastic Cowling. A bit of glue and tape and she was ready to fly.
Sure did take me a while too! I kept leaving things until recently. I bought a new tote for my gear and made a list on my phone. So now i won't leave important things like batteries or the radio...
My E-flite Jug is flying great now. Not a
fast plane stock but quick enough to enjoy. She can come in nice with flaps and is capable of some interesting aerobatics.
The Jug is an easy warbird to fly... but you do have to keep
some speed compared to a Cub or she will stall. Later i plan to make her faster.
