(6-25-09) Some of my latest F-106 project planes. One is a 21" wingspan flatplate wing to be a pusher jet. The other is a 30" wingspan and will use a 70mm edf for propulsion.

The first pic is me in acft #793 preparing for a runup on the engine trim pad sometime in 80-81 timeframe. I had also qualified for my F-106 taxi license but only used it once to perform a compass swing in the back seat of acft #90150 while at Tyndall AFB during a weapons meet there. Air Defense Command (ADC) was the last Major Command in the Air Force that allowed enlisted personnel to perform taxi tests of their aircraft. This practice was stopped when we merged with Tactical Air Command (TAC) and became Air Defense Tactical Air Command (ADTAC).

The T-33 was one of three aircraft that our squadron used as targets. The T-birds carried a chaff pod and some other ECM to foil the intercept attempts of our Six'es. Unfortunately, I never made it up in one of our F-106B models because they were hanger queens and when they were flying, they were needed for qualification training for our pilots.

I did get up in the T-33 show below on a target mission off the California coast. It is now on display at the Castle Air Museum in Atwater, California. The F-80/T-33 wasn't a hot rod in the sense of the F-106 and later jets, but don't let anybody fool you, it was a awesome little bird for its time.
