The bench-flying shot after the wing rod was cut to size.... Please ignore the messy shop! -

The gear doors were missing. First mask off the perimeter with packing tape. -

Then cut a mylar to fit the inside. I painted this, but since the pressure with nothing, it didn't stick (duh!). -

Fit some 1/16" balsa. -

And a layer of 1/64" ply... 3 layers of glass, 2 Inside and middle) of 3oz for structure, 1 outside on the ply of 1oz for finish. -

Sandwich all that, and another (oversized) mylar on the outside of the fuse. -

Inside mylar. Needs to be pushing out....Hmmmm.... -

Two F3F planes worth of ballast should do something!

I start by removing the stickers, and applying them to a piece of clean mylar for saving them to be re-applied. Carefully cut and peel back the shrink tube. -

Then slide off the clear plastic sleeve. -

This particular battery shouldn't have made it through QA. The notch in the mylar wrap is supposed to be on the end with the main power wires. First one I've seen like this! -

Peel off the blue tape and save next to the Hyperion label on the mylar. -

Find the end of the mylar, and peel it open, exposing the wire end of the pack. Just tuck it out of the way for now.I use a clamp to gently hold the battery on my bench. -

Slice carefully through the first layer of Kapton tape. Don't arc the contacts! I slice right down the middle with a sharp #11 exacto. -

I cut off the main power wires (one at a time!), or it takes MUCH MORE heat to unsolder the wires. -

Main and 2 of the balance tap wires off the pack....

A little oil and a little fitting on/off will help to make the slip fit less troublesome in the servo pocket of the wing. -
Views: 727
I polished the wipers a little for smooth motion inside the pockets. -

This is what it all looks like assembled outside the wing. Note the holes are "back" on the hold down blocks. -

Another view. A small grub screw pinches the brass stud that screws into the output shaft. That keeps the RDS shaft attached.

It's not exactly subtle; nope, it screams, "RED!" I should be able to see it. Bottom red/white stripes. -

Flaps are HUGE! Hinges work great right from the start, and the wipers fit well. -

Flaps and ailerons take the screw in brass horns. -

Carbon is already laid into the servo bays. I had to lay in my own carbon patch on my ARIS.... -

Tails have no wipers; no biggie, tape will make a lightweight wiper if I really want one. Tails are light, 34g each. -

Nice hardware kit that doesn't need substitutions. Except for the screws in the tow hook, I like socket heads there. -

These little 2mm links are super stiff; I think they are stainless or some other high-quality metal. Even have a double flat on them! -

Ooops! Forgot to show what the underside looks like; I will be able to see this, I think!

The plane comes with almost everything you'll need to assemble it. The wire extensions are even included for the fuse and wing! -

You'll get 4 of these VERY COOL servo frames/output arm bearings. Awesome idea to support the output shaft! -

The kit also has a pre-cut servo tray made for DS3421 JR servos. -

10 ballast slugs, 1.300 KG total, or 46 oz! -

Here is the battery I'll use: 4 x CP1300 Sub-C NiCads. Able to fast charge if need be, and should have no voltage drop under load.

Servo tray. 1/8"ply, I cut gear holes first, then "plugged" them with balsa. Bagged with 6.0oz bi-carbon. Holes to be re-opened. -

Servo mock-up. Digital HS5245 for the elevator, and just a HS85BB for the rudder. -

This is my battery mock-up, that I went with. -

Any configuration can be tried. 7/8" diameter dowel is the same size as sub-C cells. -

Tray mock up in fuse. I used 3M 5200 Marine Adhesive/Sealant to bond the tray to the fuse. Good stuff! -
