I have been wanting to build something CNC/3D printer like machine that wouldn't be dangerous and still be fun. You know, just to see if I could do it. After seeing an EggBot in Baltimore at the Science Center over the summer, I decided to start there. Here is the result.

Since my Nano CPX is brushless now, I have been flying idle up. It took a little adjustment, but I liked it enough to try it on my SR. I really like the way both respond while flying them idle up. I might have to go over my 450 3D and get it ready for actual flight this weekend. I did try and fly the 450 out of the box using all the settings recommend for the DX6i, but it really didn't feel right when spooling up. So much for BNF, but I will get it.

I have also been dabbling with CNC and 3D printing because they are just fun. Recently I have been using acrylic because I had two large sheet sitting in the basement from back when I was going to make my own computer case but never got around to it. It turns out acrylic is pretty easy to cut with the right blades and I even used a tap and die on them to create parts held together by screws. The only thing I don't have is a band or scroll saw. Yesterday I was with my father-in-law, a great authority on all things tools, and I asked him should I invest in a scroll saw or band saw. He went on about how he never uses the scroll saw that a friend gave him and how it just takes up space. Suddenly he said "follow me" and I went out to his workshop with him. He gave me a nice looking 18" scroll saw.

When I got home, I made some space on a bench for it and tried it out. It was a little rough, so I went over it and tightened a few parts and put a little oil on it and then it worked like new. I don't know what blade it came with, but it cut through acrylic like butter leaving an almost factory edge. The only problem it the bellow was broken, so I looked up "Hegner Scroll Saws" to find parts and damn are they expensive. I am definitely going to keep this one and hopefully some day pass it on to my son.
