Just finished my 66'' long (1.7meter) Bombardier CRJ-200! I used 3 views, card model plans, depron foam, cf and balsa to complete the build and she has two of the 64mm EDO Don's wicked EDF setups with one 4S 5200 50C battery.

I also added E-flite retracts, a scale vane flap system and vinyl graphics from Callie's Graphics. Full build thread in the airliner section.

Here are my three RC airliners I built (one still in progress) over the past year. The DC-6 is from a short kit and the DC-9 and SA-227 Metroliner are scratch-built with depron and balsa from card model plans

Hi, I maidened my 60'' DC-6B last June and got the decals on a few weeks later. I modeled her after Everts Air Cargo's N151 (Anchorage, Alaska). Everts is the only company in North America still flying DC-6s for revenue! I also have a long build thread here on RCG.

Saw the Super Guppy land at Boeing Field today. I wish I brought my HD camera but I am sure there are plenty of videos on YouTube (there was a ton of people there).

This plane looks so bizarre especially in person! I wanted to stay and watch them open the front up but they needed to refuel it first so it wolden't tip over and that takes awhile. I took some hipster shots from my phone

Making some good progress on my DC-6B Freighter conversion in Everts Air Cargo colors. Check out the build thread in the scale electric forum.

I'm modifying the kit for flaps, E-Flite 10-15 retracts. I also made sheeted inner nacelle frames instead of the stick frame assembly to give extra strength as I am using electric motors.

Still some buttoning up to do with the graphics, paint, wheels and cowl. I just finished applying the last coat on the cowl and I would have had the excellent graphics by Callie done if I hadn't dropped the whole white tail #/stripe on itself right after I pulled off the backing

The plane is a Pat Tritle Cessna 180 short kit done up in Jim Tweto's N91361 featured on Discover Channel's excellent Flying Wild Alaska TV series (I heard they are filming season 3!).

I have full build videos on my YouTube channel along with all the specs/electronics.

I still don't know while I added the Blue Heron clip in the beginning but they have killed a number of fish from our pond I wonder if anyone will get the Cliff Mass reference...

I have used the Aerostar for almost everything from converting it to electric, flying it off water with floats, putting skis on for snow to attatching four different camera on for aerial video. It has been a great plane but it dosn't always snow and even though there are a couple of lakes nearby, I only get a few opportunities to fly off them during the summer. So instead of letting it collect dust I decided to do one more modifcation - bush performance.

I cut out the original long and slim strip ailerons and replaced them with some new ones that have a longer width. I used a bigger width because I only have room for them on the second outer half of the wing. I then got some balsa blocks and carved the flaps out and attatched them. The hardest part about the wings was creating the new balsa spars for the hinging. Once I finished the wing, I took out the orignal trike gear and got a Du-Bro .40-.60 size gear and attatched some 3 1/2'' Lite-Flite wheels. The gear screws into the same place the floats attatch to.

After completing the main gear, I beefed up the area above the gear attatchment point, the battery floor by epoxing some blue (colored red) foam on top and adding an extra ply spacer. The next hard part was the tailwheel. I bought an Ohio Superstar 'Wheel Leaf Tiny 4-8 lbs' and attatched it. Then, I got an HS-82MG servo, cut out a hole for it and screwed it in.

After making the connection for the steering, I got a CC 10A UBEC and spliced it into the input...Continue Reading

Been awhile since I made a blog entry!

Last September, I made some 'dummy' (non-funtional) skis for my P. Tritle PC-6 Porter. They are built and sheeted with balsa and after some sanding I put some aluminum monokote on. The overall shape is ok but in real life there are more curves and edges that I was to lazy to replicate

Anyways, I epoxied the inside edge of the skis to the backside of the landing gear strut attachment point so it is level with the wheels. Then I added some fishing wire attatchemtents on the front, back and across the middle of the skis and they attatch to various points on the fuselage. Again, not the best looking but when its flying it looks great!

My winter project flies! Even though my PC-6 came in 6 oz heavier then Pat Tritle's (this is his short kit) it still flies veeery soft and slow. The proped down Suppo motor offers perfect scale power with 40 degree full-power climb-outs similar to a real Porter. Now that I know it flies I am going to fix the wing struts and add all the scale details (spinner, landing gear foam covering, cockpit, dummy skis etc.) Go here for more info: https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...328627&page=15

If I had the right hex wrench (I had the next size smaller and larger) then everything on the ground would have gone smoother. I forgot to adjust the retracts so that they are completly locked when in the down position before we left. No one else was at the field because of the cold so we just went for it.

This plane is relatively EASY to fly if you have good experience with managing sport planes. She came in really heavy at 9 lbs 2 oz because the camera weighs 6 oz. but I honestly didn't think it felt heavy. Low rates felt like high rates. The few approaches I was able to attempt were high and fast because of the wind and I was worried about all the warnings about how these things stall so I don't really have an idea on how to land yet other then I do need to keep the motor on until touchdown. And I shoulden't be doing belly landings LOL.

I will say the maiden went good but not great. Here is the video:

As you can see the model seemed very tail heavy even though I balanced it out right on the main wing spar where the manual states to. I landed it, took one lead weight out of the back and took it up again. Still tail heavy! This time It wasn't as bad so I decided to just stick alot of down trim in and land a little early (down trim and a tail heavy plane causes drag).

Even though the model was tail heavy it flew great! Rolls, loops, immelmans, spilt-s's you name it! This model is a floater and does not fly very fast due to its semi-symetrical airfoil. The motor setup I use gives it unlimited vertical but I only need 1/2 throttle or less to cruise around. Landings are a breeze and as you can expect this light Four-Star hanges on ground effect for awhile! Stalls? Well it just slowly pitches downward! All in all, this model flies as you would expect any famous sport plane to

Now more about the 'cg' issue I am having. I took a 3rd flight up with a bigger and heavier 3000 mah 3S and set the trim to neutral. Still tail heavy! So I landed and took the weights out of the tail and then what up again. Tail heavy but not as bad as the last time. But this is ridculous, the model is way nose heavy on the CG machine. I thought it may be a aerodynamic issue so I checked the angle of attack on the horizontal stab and the wing....all are perfect as per the plans. I expected it to be nose heavy with the bigger motor and battery I was using!

Any thoughts?

What a fun and easy sport build!

Here is my setup:

Motor: HeadsUpRC Power-Up 15 sport (1000kv).
ESC: Hobbyking Mystery 40amp.
Batteries: Zippy/Lightmax 3S 2100mah 35Cs (JUST fit!)
Props: 10X7, 10X8, 11X7, 11X8 e-wood and a 11X8.5. Maiden will be with a 11X7 and I don't think I will try the 10'' props.
Servos: HS-81s for the rudder/elevator and HS-65HBs for the ailerons.
RX: Spektrum AR6200.


Du-Bro 40 size tailwheel bracket (broke the stock wire)
Du-Bro 1'' 60 size tailwheel
2oz. of lead velcroed behind the exit cooling hole for balancing
Quick and Simple 808 E-bay Keychain Cam Mount inside the cockpit

Building Notes:

Check and keep checking that your wing is straight!

I covered the cowling instead of going through the hassle of find a Cub Yellow paint.

Black/White Checkerboard UltraCote on the bottom of the wings for some VERY nice contrast!

Use at least 2.5'' wheels (I use Du-Bro lightweight) for grass. Also glue those securing nuts on so the wheel dosan't fly off!

It flew! Ailerons were sluggish and the 11X7 prop was underpowered but it flew! Two min. after the first takeoff I decided to land and check things. I made an OK landing with two bounces but when I throttled back up the motor came off the firewall mount. This was because I forgot to select soft start on the ESC so the motor started jerking everywhere. Anyway, we fixed that and later in the evening I got three more flights in with an APC 11X8.5 prop that produced much more power and speed. For the 4900 mah Rhino pack I had a 4 min flight reducing the voltage to 15.87 and on the 5000 mah Moxie pack I had a 7 min flight reducin the pack to 15.39. That means I can probally expect up to 10 min of mild flying which is fine with me. This was probally the last good summer day weatherwise before we get hit with winter so its going to be awhile until I can fly the Tiger 2 again. In the meant time I will add the decals and racing stripes! Please watch the video (HD is the best) I made and I attached some pictures:

My Easy Glider is (was) not a very popular subject on my Youtube channel but more of a 'side thing'. It was my first aileron glider but it suffered many setbacks. First back in Early March I burnt alot of the motor mount (which is the crappiest mount for a motor ever) out. Then later in march I forgot the wing spar and used a freind's EasyStar spar (stupid huh?) and nosed her in after some serious wing flexing. The nose has always been bent 4 degrees off since then. I play baseball so my hand-launches suck so I crashed it a few more times. And then I stripped the motor out and towed it and boy was that fun!

Overall I am sad to lose it because it was such a nice flying plane when it streched its wings. Videos!:

I had my first RC flight here back in 2007 when I was 10 years old. The Aerostar had a glow engine on it back then!
