I'm glad to say I finally got my electric conversion balsa trainer (a Hangar 9 Easy 2) up in the air for its maiden flight. This counts as the largest most powerful plane I have ever flown...most of my flight experience is from flying the micro sized planes. Overall I think the flight went well with no major issues. Here's a video of the maiden:

Hangar 9 Easy 2 - Maiden Flight - Electric Conversion - (Project: MU111470) (8 min 12 sec)

I did come in a little hot for the landing mainly b/c I didn't know what my battery situation was like and I just wasn't used to the plane's speed yet. But the good news is, even despite the landing incident, there was no damage. But yeah overall, I had a good time with the speed! And I'm going to try and get some more flights in with it before it gets too cold.

I noticed my blog had taken some detours here recently and I forgot to post about my other planes. For this entry I will cover the Parkzone micros...the J3 Piper Cub and the T28.

First off, these planes are about as special to me as Teddy is, and I posted them together in this blog for a special reason. See, during that month period that I had lost Teddy, an extremely generous RCG member here apparently had been following my posts and wanted to help me out. So he basically sent me these 2 planes at no charge.

The Piper Cub was basically Teddy's much smaller cousin/brother. Flew extremely easy and was also a 3 channel just like Teddy. I flew him a lot during that period that Teddy was missing.

The T28 was my first ever experience with a low wing type and it became quite the challenge for me to fly. To say I beat the crap out of it, would be an understatement. BUT, I did eventually get the hang of it and actually it's a fun little plane to fly. Very quick and I love the maneuverability of it.

After about a year of frustrations with my Dynam, I set out to find someway to get me up in the air quickly. I was trying to avoid becoming too frustrated with the hobby, So, I figured to try and look for a good beginner plane that could get at least get more than a few feet off of the ground and actually practice with while I repaired the Dynam.

After some research, I went against my original thoughts and feelings and decided on the Hobbyzone Champ. "Toy" or not, it got plenty of great reviews and seemed to be a great choice...and it wasn't too pricey. Once I received the Champ, I got everything set up and took about 20 minutes to charge the flight battery and then it took it down to the local park to try it out. So I maidened it the same day I received it. One awesome thing about the Champ:

Everything is all there ready to go in the box. No assembly of the plane is required. Just put batteries in the transmitter/controller and batteries in the little quick charger, charge up your flight battery, and go fly.

The maiden of my Champ went excellent. I'm pretty sure I just hand launched it. Once in the air, the plane was super easy to control, and it had a very natural tendency to self right itself when in a turn plus it seemed to glide well. A very easy flyer and very relaxing compared to what I was experiencing with the Dynam.

And since the Champ sort of renewed my faith and confidence I knew that I was now screwed. Meaning I was now going to be...Continue Reading
