Just documenting my adventures with my newly acquired 1987 BMW 325i Convertible that needs some TLC.

1. Performed lots of Electrical Trouble-Shooting due to the NO START condition.
2. Replaced the Engine Reference Sensor as the old one was in very bad shape.
3. Eliminated all relays, fuses, and Motronic Control Unit (1.1 version) and determined both fuel pumps ruined / failed.
4. Replaced both Fuel pumps and Fuel Filter.
5. Changed Engine Oil and Engine Oil fliter.
6. Replaced the Brake Master Cylinder.
7. Bleed brake lines in Progress (completed the front).

Background History:

One day the car just quit, it cranked, however, didn't want to start. Looked at the "BMW" 3 series Electrical Troubleshooting Manual and pages 41 & 42 Electrical System provides a Continuity Tests for IGNITION SWITCH.

Disconnected C200 and at the "Switch" side only three terminals ring okay when the Switch is placed in ON/START and one does not Ring.

The Bentley Manual itself says that there's two Violet wires but, I only see one. Additionally, the manual says there should be a BLACK/YELLOW and I don't see this color except a SOLID BLACK. The actual Switch harness has a Solid Green,...Continue Reading
