Purple Crash Monster DLG (4 min 46 sec)

Remember the purple DLG ?

Been trying to untwist the wing (?)
Still turns left , but at least I can tune it out some what .

Wow , Not great ! Hopefully I can get it to do something in the future ..
Needs a lot of work ..

But I am getting some where , I guess ?

I just dropped a bundle on a DLG , https://www.hyperflight.co.uk/products.asp?code=HAWK
1 meter fits me better than 1.5 meter .
Now for a decent 750 or smaller DLG

Rainbow2 flying wing with a 7045 prop (9 min 44 sec)

Prop is now a 7045 which pulls 15A+ from the battery .
First launch was conservative on power and the Rainbow fell out of the sky .
2nd launch was with more power ! ( Enough power to feel the wing trying to pull out of my hand )

With more power the R2 launches cleanly . That's the secret to launching wings , pony up with the OJ .. ( juice )

I think the wing actually flies better with the 7045 prop than with the 5x3x3 .. Speaking of flying , throttle was around 1/4 to 1/3 .. Hard to tell when flying . Good news is that it flies slow and clean when dialled in . It even glides nicely when the power is cut .

Colour me impressed ! especially if your looking for a slow wing or a fun wing .
Rates are still 50% with 70% Expo and the wing is just so stable and predictable ..
I did move the battery forward which looks to have helped enormously ..
CG looks to be right on about 160mm for that flight . ( With just a little bit more up elevator trim than the previous flight )

A) Feed in power for the launch
B) Some up elevator trim - lots of wings like this
C) Watch that CG
D) Don't over control the wing ( Elevon throws )
E) Be happy , fly RC !

I should thank Banggood again for sending me the R2 , don't know why I havent flown it more ? Might have been the DLG bug . I was crazy for DLG there for a while , I still like DLG but the weather has blown chunks for like all of 2019 . Hopefully 2020 is more DLG friendly .

Hmmmmm , DLG ...................

Martial law , house arrest , social distancing , call it what ever !

I have spent too much time window shopping ..

Anyways , some links for anyone that wants to invest some down time window shopping ..

Still downloading games , so may as well window shop some more ..

Games ?

Warthunder - PITA when the BS kicks in , especially bad in Tanks . Fantastic graphics and game play though , if you can deal with the BS .

World of Warships - Great game , BS factor no where as high as Warthunder .

Counter Strike : GO - CS always suffered from being hacked to death ( Cheating ) More bot's than you could shake your fist at !

I have spent half the day window shopping ( internet ) and my brain is ready to explode !

I did see a few interesting things , but with minimum orders around 500 to 1000 pieces ( Not dropping $2500 USD on a foam model )

I would like to see a distributor taking on a larger range of models , be nice ..

The other problem is the Ozzi banana ($) , it only worth a little more than half a banana ..

So everything costs more !

I will admit I have a few models to fly , but the weather is not playing nice !

Plus , the low iQ of some from the land of Oz is worrying . Is social distancing really as difficult as rocket science ? ( Apparently )

Rainbow2 Flying Wing (8 min 23 sec)

Wow , sent a long time ago by banggood.com , and did I fly it before ?
I could not find it on my Transmitter , so I did a re-bind and possibly a re-maiden !

A) Needs more power on launch ( under powered ) , that 5030x3 prop only pulls 5A full throttle .. So might need more prop .
B) What glue did I use , those harsh landings were loosening the main front carbon spars ( re-glued now )
C) 50% rates and 70% Expo
D) CG was around 170mm from the nose for that flight .. R2 was hunting both up and down , so I would call the CG too far back .
E) Flies slow and easy , might make for an excellent first wing as long as you keep the CG sensible .
F) For your maiden , make sure you run some up elevator , just a little . But nothing can compensate for a lack of power .
G) When you cut power , glides like a champ . ( Might work well on a slope )

I like it . Still needs some tuning for CG etc , but shows a really nice slow capability . I will have to pick another prop that loads up the motor a little more and gives better thrust . Once your flying you can back off the throttle , but at launch you want some power/thrust .

Banggood is taking pre orders on the TX16s from RadioMaster ...

If only the Ozzi banana was worth something !! ( One transmitter to rule them all )

49 grams in the wind ( LDARC 450x ) (7 min 12 sec)

Brushed 1s 450x in the wind .. Hunted the ground a lot .

+ We had a noisy pair of intruders last night !

Oh well , to be expected !

Looks like the Hobbyking website is grinding to a halt as people look to be buying stuff before prices change due to the plummeting Aust Bananan ( $ used to be a dollar , has not been a dollar for a long time ) ( 0.58599 ) was .56 , so worth around a half dollar . ( US )

For the US this is an issue as the greenback will be high , and buying US manufactured good will be insanely expensive .
For those sellers using the greenback as the currency for trade ?
I guess they can expect a decline in sales .

Milk vanished from the local supermarket , ?????
It has a relatively short shelf life , so why would people panic buy milk ?
Not like Australia has ever ( in my life time ) had a milk shortage .
I guess there is one now .
Dont take much for people to lose the plot hu ?
I blame the media and the government for their scare tactics .
Are people really this WEAK Minded ?
Cigarettes kill 500,000 Americans a year and coronary decease another million or so ..
In Oz 50,000 are killed by cigarettes ...

So why are people not foaming at the mouth over death sticks ?

Probably because of the government sponsored media scare campaign ... I understand informing people , but this media blitz is just insane . And all these government announcements etc , I call them scare tactics . Because they are scaring people rather than informing them !
I have video footage of people queuing over 100 meters to get into the supermarket .

Supermarket ques Apparently over 100 meters long ..

Panic buying is being fuelled by the = MEDIA ! & the Gooberment !

Wont be long before ration cards are introduced !

Swallow Flying Wing !

Disappointing on many levels ..
As a Noob Wing ! It might actually work . Cos it can fly sooooo " wait for it " ....... Slow !
On the downside , it's soft , and due to the drag just sucks a lot of power ( to maintain forward flight )
For those that can fly , there are better wings ( like the Bee 490 ) .
Dont forget , if you do Swallow ( sorry ) , use 9g servos , dont bother trying to save weight !
You will need a decent motor and battery combo if you want to see speed ! But then the swallow will flap its wings like a Seagull .
Did I mention there are better wings ?

3D Printer

I told myself , 2020 I would start printing .
Geetech A10 printer .
Filament run out sensor , will be modified .. ( More later )
At the moment I am chasing cheap filament ..
ABS $13 oz , and PLA around $18 oz ..
Ozzi banana $ is nose diving , so a while from now costs of everything will go up !
I will buy a little filament now , what else am I going to do during this time of uncertainty .

Went out a second time with the wing ( over due flight )

A) Wow , this is a really draggy design , it really slows down when you cut back on power .
B) ANd it flexes something terrible , it looks to flex so much it might actually affect the direction you fly in .
C) That softness ! It might also be responsible for the motor screws coming lose and the motor falling off !
D) NX3 flight stability (?) looks to have failed to initiate .. ( Wonderful )

Super Cub lands (6 min 17 sec)

At last , I pulled off a landing .

Rather than cutting power and trying to glide in ( nose drops ) .
That last landing I stayed on the power ( 20 to 30 percent ) and when the wheels touched the ground I cut the power .
And it landed !

So it looks like the Super Cub needs to stay on the power !

Wow ! Looks trick = Counter rotating props ..

Now if only they made one about half the size

Nope ( First 18650 plane fail ) (0 min 6 sec)

Yes , I set myself up to fail .

1) I chose a failure of a 480mm RC glider conversion ( Flew like rubbish = Just like in the video ) Why ? Probably because the 480mm glider was a waste of space . In the rubbish bin now ( after saving the goodies )

2) I really was in a hurry ! Haste makes waste

3) The battery carrier / holder .. = Failure .. I only had the one so failed to set it up correctly . All the metal hardware on these are horrible conductors . So you need to bypass the heck out of it ( I failed to do that - I only did a spring bye pass and poorly at that )

4) The brushed motors I had ? Where is the thrust ? Is it the motors or is it the ESC ? Either way , as serious lack of power . Or very poor motor choices ( purchase )

5) I did learn something !!!!! So was not a complete waste .

6) I really want to do a 18650 plane , really I do . But maybe a dual 18650 ( 8.4v ) with brushless ?

Anyways , thats what I did today . I played with the idea . Now I need to do some testing . I think I need another hot 8520 , these larger motors dont seem to respond well to 1s power ...

The great toilet paper shortage of 2020

I hope everyone has some !

It would seem there has been some TP related violence in Australia .
Guess civilised society is only an illusion , just a little strain and some revert to animal instincts !
This be friday , and people are driving like idiots .

Looks like a little strain is enough to pull out the threads of criminality !

Pictured are two ESC's ...
One is a brushless 1s to 2s , meant for quads I think ..
But for 1s , one should be able to throw on a JR plug and take + power from the battery ..

The other is a brushed 1s ESC and it is small , about the size of a JR plug , That's interesting . ( 5A from mem )

Should be 2 more ESC on the way ...

I was thinking about the cub dropping it's nose when power was cut .

If it's not a CG issue ? It has to be something else ( right ? )

So I got out my ruler and started working out my wing angle and my horizontal stab angle .. ( See Picture )

Looks like the cub had built in down elevator ..
The tell was = Finally flew straight , with up elevator trim ( quite visible ) ..

Corrective measures have been taken , so just need to see what happens next time I fly ( Might have some up elevator now )

Volantex Super Cub & Taranis (10 min 25 sec)

A little bit of morning video + I went out again in the afternoon .

Changes in the afternoon =
1) 44mm Wheels
2) A little lead in the tail

Seemed to fly and land a little better ..
Wheels are still too small . flips on landing ..
Rolls better on the 44s but still flips .
