I LOVE engines from the 1980's. That is the decade I started in the hobby and a good time of my life. Not to mention that some of the highest quality engines, in my opinion, were being manufactured during that time. I am fortunate enough to have acquired a 120 four stroke from each of the major players in the glow engine market of that time, Enya, Saito, and OS. Coincidentally each of these engines was introduced in 1983 five years before I entered the hobby. The Enya R120-4c, the Saito FA-120S DP, and the OS FS-120.

Each of these jewels was purchased for $100 ea avg. That in and of itself is simply amazing. Each needed some TLC which I was more than happy to provide. Bearings, cleaning, gaskets, a few other miscellaneous parts here and there. Each runs great and has a happy 'forever' home!

I have been looking for one of these for some time, excess of 1 year or more. I have seen a few, missed a few. Finally while scouring the back pages of the engines classifieds I find this engine. I inquire if it is still available and get a positive response. Seventy five dollars later a deal is made. Payment sent, and the wait begins. Now granted I will jump on many a four stroke engine under the $100 mark, but scoring this specimen even though it was engine only had me smiling. I mean I have seen a few NIB versions for well over $200.

A bit of history first. This engine was introduced to the market in 1983. This particular year was an interesting one for OS and four stroke engine lovers. It featured 3 different designs of four stroke engines! This one, which at the time, was the first and ONLY slip rocker 4 stroke engine from OS. The other two were the FS-90 which featured the rear rocker design like the Enya engines. Lastly the FS-61 was also released and this most looks like the standard OS 4 stroke design.

The day it arrived I tore into the box anxious to see my latest score. Granted it is a 30+ year old engine and it showed a bit of time passage but all in all it was in very good condition. The bearings felt smooth and the compression was monstrous! It was in good enough condition to run like it came, and that is exactly what I did! It ran pretty well but I felt it still needed some internal inspection and possibly new bearings. I have several videos attached here. The first is my initial Quick Look at the engine and the second is the Box To The Bench run of the engine. Several more videos will be posted as I disassemble the engine.

Those of you who read my blog on a regular basis will know that I recently purchased an ASP FT-160 twin cylinder 4 stroke engine. Well as this addiction goes, and it is an addiction, I stumbled across another really sweet deal on a twin cylinder engine. Now I have had 3 twins prior to the ASP and they were Saito FA-80T and two Saito FA-90T engines. I flew them both in airplanes, a scratch built Cloud Dancer 60 and a Value Hobby Easy Stik 60. Both engines flew these airplanes very well and I had a ton of fun with them. And then for some still unknown reason, I sold them. Initially I was ok with this decision but as time passed I began to really regret doing this.

That brings me to the latest twin I purchased, a Saito FA-100T. Well at least now I have had three different Saito twins displacements. This one is a real beauty too! I really hope I don't get to a point where I part with either this or the ASP because they are both fantastic! Check out the last video that I made of this engine. It is now oiled up and back in the box. I am working on building an airplane and I do not need further distractions.... LOL
