You can add Fly By telemetry to your Spektrum AR630 receiver by adding a TM1000. Unfortunately, the TM1000's are discontinued but I do see them for sale on eBay now and then. Similar to the way a AR636 worked with a TM1000, the Forward Programming in the AR630 interferes with the telemetry in TM1000. So I added a Hobby King receiver controlled switch to turn the TM1000 on and off as needed. So you fly with the TM1000 on and shut it off when you need to make programming changes on the ground.

The wiring on this is very simple. A Y servo cable plugs into your available port. You plug the HK switch and a modified servo cable into the Y. You remove the white signal wire from the modified servo cable as shown. Also on that modified servo cable you cut the red wire and solder the two wires of the switch there. When that is done you just plug the other end of the modified servo cable into the TM1000 and it’s all set other than assigning the channel to a switch.

Setting up AS3X on an AR8360 Receiver with an iX20

This is the short hand version of following John Adam’s AR637T videos with some added extras I use on my plane. Substitute as needed for your plane. I will add screen copies when I get time. I wanted something simple to follow instead of referring to the videos.

The plane has Flaps & uses Crow. Uses 3 channels & trim switches to control the gyro gain in roll, pitch and yaw independently

Receiver Forward Programming Flight Mode Channel is Aux4
Gyro Gain Channels are on X+1, X+2, X+3
RTrim - Elevator compensation adjust when Crow is on
LTrim - Adjust gain of ailerons AS3X gyro axis, Gain channel X+1
LTTrim - Adjust gain of elevator AS3X gyro axis Gain channel X+2
RTTrim - Adjust gain of rudder AS3X gyro axis Gain channel X+3

I use 3 receiver Flight Modes:
FM1: no gyro
FM2: Rate gyro On
FM3: Rate gyro On and Crow deployed

Setup the transmitter
Create a new model in your iX20
Bind the new model to the AR8360 receiver
Model Setup/Aircraft Type choose your wing settings
Here I’m using 2 Ailerons, 2 Flaps and Normal Tail

Model Setup/Menu Setup
Channel count to 12 or above
Set XPLUS to On

Model Setup/Channel Assign/ set Aux4 to Switch B
Set all other channels to Inhibit

Model Setup/Flight Mode Setup set Switch 1 to switch B

Model Setup/Trim Setup choose how you want the gyro gain switches
to act. Common on all FM’s or different on each FM. Set each Trim switch you are...Continue Reading

Possible reasons Spektrum receivers won't start up

AS3X Related
• The plane control surfaces are not at center as in when you have Flap/Crow/elevator comp active.
• There is excessive trim on a control surface.
• The plane is not on a level surface(Not all receivers).
• The airplane is not stable. Wind shaking the plane can stop the gyro from initializing. I have found that with my AR8360T receiver, I cannot hold the plane still enough to have it start up. The plane must be on the ground.

RF Related
• The receiver is not bound or has lost it's bind to the transmitter.
• Bind plug was left in the receiver.
• The transmitter model is bound to a different aircraft.
• The receiver battery is dead.
• The transmitter is too close to the receiver(4 feet minimum).
• All required satellite receivers are not installed and bound.
• The satellite receivers are plugged into the wrong ports.
• One of the bound remote satellite receivers got disconnected.
• Don't try to connect to your receiver in a poor environment, such as a metal shed,
or on bleachers, or in the back of your pickup truck, or with the antennas against the ground (common glider mistake).
• Your transmitter(iX12 & iX20) automatically placed itself into "Tx Auto Sleep".
Here is another that looks like a receiver did not start or the reason some say their receiver lost bind when it did not. Some transmitters(iX12 & iX20)

This is one method of setting up Crow on a Spektrum AR9350 receiver and a compatible Spektrum radio, DX9, iX12, iX20 and more. This method of adding Crow is only applicable to the AR9350, AR7350 and the AR636. Although there may not be enough available channels on a AR7350 and AR636. Other Spektrum receivers only need to mix the flaps into the left aileron to work(FLP > LAL).

This information came from RCG member simages. He dug thru the long history of this receiver and figured out how to get this to work.

In the AS3X app, set up the AR9350 as a Flaperon wing type and normal tail type.

In the AS3X app, on the Port Assignment page, set Gear to Port 5 & Aux1 to port 7

This is a mini How To on using Google Drive with an iX12 to Export models and Import models and model photos.

Google Drive is a virtual hard drive that you access from the internet. As of this writing, they give you 15 Gig of storage for free. There are programs/apps to access Google Drive from almost all devices.

If you're tired of messing with SD Cards in your iX12, you can use Google Drive (and other clouds) to replace your Import and Export needs. Once I got messages on my iX12 that said I shouldn't leave the SD card in it, I knew it was time to bail out with them. It was just a matter of time until I forgot to remove it or lost it.

One caveat on this method. My iX12 slows appreciably when WiFi is turned on. The Import and Export functions can take some time between screen changes. So at times you need to wait until the iX12 catches up to you.

There's a few assumptions in this How To:

Your iX12 is registered
You have WiFi working.
You already have a Google ID and are logged in.
You know the basics of getting around the Android part of the iX12.

There are so many button presses and different screens to this that I did not capture all the minutia of this process. There are times when you will have to do a little poking around and trying things to get thru this. So it's best to try this for the first time with unimportant test files.

First make sure WiFi is on and properly setup with your router.

To turn WiFi on, the easiest way inside...Continue Reading

Switch setup on a AS3000 w/iX12

I setup my first AS3000 by following Miguel's video and getting some help from him & Andy on the AS3000 thread here:

A few months went by and I had to program another AS3000. My memory is not very good and I had to watch Miguel's video again. So I decided to write up the main points for me from his video so I can more quickly repeat the process. I have another AR12310T/AS3000 waiting for me to finish building the plane.

If you can afford it, I would highly recommend going to receivers with Forward Programming. It's the way Spektrum receivers should have always been.

There is much more in Miguel's video than I cover here. These are simplified instructions and are just what I am using. Some of the other items covered in the video are using multiple gains for high and low speed flight and using 5 Flight Modes for rate gain and heading hold gain.

Miguel's video on switches is here:
Spektrum AS3000 Switch Setup Tutorial (16 min 14 sec)

The Spektrum Power Safe/AS3000 combo uses a different method to control the gyro as compared to the AR636, AR7350 & AR9350 receivers. The Forward Programming lets you do all the programming of the gyro from your DX8, DX9, iX12 and others with no PC, phone or tablet needed. However, you still need a PC & cable to register and update the receiver firmware using the Spektrum Programmer app. And you should always...Continue Reading

Dialing in Spoileron Elevator in flight with iX12

This is a method to adjust the elevator in flight when spoilerons are engaged, usually to obtain a level flight path.

Spoilerons - Ailerons go up(plane drops), elevators go up(raises plane back up)

Turn your plane and iX12 on. This assumes your control surface trims are already be set to neutral. Note here the Elevator is trimmed for level flight at -7.

Go to the Model Adjust-> Flap System screen

Pick a switch to activate the Spoilerons
Leave values for Position 0: both at zero. (Spoilerons off)
For Position 1, enter a negative value so the ailerons go up. I used -25% for this example. A greater negative number will increase the stopping power. But remember too much could cause a tip stall from going too slow.
Put approximately 1/2 of the Flap setting in Elev for Position 1. It's just a starting point. Scroll to the bottom and enter a value for speed(not shown). I used .20s

Go to Model Adjust-> Mixing and create a mix as follows:

P-Mix 1 RT>ELE : Switch D, Rate -100,-100,0% offset
Pushing the R Trim switch will move the elevator with this mix active. And will only be active with the spoilerons on.

Fly your plane and activate the spoilerons at a safe height. Adjust the R Trim elevator so that the plane flies level. Turn the spoilerons off. Fly to a landing approach and turn the spoilerons on and land the plane.

Now you want to transfer the -48 R Trim(spoilerons on) setting to the...Continue Reading
