I put a stripped Gopro Hero 7 black on my Nanolongrange V2b design (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4818009). I was not sure if it will fly as it got pretty heavy at 131g. Still It worked out and now I'm pretty stoked. I think I can make it even 15g lighter. So stay tuned!

Here is a short video on how I build a 1s 21700 battery for a Nanolongrange FPV drone. I prefer spot welding over soldering, it is way more robust. Compared to 18650 you will get a slightly longer flight time. In the last third of your flight you will experience a stronger decrease in performance as the weight of the bigger cell makes the drone about 20% heavier.

Typically, single cell nanolongrange builds are powered by a 18650 Li-ion battery. However, I tried a 21700 battery which is around 20g heavier. I expected my NanolongrangeV2b to fly worse. However, the first minutes of flight with a 21700 cell the drone felt way more powerful. Only when the voltage came down to around 3.3V the performance decreased significantly. Next-gen RC system based on LoRa tech. I prefer this of over ELRS as it is plug'n play. I also dig the VTX features which allows you to change VTX output and channel over the transmitter.

This is the 3rd iteration of my Nanolongrange design and beefier than V2. It allows you to fit standard sized tinywhoop boards and an external VTX with a step up module. On +500mW FPV range is no issue anymore. I strongly recommend you to print the frame with PETG, it is very robust although slightly heavier than PLA+ (2g). The best GPS for this drone is in my opinion from a Gopro (I have tested Beitian 180 and 220, a small Goteck and the new NamelessRc tiny GPS) which can be salvaged from broken Hero 6,7 and 8 cameras. I found the pinout of the GoPro GPS module on the internet. As it weighs only around 2.5g I thought it's perfect for my Nanolongrange V2 build. Imo it is not faster than the Beitian Bn180/220, but also not slower at half the weight! You can get under 100g AUW with external VTX and full sized AIO board. Also it should be pretty easily available as a lot of you did a naked Gopro mod.

I'm switching to IRC ghost. ELRS is too much of a hassle for me. Ghost is plug'n play. The zepto receiver is currently the smallest Rx in the line up. 0.35g without antenna and smaller than a fingernail. Perfect for my 1s babytooth.

With all the rules restricting fun with drones it's about time to go bigger and lighter. Here is my take on a 5" FPV drone. Currently I'm under 236 grams using a BetaFPV SMO4k and a small Tattu 4s 450mAh Lipo. However, I'm planing on switching to Gaoneng 3s 1100mAh (130C). The frame is a Gatehunter X by Dave_C_FPV, motors are 2004 3150kv by Brotherhobby.

How to use a spot welder (3 min 36 sec)

This simple and cheap spot welder can be used for welding 18650/26650/32650 lithium ion (Li-Ion) batteries.
- System voltage: 12V-14.6V
- Working current: 90-150A
- Suggested battery:
1. 20-45ah Lead-acid battery with good performance and small internal resistance
2. 3.5-5.5ah 45C 3S aeromodel lithium battery pack
3. 30-35ah capacity 18650 battery pack
This circuit with a 12V battery will become an energy storage spot welding machine for welding nickel pieces such as lithium batteries and nickel-chromium batteries. Different modes allow you to weld nickel strips with thickness up to 0.1MM-0.15mm.
