More thoughts and reports on the RCM Trainer 60, now I've had my solo wings a few weeks and have been flying it every chance I get. There are a few special points that set it apart from other trainers. I mentioned the two main ones, higher sink rate and higher speed, I'd like to add some detail to that. The reason for these, I think, is that it's not a high-lift wing. With an asymmetrical airfoil section and not a large wing area, it's not like other trainers I've flown. It has a higher wing loading, the basic design comes out close to 20 oz/ft^2, most of the trainers I had lessons on were on the order of 12 to 16. It makes a big difference, especially together with that lower-lift wing section. But I happen to like it.

It makes some important differences. When you're on a lighter basic trainer, turns are easy. You just roll it a little, probably under 30 degrees bank, and apply a little back-pressure to the elevator stick, and it'll come around nice and smoothly. You practice this until it doesn't balloon those turns, and soon you start adding rudder, known as a coordinated turn. That's how you turn just about any model, but this one doesn't make it quite so easy. For starters, you have to fly it right through the turn, by which I mean you don't just wait for it to turn automatically for you, you have to strictly control its attitude at all times. A huge variety of Electric, Gas, and nitro boats ran at this 2 day event. Team USA won the battle over Canada. A bunch of Team Giant Power drivers took home lots of trophies! Tom Baffer Jr. won high points Oneida Cup and every electric class entered! Tom had perfect scores (1600 points from 4 1st place heats) in 3 of his fast electric classes!

pretty much a blu-baby clone, and all credit to Tony65x55 for a great design which i have largely followed in proportions and layout

my spin on it is slightly larger (just shy of 37") and will use 2s for primary training,and probably 3s for the intermediate mode with ailerons and very likely a kline-fogleman airfoil - those things are fascinating and completely out of kilter with traditional aerodynamic profiles... and very easy to build compared to traditional streamlines ... i really feel the urge to try one

mine is also way more complicated than the original, because.... i can't help myself

anyway, this entry is just to announce the build, and direct anyone who is intrigued to check out the more protracted descriptions of the project, and a selection of photos of the process

In trying to have a discussion with some of the AMA's staunch supporters. they tend to look askew at anyone whom doesn't seem satisfied with the status quo...
I've been questioning the AMA's methods and results for quite some time now..The large amounts of money spent on wining and dining in D.C., and the scant results stemming from the cash flow..
Mr. Taylor did with $10k, what the AMA couldn't do with at least a Million dollars, (possibly more)IE- stop the FAA in it's tracks.
The AMA hasn't published accurate membership figures yet this year (possibly 140,000 , down from the 188,000 presumed at last years' final tally.
That's a L A R G E decline !-Oh, don't fret- there are nearly 400,000 modelers registered with the FAA, so R/C is alive and well.. The great drop-off in membership is a result of a useless Magazine, non-existent Insurance coverage, and N O W !, the monthly renewal program that allows you to get a full years' membership from the month you join... This has caused some 'tally' problems as the numbers are (in flux.)- it's strange that my computer can add my posts, with no input from me, but the AMA's computer wizards can't seem to get theirs to add each new member to a graph somewhere., and compute an accurate count.
I'm going to keep 'whining' until something happens.

A simulation of the corona was released


showing a very unique pattern, distinct from all the past coronas. It made the lion kingdom wonder if it was worth F5.6 instead of F2.8, but F2.8 is very sharp on the wide lens. The corona will be captured by many men & the lion kingdom does mean men. So it won't be worth sacrificing the timelapse to try to get it on the CU lens. It would have been nice to have a 9th camera for making a bracketed CU, anyways.

As we approach zero hour, the mane reason for preparing 8 cameras & having 4 pointing at the sun was to increase the chance of at least 1 getting a minimal shot. The absolute worst thing that could happen is all the cameras failing & your only memory being what you saw with your own eyes. Some of them are definitely expected to get nothing.

everyone has their own ideas; do what you like, but here's what works for me

while i appreciate that local vendors may well offer advantages in terms of quality control and after sales service, you need to realise that they are selling the same stock as everyone else (unless you get burnt by cheap pirated knock-offs), but adequate research on the forums and using your google-fu will help you find significant bargains

please note that whilst i sometimes link "affiliate items" that garner me some small rewards for referral, that doesn't alter the price versus buying from a direct link, and i am very open about the process - in fact, i am often too lazy to modify the link to my benefit

in any case, my reviews and comments on stuff are without fear or favour - i have nothing to lose by telling it like it is, because if i think something is a steaming crock i won't be directing you to buy it anyway, and if it's good, i'm pleased to be able to enlighten you

when you buy local, the added cost is like buying extended warranty - you pay for it, you might benefit from it, but in effect you are buying something you hope to not need - it's a bit like disability insurance... which i admit i'm glad i have, because all the spare time i have to write on this forum is being sponsored by mine ... but my life is more valuable than toys, so i take a calculated risk on toys that i don't with my health

FlyingCinema CineTank MK2. This build took awhile to get this far. I first saw this over 2 years ago and decided on a DAYA 550 instead.
After completing the DAYA I immediately realized the props showing in the camera during almost any elevator
speed. I played with gimbal limits on the DAYA but props will show on this, period.
While happy with how well the DAYA fly's, I leisurely looked for a better craft.
The DAYA 550 frame is still my favorite, but the props before I reach 10 mph are picked up by the camera.
If I stay on the elevator the props remain in camera range. No big deal, for aerial photography, its a big deal.
I noticed two frames that looked good and seemed either may solve my issue.

I went with the FlyingCinema CineTank MK 2 L and with it, a slow slide down the rabbit hole of builds.
I almost scrapped this for parts... or thought about placing it in the direct path of the local bus route.
This was the most challenging built so far.
It took 6 months in between jobs to 1. build, 2. test, 3. rebuild... 4. repeat. I'm at 98% completion now;
just some (I hope) fine tuning or different pitch props.

Not a comprehensive review...

I break a lot of frames. I'm good at it, really good at it. So I needed to replace a 100mm frame for 8.5mm 2S motors and other than making another bamboo frame I searched Aliexpress for a cheap deal. I chanced upon this ultra cheap carbon frame https://www.aliexpress.com/item/JMT-...311.0.0.X4n4Wq for 2.31. With it being so cheap, if I broke it, I wouldn't be bothered. There were no specs and dimensions, and after doing some rigorous searching on the net for a reviews (finding zero), it was with me within two weeks.

So essentially, the frame is not assembled upon arrival which means constructing it. The 2mm thickness frame sections I guess are supposed to be easy to put together with minimal fuss. This was not the case. As with these products the dimensions and the way they are cut mean that everything is a tight fit, so much so that none of it actually fits. You'll need to grind down the interconnecting parts with a file while trying to minimize carbon fibre dust (which is harmful to your lungs). Best doing this by making the carbon fibre damp and not using a dremel which flings dust into the air.

After much fiddling and filing, I managed to get it into a frame and weighed it with the grommets. It came up a rosy 11 grams. A bit heavy in my opinion but it's 2mm thickness and was going to use 2s motors. The immediate thing I noticed after putting it together was the arms and and the cut out sections.
