This weekend was again “meh”. Wind was fairly light. Five of us were on the winch on the Westside. Thermals were great in the morning, not so great in the afternoon. Four other members were on the East side working the slope with intermittent thermals. They were strong enough to keep Larry L’s Gulp up. Both groups ended up at the East slope by 12:30. We played on the light slope winds till closing (2pm) and then 3 of us headed out for a lunch.
Praying for fall winds

I couldn't make it up this weekend. Luckily our fearless Amos made it up and took some shots and sent me a report. Here's Amos's unabridged report:

"Mike, today was a complete shutout. I got there about 9:45 there was no wind at all. I stopped off at the NE bowl then drove over to the East side from there I went to the SE bowl and found Bill. We talked for awhile and decided to go back to the East slope. Amadeao, and Hugo were there. Two more guys showed up Buck and Jim. I took a few shots, nothing exciting. I did get some nice reflection shots though, the water was like a mirror. I left just before noon to watch the Hurricanes and Florida State game. At least I got a little excitement today. :-) Hope your day was better.
See you next week.
Take care and be safe,
Amos"

Also several of the "boys" headed up to Ocala for our sponsored FSS #4 contest this weekend. They had a great time and actually placed ......who hoo!

Just when I thought we’d seen our worst sloping days for the summer, along came this Saturday. I don’t believe I saw any wind. Maybe a passing thermal generated wind, but no steady breeze whatsoever. I know a few diehards went to the SE bowl, per the wind predictions. I myself went straight to the Westside and the winch. Since I didn’t bring a “winchable” plane I spent most of my time running the retriever and taking photos. Finally, our misery was ended by a passing thunderstorm and we all headed down early to the restaurant.

PS Amos contributed to the photos this week.....thanks Amos!...Continue Reading
