Meyers OTW: Allen Meyers began designing his light biplane in 1930 in his garage in Wayne Michigan. With his plans underway, in 1933 he secured a space in an old machine shop to get things really going. In 1936 the first OTW (Out To Win) biplane made its first flight.

The OTW was somewhat unique in construction for its size. While most two seat biplanes of the time had steel tube fuselages covered with fabric, the OTW had a semi-monocoque all aluminum fuselage. It seated two in tandem and was initially powered by a 125hp Warner. (Later production models were mostly powered by either 145hp Warners or 160hp Kinners) The wings were of a more standard wood and fabric construction.

In 1938 the OTW got official approval for use in the Civilian Pilot Training Program. (CPTP) The CPTP was intended to use civilian flight schools to train as many college students to fly as possible with the knowledge that many of them would eventually become military pilots if the US entered the war. The OTW was approved for this alongside the Ryan PT-22 and Waco UPF-7. Between 1938 and 1940 the CPTP used all three along with many Cubs, Aeroncas and Taylorcrafts to teach thousands of new pilots.

While the OTW never got an official military contract once the war did start, they managed to sell over 100 of them to various schools that were participating in the CPTP. This jump started the Meyers Aircraft Company which survived well after the war building civilian airplanes.

2nd trip to the field and 3rd flight .

Hmmm !

Expert mode is lethargic ! ( Aileron )
The S 2 is under powered for anything exciting .
What it does do really well , is fly SLOW - real slow ! Were talking sexy slow ! I think you could walk faster than the S 2's slow capability .
Intermediate mode is ?? ...
Seems out of place , Int is a wilder ride than expert mode ,,, What's with that ?
I would like for the S 2 to at least roll , and not into the ground !
That TT looks brilliant in comparison .
Got a serious ITCH for the S2 ? = Buy the Turbo Timber ( UMX ) instead .
I would lose no sleep if the S 2 was phased out of production .
In fact , I would love to see a Super Turbo Timber . ( Better than 1:1 power to weight )

got me this one in a week ago and have had a lot of fun with it AND it's not even the kind of quad I generally like most..
So a mark / indoors FPV quad with propguards from Diatone..

Rearwin 6000M Speedster: The Rearwin Airplane company began to falter at the beginning of the depression and Rae Rearwin negotiated control from his investors and started Rearwin Aircraft. The intended first offering of Rearwin Aircraft wound up being the third airplane to make it to production when it’s development took a lot of work.

The Rearwin Speedster started life powered by a Cirrus engine. Initial testing for certification found the airplane didn’t meet spin recovery standards. Between 1934 and 1938 the airplane received several changes in search of the solution. The ailerons were redesigned to reduce the gap between them and the wing. The tail feathers were enlarged and centering springs were added to the rudder. All of the control systems also received ball bearings.

By the time the Speedster was ready for production, the Cirrus engine was out of production so the Menasco C-4 was chosen to replace it. The 6000M was the final production variant of the airplane. It had a cramped cabin for two in tandem inside it’s very narrow fuselage. It had a very distinct tough looking landing gear and large tail feathers. In general the Speedster was a very unique looking ship.

At the same time as the Speedster, Rearwin was producing the Cloudster and the Sportster. They seemed to overshadow the Speedster leaving it with a final production run of only 11 aircraft. I put a stripped Gopro Hero 7 black on my Nanolongrange V2b design (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4818009). I was not sure if it will fly as it got pretty heavy at 131g. Still It worked out and now I'm pretty stoked. I think I can make it even 15g lighter. So stay tuned!

I started my jointer project. It was a mess this picture was taken after taking a coarse sharpening stone to the top for a good hour. It had a layer of rust on it that was beginning to pit the surface.

I could have opted to build a fixture and have the in and ot feed tables ground but I don't think it was worth the time and expense.

I ordered new knives and bearings for it.

Someone had been in it for bearings some time in it's past and was a bit brutal to it with a hammer. It had a couple of hickies on the cutter head from the attack.

The shaft was galled up a bit as well. Some file work restored it to functionality.

There are a zillion conversions out there for this type of chuck glider.

This conversion is intended for indoor flying and is based on a glider costing around $2 to $3 plus the various 1S components. I bought four gliders but they arrived badly bent. - you can see how I restored them here:

The motor is a cheap 8020 with a DSM2 servo-less brick and three nano servoes from BG in this case. The battery is 1S 205mAH DE and came from Micro Motor Warehouse.

There are control surface outlines in the foam but these are not large enough so I pushed the ailerons out to the start of the wing tip up curve and made the elevator full width and all slightly deeper. The elevator halves are connected by a carbon rod but anything stiff enough will do. The elevator control rod needs to be as light as possible however for the aircraft to balance perfectly with the battery full forward. The hinging is Blenderm but other tapes will work. The foam in this case is CA compatible. The wing saddle has a bamboo stick locator at the back and is held down at the front by the canopy.

Maiden flights OK in a light wind.

I set up all the flight surfaces as straight and level as I could .
Battery is a Nanotech 260mAh 1s , it's simply a press fit into the battery bay / slot .
CG did seem to be good .
The S 2 did balloon quite a bit , and to not hang off the prop I needed a fair amount of down elevator .
That really slow flight , the S 2 is hanging off the prop some what .
I came home and made a adjustment to the elevator ( down trim ) . The more power I gave , the more it climbed .

Beginner Mode - Wow , can still turn tight . very smooth and my only complaint is the ballooning .
Intermediate mode - Far more responsive , maybe too much so . Really took me by surprise . For a moment I thought I had entered expert mode .
Expert Mode - Seemed a little lethargic to me .

Really going to have to trim out that ballooning .
Power - yeah , needs more power ! Just , under powered .

As a beginner plane . I can see that . Just needs more power so as to grow with the pilot .

Hmmm , Does it offer anything that the UMX Turbo Timber does not ?
Since I own both , I think the TT is the better choice . The size difference is marginal . Where you can fly is pretty much the same . Price ? Rather close .
If you think the TT is too expensive , then give up a few Beers or cigarettes or both and put that money into the TT .
So after adjusting the elevator , I need a 2nd maiden . Be nice to see what the S 2 can...Continue Reading

To Check = adb shell getprop persist.sys.d2d.tx.pwr.cfg

By default it contains
23,20,20,20

These are for the region config, the max supported by herelink is 28db ~ 600mw,
to set it you would go

adb shell setprop persist.sys.d2d.tx.pwr.cfg 28,28,28,28

This would need to be done on both gcs and air unit for both sides

Butler Blackhawk: Butler Manufacturing was a manufacturer of prefab steel buildings, including hangars, that was founded in 1901. In 1928, Butler decided to venture into aircraft manufacturing. They founded Butler Aircraft Corp to do just that and the first (and only) product was the Blackhawk biplane.

Heading up the design team for the airplane was Waverly Stearman, brother of Lloyd Stearman who founded Stearman Aircraft. Prior to the foundation of either Stearman or Butler Aircraft, both brothers had worked at Swallow Aircraft. This probably explains the incredible similarity between the Blackhawk and Stearman C3 which were designed at almost the same time. While there’s no actual interchangeable parts between the two airplanes, they are very visually similar.

The Blackhawk was a three seat open biplane like so many of its competitors. Up front was a 220hp Wright J-5 radial. It was constructed using the standard steel tube fuselage and wood wings and had a conventional landing gear. The only really odd feature of the Blackhaw is it’s ailerons. Conventional biplanes with a longer top wing almost always have their ailerons on the top wing. The Blackhawk however, ditched the complex control system necessary to do that and simply put the ailerons on the lower wing.
