I have not done much within the Blog portion of RCGroups so I thought I would give it a try and use it to document a restoration project I am going to begin later this fall. I recently received a sailplane from the estate of a modeler I knew. His name was Vern and he had a large influence on my desire to build model sailplanes. I'm not talking about assembling an ARF, I am talking about taking a pile of wood and turning it into a soaring machine.

The sailplane I plan to restore is called a Miskeet. It was designed by Harley Michaelis and was published in Flying Models magazine in 1969. I have had the opportunity to talk with Harley, via email, about this design and I hope to do it justice as I restore it to flying status.

The model I have is in remarkably good condition but will need a complete going over and some repairs made to it before it sees any air under its wings. Repairs are needed in the tail, the fuselage and the covering will need to be replaced. Hopefully I don't find any bad issues once I uncover the wings. They seem stout now but who knows what is lurking under the old Monokote.

I will update this blog as I go and I hope that those of you who elect to follow it will find it enjoyable and maybe even helpful.
