It took awhile to complete.

The airframe is mostly complete but there are a few details left to finish up before covering

A little more work required on the instrument panel, but back to the airframe.

Dean Gradwell's assembled Ka-3 with wings and canopy frame. Not bad looker with the streamline steel struts, now to build wings for my Ka-3 fuselage.

This last week the two N72DG Cherokee sailplanes were together at the SSA convention In Sparks-Reno. Both got a lot of attention during the three days.

The main part of the Ka-3 fuselage frames are built. Still a lot of tedious filleting to do before the fun of detailing can begin.

After coping the ends of the doweling on the fuselage so far, a hole has appeared on the end of my left thumb. While that is healing a weight check of the fuselage put it just over a pound. Was hoping for less, but there is no place where it can be lightened.
Worked a little on the seat back also. Plenty of building yet to do.

After spending a bit more time in the shop over the past few days the Ka-3 airframe is more or less starting to take final shape. That is of course not counting what's yet to do under the lower longerons.

The scenery around Concrete WA looks fantastic from the camera position on the 1/3 scale Grunau Baby IIb wing mount.

Started work on some of the functional scale features for a new sailplane project to be finished before the aerotow season opens next year in the Pacific North West. As you can see from the photo, it is a functional 1/3 scale tow release that just happens to fit in the palm of my hand for size comparison.

Recorded video from my Ka-8b this weekend at the Yakima Aerotow event. The temp was hot the thermals big and plentiful.

Last weekend we attended the first aerotow event at Morrison Field located just North of Logan Lake B.C. The weather was not very welcoming but the scenery and hospitality was outstanding.

Captured this video frame from the Flight of the Moswey 4 taken at Tug Fest this year. The Moswey 4 was circling in one of the house thermals just West of the field.

Had the opportunity this last weekend to try out a new wing camera mount using my modified World Models Hall Cherokee II. The camera and mount weigh in at 3oz. A counter weight is secured to the bottom of the opposite wing with tape to keep it all in balance.

Attended the Weaver Field annual breakfast in Othelo WA. on the 19th of March. The grass was a bit high to ROG the Arcus M but a hand lunch put it in the air.

The ST Models Arcus M arrived the other day. Now fitted out with a 7 ch Jeti receiver and 1300mAh 3s battery with an all up weight of 2 lb.
Really looking forward to flying it when the snow finally clears in about March.

I have compiled three aerotows of the same sailplane to show how different tows can be from the hypothetically perfect tow. I will admit that over the past 14 years of being a tug pilot that I also have made good, bad and really ugly tows.

Near perfect to the wild side (4 min 32 sec)
