I used to have a little Dremel circular saw to use in my Dremel tool. I didn't use it much but for some jobs it was just perfect. I also recognized it had the potential to be very dangerous. It was kept with my most important attachments.

One day I came home from work and went in my shop. I notice there is a tin can in the vice. The tin can has various cuts and peeled back panels. Next to it, on the bench, was my Dremel tool and my once precious saw. Now it was in sad, sad shape. It was warped and blued from overheating. A lot of the teeth were missing. I knew one of our pre teen Irish twin boys had done it but there was no resolving who. (Frankly, considering our history, I was just glad I wasn't at the emergency room - again.)

So I thought to replace it - wrong. No longer available. I guess experience proved my assessment of danger to Dremel and they discontinued it. I kept an eye out for a replacement in every Dremel display I came across, to no avail. I did finally find a replacement saw from another company. It's actually a better design. I don't remember where I got it for sure. I put it away in a drawer of my small parts cabinet and I included the product description sheet that came with it. Tells me everything about the product except who made it. I'm thinking I got it at the local Woodcrafters store.

The search occurred before internet, eBay and Amazon. That's right - manual. I only use it on a blue moon for very specific jobs, so I haven't looked lately.

Update: I just read some earlier entries in my blog and I found out I bought it at the '06 Toledo R/C Show. No hint of the vendor.

A friend asked me to build for him an ASW28 fully fpv equiped as mine....
V1 is def out so far....So we decided to do with V2.

The wing clips are really nice compared to V1 wing joiner...
Unfortunately, the wheel had to be removed for battery purpose (4000mah 4s 10c)

A friend didn't really like his LD 3XL V3 and gifted it to me.
It's 3.6m wingspan
ESC : Dlux 100A
Battery : 5000mAH 4s 20c
Motor Dymond : not sure about the model so far
In the nose : 420g of screws as ballast

I tried it as he buit it and it feels really tail heavy.
My goal : Equip this bird with FPV gear and balance it correctly

If anyone has done yet, I'd be happy to share !

I used the same aftermarket gear used on my Apprentice and plugged it into the slot used for the front float gear. I used a Dremmel tool the width of the slot to remove the plastic blocking the metal gear. Once all the plastic is routed out the gear is pushed in as far as it can go and it's almost flush with the plastic belly. Washers and screws or plastic retaining straps secure and lock the gear in place.

The angle of the wheel pants are about 20 degrees up too far from the fuselage centerline and must be twisted in a vice with vicegrips to make it look good.

The Timber sits lower and the axle are more forward so tip overs are no problem anymore. There is less prop clearance and this may be an issue if you are cutting grass on takeoff and landings. The Timber is lighter and more streamlined so top end speed and glide has increased especially if you can brake the prop. I tried programming the stock ESC for brake but could not get into the program even with a non SAFE Spektrum receiver. I intend to swap it out for a 60 amp ESC that works good on my Apprentice....Continue Reading

Food for thought on making a mini power distribution board for a few cents a piece. 3/4" Copper pipe clamps, <$2.5 per 5 pack.

- Flatten the clamp, I did it by hand and tried my luck with the vice.
- Measure halfway and cut the clamp in half.
- Added electrical tape to bind the two halves together. A small piece of silicon wire is used as a spacer and insulator.
- Once the soldering is done then more tape will be added.

Total weight, 7.2 grams
Trimmed mine to about 5 grams

Remember to use steel wool or some abbrasive to clean the copper surface before soldering. I will be adding a regulator and capacitor to mine aswell to have the full function of a traditional PDB.
