Its funny to look back at my early blog posts. Before I actually spent time doing it semi-professionally. One of them actually states I wish Kyosho would make re-issues cars. A few short years later and I'm building everyone I can get my hands on..

Oil & gas industry is both very familiar and strange to the public, people are consuming oil &gas every day but very few got to know the technologies of oil exploitation, refining, storage, and transportation.

Among the various work items of oil workers, pipeline inspection is the most basic and difficult one. In order to ensure the safety of energy transmission, oil workers must conduct regular inspections of oil and gas pipelines.

The total mileage of oil and gas pipelines in China is nearly 150,000 kilometers. The pressure on the safe maintenance and daily inspection of oil and gas pipelines is increasing. Manual inspections have been unable to meet the needs of the industry. In order to improve inspection efficiency and avoid potential safety hazards, pipeline inspection drones have developed rapidly and have been used widely in recent years.

UAV for oil&gas inspection solutions:

I-Oilfield geography mapping, pipeline planning

Visualized 3D image data acquisition system for specific mapping of oilfield exploration, mining, and land planning.

II-Petrochemical pipeline inspection, high-altitude equipment inspection

The drone replaces manual work for high-altitude equipment inspections and oil depot monitoring.

III-Accident spot reconnaissance

The UAV can monitor through the smoke and patrol the accident fire source. The gas detection system can detect pipeline leakage in time and take prompt measures.

Compared with manpower,...Continue Reading

In 1080p 60fps - This is a performance flight of my Eflite F-16 Falcon 64mm EDF Jet BNF Basic.

Eflite F-16 Falcon 64mm EDF Jet BNF Basic Performance Flight (4 min 15 sec)

Powered by a Pulse 4S 2250mAh 45C, weighing in at 240 grams and set as far aft as possible. The CG was measured at 83mm from the leading edge of the main wing (from the manual addendum's recommended CG range of 75-85mm). Flight Timer was set to 3:40 minutes. Flown with a Spektrum DX8 G2 Transmitter.

This is a jet that I was initially reluctant to get, just because of the trim scheme / livery. However, the F-16's unique flight characteristics and personality in the air has justifiably won me over. Compared to the Eflite and FMS F-15 Eagle 64mm EDF Jets, the Eflite F-16 Falcon 64mm EDF Jet demands more in pilot proficiency. In flight, the F-16 feels less stable but is definitely more agile. Be mindful of airspeed on final approach for landings, and bleed off as much airspeed as you can during your final flare.. Otherwise, you may find yourself back in the air for a go-around. Also watch out for crosswind approaches and avoid them if possible. Lastly, the narrow stance of the wheels makes ground handling and taxiing in an "appropriate" speed, a skill in itself.. beware of making quick steering movements after touchdown and during taxiing back to the hangar.

Is it less stable, yes. Is it more agile, yes. Does it require more skill out of the pilot, absolutely.

I like it!

I cannot believe it has been 6 years since my last posting here!! Doesn't help that I spend most of my R/C forum time on Helifreak. But that is because the focus of my aircraft is definitely rotary wing. I guess I can also say I've taken a 5 year break from it. (off and on) Was checking on how to assemble EC3 connectors and the link took me to R/C Groups. When I get more time I'll post more and add pics, etc!!

Helmut Stettmaier in Bavaria, Germany, originally described the Shepard Tone Vario concept in the March 2018 issue of the now-defunct Radio Controlled Soaring Digest. It's the first article in that issue and the title is "An Innovative Method for Acoustically Rendering Climb Data for Model Gliders Using Shepard Tones."

The idea is that when your glider is circling in and out of lift and alternating between rising and falling, all you'll hear from a conventional variometer are high-pitched beeps while you're rising and lower tones while you're descending. The problem is that it won't tell you whether you're achieving a net profit or loss in altitude with each circle. Helmut offered a solution for that, which I call the Shepard Tone Vario.

The Shepard Tone vario isn't technically a variometer because it doesn't directly indicate vertical speed. Instead it produces a tone with a pitch that varies directly with altitude. It's a sort of audible altimeter that produces rising and falling tones instead of numbers. If you're circling in and out of lift you'll hear the tone rise and fall as you go around and your glider rises and falls, and you'll be able to hear whether the highest pitch you reach during a circle is higher, lower, or the same as the highest pitch you reached during the previous circle.

But the magic is in the Shepard tones. Shepard tones are auditory illusions. They can seem to continuously rise or fall yet never go beyond your range of hearing....Continue Reading

Electronic Speed Controllers, in short ESC, are indispensable parts of FPV drones as they function to connect the flight controller to the motor. This component takes the signal from the flight controller and gets power from the battery. The main function of ESC in a drone is to make the brushless motor spin. Brushless motors cant spin on their own because they are devoid of brushes i.e. commutators -which provide the physical contact of motor windings to spin the motor. Therefore, brushless motors require the help of ESC to spin.

To buy electronic speed controllers for drone, you should know about how ESCs are rated.

How are ESCs rated?

The ratings of ESCs depend upon how much current they can pass to the motors. What ESC has to do is to switch power on to the motor coils at extremely fast rates. This switching is controlled through the use of microprocessor and carried out by transistors called MOSFETs, which are commonly known as FETs.

Amperage

How much current i.e. amperage can pass through the ESC is determined by the size and quality of these FETs. Most of the ESCs have ratings such as 30 amps or 25 amps. This magnitude generally represents the sustained current that an electronic speed controller can handle. For short durations, generally less than 10 seconds, ESCs are capable of handling more magnitude of current. For example, an ESC labeled as 30 ampere is capable of a 40 amp burst.

The amp rating is an important factor to consider when you buy...Continue Reading

Hi, my name is Daryl. I got out of this sport about 12 years ago and recently decided to get back in. I first purchased a foam electric trainer to get back in the air (On top of boat) I'll be taking it up soon.
I was looking for a Sig Somethin Extra and found a guy wanting to sell all his stock which included a partially built SSE kit. I'll be working on it today. It also included several engines, several unbuilt kits, several old transmitters, a trainer that needs work, a low wing sport plane and a bunch of miscellaneous RC plane stuff. I will put up a few pics and would appreciate any input as I go along.
