Well it's been pretty busy around here. With the shop staying busy and deer season going not much time for anything else. But everyday I do RC somehow. It might me reading up here on the forum with my morning coffee or taping up some foam board for future projects, I try to RC a little everyday. Well remember the buddy I mentioned in my 2nd post? Well he had come up to visit about 6 weeks ago. He was really excited to see me fly and check out the new airfield out back. We got to talking and he had said that he looked into a couple of planes on HH but they was out of stock. I pulled out the tablet and checked for myself and sure enough one of the planes he was looking at was in stock. He handed me his card and said order it, have it shipped here. Cool, done. I had also showed him some videos of Ed's work with DTFB. I didn't think it would be up his alley but he went home ordered a esc/edf combo and visited Dollar Tree Awsome I thought this is gonna be fun.
Well he showed up this last week to hang out and fly planes. He had a newly built [email protected] Jet (thanks Ed) and he also bought a Nano S2 before leaving Dallas. Myself, I have been getting a couple of batteries in here and there. Nothing new, still take off and land in begginer mode but mainly fly in intermediate. So I'm coming along. Here's some videos for your viewing pleasure.

P.S. He hasn't flown in over 12 yrs. Just a very little time on my sim since I bought it a couple of months ago. His interlink has been broke for years too. I just found out today that he bought a new sim.

Alot of fun this Eve. Nothing dramatic, just slow learning flights. Gps still disabled. Still flying in beginner mode. Flipped the switch a couple of times to Intermediate and wow. I'll stick to begginer for a bit. I did realize after my flights this Eve that I have the transmitter set to high rates.
I believe if I flip that to lo rates then intermediate won't be so bad. Only time will tell.......

Well I think I'm comfortable enough to charge up 2 batteries and enjoy a little more fly time.

What is the magic number I'm looking for in battery voltage after a flight? I running 3s 11.1vdc 1300mA

I had set my timer lastnight for 5 minutes. When I cked that battery it was 3.91vdc. I think I could fly a little longer but don't want to push it to far until I get my approaches and landings down.

I did realize lastnight that it's not smart to have your wind sock right at the threshold/entrance of the runway. I needed to be at the windsocks height to have a better landing approach. So it's moved.

And away we go...........

Well here it is guys and gals. Gotta say I was nervous but I did pretty good for my first ever flight. Sorry about the 2 video set-up. My camera gal tensed up a little on my take off and maybe have hit a button which stopped the recording. A couple of minutes later at least she did realize that it had stopped. She was able to catch the last half of my flight. Alot learned in this short\fast 5 minutes of flight. I did have the GPS disabled. I knew I wouldn't use any of those features and I have read to much about them messing up. With my layout and tree line here I decided its more safe to fly without the GPS. Takeoff was a little sketchy but just pulled back and let her climb. Got on up just rolled around until my timer went off and then started the nerve racking part, the landing. Now I've played this out in my head hundreds of times. With every many many passes on the tractor while I was dragging out the run way I would just day dream of my flight pattern, approach and landing. Which trees to stay above, which tree\s to go around. I feel good about this evening and that's all that really matters. Hope y'all enjoy some noob videos.

Well fart. Typed this out to find out I can't upload videos here. Bummer. I guess I'll look into getting a tube account and linking.

Had a full day of much needed rain. Much needed to help pack and smooth out my runway. It's coming along nice. I think I'll be able to fly as soon as it dries out. May be a few days with these storms coming in.

well I made the decision that I'm going to teach myself. After visiting the "local" club, I'll save that $120 and figure it out. The guys there was super friendly and welcoming.(it helps to have a hot g/f with ya)😎😎😎 I will visit there off and on to say howdy and maybe learn something but not really interested in flying there. It's an hour away and of course has rules, lol. Now I'm not saying rules are bad but I'm the type that manages to bend them and break them pretty often.
So maybe later in life I'll visit that side of the hobby. So where to fly??? How about out back. We have 90 acres. Our animals and hunting dosent take it all up.
So build a airfield. Yhup that's what I'm doing. But that's for another time. Back to where am I going to begin. The sim, I'm going to go that route. There is really no question in which sim to get. So I looked at the newest version. Nope, can't do it. eBay here I come. Found version 4.5 and 5.5 with InterLink for $70. That'll do to get me some much needed stick time. So it got ordered, came in,installed and fired up. Works well. Boy oh boy is that reset button nice. I joke with my girl and yell out "that's another 300 bucks smashed in the ground." 146 hrs of sim time later that didn't happen as much. When it does it's all my fault and I know what I did wrong. But it's fun to try when you have that fancy reset button. I'm super comfortable and ready to fly. I purchased a Carbon Cub S from the "local" hobby. Great guys. The plane is together and hanging in the spare bedroom patiently waiting her turn to fly. I know I could get her up and back down safely without the use of the extra bells and whistles the CCs has. So what's the hold up, that airfield I spoke of. The landing strip needs a couple more drags before I'm happy. I don't need any other worries during the first few flights. So patience is the key young grasshopper.

So this last year the flying bug bit me pretty hard. I remembered back to the mid-2000s when I moved in with a friend of a friend. It was tough times and I needed a place to stay pretty bad. First thing I noticed was some big nitro planes hanging in the garage. I commented and we chatted about them. I told him I always wanted to fly RC. First thing out of his mouth was "get the sim". I thought heck no I'm to cool for a sim. He told me you will spend alot of money in this hobby just learning.
He smashed his 1st three planes. He bought the sim and no longer smashed and crashed. That kind of made be a believer. Well money wasn't right, I had no computer. Fast forward 15-16 years. Like I said that bug bit pretty hard. I started doing a little research of what's out there and what's new. Wow what a change RC anything has made over the past 3 decades. I raced off road and a little tri oval growing up at a dark cave called Indy RC world (hey Steve). So I thought I would have a heads up getting into planes. Well all the electronics have changed alot. So there has been a lot of reading and comparing and reading and reading.
I enjoy learning new things so this has been a good time figuring out all the new technology. Stumbled across this place called rcgroups.com. Boy o boy what alot of help y'all have been, past and present members. Some have helped me directly while others don't even know they have helped. Big thanks to yall!!
So let's get this ball rolling. I'm chomping at the bit to go fly!!!

This will be my home for the journey that is RC Planes.
I have never flown but always wanted to. Money and life has a way of blocking alot of things.
