Just finished up one of Leadfeather's Yak 55's. The maiden was a hover in the basement. Good fun.

3D Hobby Shop's 89" Slick (5 min 47 sec)

Well I finally maiden the big Slick. Only got one flight in, but am looking forward to more. Sure is a different beast! Should be lots of fun. Just need to do some fine tuning and play with the CG.

After returning from SEFF, I've decided to go electric with the big Slick. The Neu setup is impressive. I'd like to go that route, but will probably go with the Hacker A60-18L for now.

Anyway, a couple of more pics.

Well, I've finally have everything cleaned up and put away after returning from SEFF. What a great time. This was the first year. My main goal for making the trip was to hopefully be near the 3D Hobby Shop guys and see how they setup and fly. I was hoping to setup close by them and visit. Boy was I surprised when I was told to set up right with them. What a great group. Really great to meet everyone. A big thanks to Tim for helping with my setup and allowing me to look over his shoulder. Also, to Ben and Dave for all their help.

The weather finally cleared and the wind died this evening. Perfect chance to maiden the latest addition from 3D Hobby Shop. I was certainly not disappointed with the Edge. Flew great, only requiring a few clicks of trim. I need to play with the CG and radio setup, but can already tell this will be one of my favorites.

UPS showed up a day early with my 89" Slick. I have to say the packaging is quite impressive! Everything arrived in great shape. The fit and finish is always well done on the 3D Hobby Shop planes and this is no exception.

I still need to gather a few more components as time and money allow. But the build looks pretty straight forward. Should be fun.

Just finished up the 3DHS 47" Edge 540. Hope to maiden it Thursday evening now that the rain has finally stopped. Also, trying to finish a Polaris for my father for the weekend. Then I can concentrate on the big Slick.

After making a last minute decision to go, my father and I headed to Toledo early Friday morning. Now that I'm back home after 16 hours of driving in two days, I can say it was definitely worth it. We arrived at the show about 1:00 and after a lunch at Tony Packo's (little disappointing), we stayed until closing. Then off to the ETOC. It was good to see the first round and some freestyle. But, needed some sleep and headed to the hotel. Our plan was to spend a few hours at the show on Saturday and hit the road. The funny thing is, I thought I had seen everything on Friday. We ended up staying until 3:00. Lunch was at Pizza Papalis. Highly recommended, especially the deep dish pizza!


The car wasn't loaded full coming home. That was only because Ben at 3DHobby Shop sold out of 89" Slicks! I did order one and should see it in a couple of weeks. As this is my first delve into larger airframes and gas engines, I had lots of questions. Ben talked me through what I needed and helped make it less intimidating. Also great to talk to Tim and Scott as they helped me out as well. Thanks guys!

The other purchases included a 47" Edge from 3DHobby Shop. Looking forward to trying a Scott Stoops design. My father picked up a depron Polaris kit which looks pretty cool. Also, lots of supplies and other goodies.

Just maiden my Katana Mini today. Needed some slight trimming. Figured it would need more, considering the rear of the fuselage, rudder and ailerons were a bit twisted. I think the kit has been sitting around a while before I got it (second hand). Overall, I'm happy with the way it flies. I had been warned not to get behind it. She's pretty quick and need to keep speed up until touch down. Should be a fun one to practice on.

Built it pretty much stock except the addition of the 3DHobby Shop landing gear which I highly recommend. A lot more substantial then the supplied CF gear.

Well, I finally put the Easy Star in the air with a camera. What a great plane (as if everyone didn't know that by now). Replaced the canopy with foam I carved to mount Noto's modified Aiptek camera. Need to come up with a different design, but this one works. Pics are better if the camera is mounted 30-45 degrees down to get less of the sky.

This set is of the nearby farmland, mostly Amish.
