Picked up the bi-plane last year and had it custom built/covered by Tom. I call it "Evil Kenevil" inspired, lol. It flies like a dream, totally scale. With a nice headwind it can literally float in place with appropriate throttle and rudder. I also picked up the Pilatus Porter, another very light plane flown with a 1800-2200 3 cell pack. This one is a 3 channel set up, and coats in for glorious landings. Finally I picked up the low wing variant this past weekend after seeing this fly at the Warwick Fly In. Hoping to get in touch with Tom and see if he would build a larger scale Porter for me. The quality of the builds and covering job are superior.

Funny how I have wanted one of these for many years. They seemed hard to find and barely seen on ebay or this forum. Finally I got one of my own, made a few videos, and in the last month I have seen more 270's listed than ever before. Strange how that is. Here is a pretty decent run video of this awesome engine.

I don't post much to this blog anymore, but this video is something I felt like sharing here. This engine was sent to me by a new customer for a bearing replacement. It was in very bad shape on the inside even though externally it looked pretty good. I have an entire playlist of video showing the tear down and reassembly. This is the first run on video.

People post and tend to forget who reads. We all do it. We read a post and reply ... our attention is on that post we reply to. Trouble is - that and our reply are read by others who's minds are not similarly 'focused'.

The result can be less than desirable - especially for a newcomer to the hobby.

Bias is all part of our individual make-up, we like to think we can step outside our bias and preferences, but in fact its not that easy. Especially if a discussion takes a path that gets somewhat heated. The 'gloves come off' and bias rears up to serious levels ...

It becomes sad when a poster then resorts to insults or name calling. It usually means the person who resorts to insult has lost the argument and has nowhere left to go. It would have been much better if they had left the discussion alone with their previous.

Sometimes the poster with nowhere to go - resorts to 'baiting' - trying to provoke a response. The best reply to that is NO Reply ! That infuriates the antagonist much more than any reply.

Above is a part of every forum - some have moderators that deaol with it quietly and effectively, others don't. But its there and well to remember that we cannot control who reads our posts and the consequences.

Décidément, je ne m'en lasse pas ! On continue les investigations sur ce Fameux FIMI X8 SE de XIAOMI, encore quelques modes de vol intéressants qui fonctionnent parfaitement et qui apporteront quelques prises de vue originales. Je film aujourd'hui en 4K 30fps avec le réglage "Vivid" dans les paramètres vidéos, une résolution adaptée aux images lentes, pour mes prochaines prises de vue je pense augmenter les fps et tourner en 2.7K ou 1080p pour pouvoir faire quelques jolis ralentis.

Getting closer

Hello,

Could someone help me out with this?

I have a TX 6EX 2.4ghz with a Futaba R6106HF 6-CH. I plug the battery and the motor only beeps the first sound and does not beep twice then a 3rd time how it suppose to be when linked. The servos work fine. But the motor won’t spin. Tried with full throttle and 0% didn’t work.

Any help please.

Review - SkyRC D100 V2 Balance Charger - I like it a lot ;-)

I have used the SkyRC D100 V1 Balance Charger for approx. 2.5 years now.
It has been a fantastic charger ;-)
So why did I get the V2 Charger?
Well, I have used my V1 a lot for the past 2.5 years and now the Stop Button is getting a bit problematic.
I have to depress the Stop Button in just the right spot to get it to actuate.
I suspect the Printed Circuit Board is worn under that button.
So, I purchased the V2 and I'm going to contact SkyRC Support and try to get a replacement Printed Circuit Board for the V1.
In the next episode of "The Pilot's Lounge" I will let you know my experience with SkyRC Support.
I like the V2 even better than the V1 and it has some additional feature not found in the V1.

The FT Seaduck has had an amazing journey. Built a few years ago from a Flitetest speed build kit. Once assembled I made my way out to our airfield to do a maiden flight. I was super excited to fly it but at the same time I was also battling a sinus infection and I had forgot my camera. It wouldn't have been a good filmed flight anyways due to me hacking and coughing every 2 seconds. The actual maiden went well though. And it seems after that everything happened. Wife was pregnant, hospital visits, baby was born (early), more hospital visits...well you know how those things go. And with all this, the plane has pretty much sat untouched.

So once things started to slow down a little bit, I teamed up with my father-in-law to get the Seaduck back out and add some color. Paintjob turned out pretty good and now here we are finally getting the plane some more airtime and filmed this time. Below is the "sort of" maiden (2nd flight). Had a bumpy landing, but the rest of the flight was pretty good.

it's been a while sinds I did a build-series, and in this case part of the reason was getting some cool new products in for review
Sooo.. the aim for this build is a high quality version of the fun I had with the LDARC 200GT.. a very light 5" quad... I will be building a 6S quad though, and it will have quite a bit more Punch

Let's start this story with an overview of the components I'll use

I have a blog for a top battery door for the original Timber but this is for the Turbo Timber. It might work for the original Timber but you are on your own.

I’ve had no structural problems with this TT mod. I’ve had about 100 flights and with no crashes it has held up. If you crash or damage the model in any way the whole aircraft must be inspected and fixed before the next flight. In my experience most flyers and especially beginners try and fly with a damaged model without fixing the crash damage. Then they blame their crashes on the models design. Enough Soap Box. The TT has 4 carbon fiber tubes that connect the motor mount to the main cabin area. The surrounding foam supports the tubes and acts as a wind fairing. By cutting away the top surface of the fairing the tubes are not compromised.
The top cowl and windshield are cut away with a new small size box cutter. Remove the ESC and any light wires to eliminate accidentally cutting those wires. See pics

No, really!

Well, ok. Maybe not, but it did come home with me. "It" is a well-used Seagull Models Space Walker II complete with an O.S. Max .55 two-stroke and a full set of Spektrum digital servos.

I've seen this plane on a number of occasions at the field and I know it to be a great flying model. Unfortunately, the original owner is now in assisted care. A member and the man's daughter sold off his entire collection via Craigslist...except for this poor Space Walker II. No one even made an offer.

You can see in the photo below my resurrected The Wings Maker Wingman II which prompted the member to ask whether or not I wanted to take home the glow-powered Space Walker. I tend not to say no to el freebos. I recognized Flik from "A Bug's Life" on either side of the fuselage as well as the pilot busts including the rear seat passenger with a chunk taken out of her helmet; I knew right away which model this was.

Pretty it is not. I described it to a friend as an "ugly little spud." The landing gear has been reinforced rather crudely and the red covering on the fuselage repaired equally crudely. One windshield is missing and the other is broken. Parts? Uh-uh. Not available. Other than that, it's all there with a full set of servos and a $180 engine in like-new condition. The flight battery is shot, but it took enough of a charge to allow me to test the workings. I have two new Hitec receivers which are digital compatible and I've been looking for an excuse to use one. This would be that excuse!

The fuel tank is in good shape and it naturally needs new tubing throughout. Fuel filters were present not only on the line going to the carb, but on the pressure and fill lines as well.

It's so complete that it just might have moved to the top of my project list. More to come.

Finnish Aerobatics Championships were held this year at Malmi airport in Helsinki. And as it was pretty close to us we went to watch the Advanced class with my son for some time. Actually I haven't ever before seen real aerobatic flying in competition.There was also gathering of US muscle cars & sports cars at the same time.

Malmi airport was first airport in Helsinki, but now the city is trying to claim its land for building houses, despite the old airport buildings having historical value and the airport being the only place near Helsinki supporting flying training and recreational flying.

Lately I have been having a lot of fun flying electric ducted fan, with my RBC Mig 15, which I have been flying a lot lately and really enjoying. It even doesn't seem so fast any more!

I decided to resurrect my old RC Lander ARF foam Grumman Cougar, to compliment the Mig (well, maybe!). The model was overweight with all those fancy metal retracts and heavy and inefficient Lander fan. Model only had 3 or 4 flights before I gave up on it.

Ripped out the retracts and their mounts along with the nose gear steering servo. The model will be bungee launched. Keeping the rudder servo though as a working rudder will be nice. Also unceremoniously ripped out the Lander fan unit. This will be replaced with a mongrel fan made using the shroud from a Chinese Wemotec knockoff 70 mm fan, but using a genuine Wemotec Mini Fan 480 rotor which I have lying around at present. Also lying around unused is a HET 2W 20 motor which go into the mix.

Reworked the ducting using added in foam to smooth things out airflow wise and have glued the wing onto the fuselage instead of having it held on with bolts which never really held thing rigid and were heavy too. Some photos below of my progress along with the before shots from when the model was new.

I'll keep adding to this blog until the model is finished and flying.

Normally, I tend to modify the stock decals on my kits, but I really like the looks of the FunRay decals.

Also, I hope the design is thought out and will be good for visibility.

The sheet is of xcellent quality and easy to apply, even the big ones on the wings went on smoothly.
