HK Prime Jet pro - project is moving forwards ..
A little more work and the foam bits will be glued ..
It did require some thought , as one needed to re-design it for a EDF ..

Also the wing for Ripit Rev 2.? or Rev3 ( Havent decided yet )
But the wing is moving along ..
Depron and foam glued together ( laminate ) ..

Windy and warm / hot .. A whole week of it !

Those bits at the end were two big triangular balsa blocks! Rather than planing them I use my little table saw to cut them about in half and then sand them. Yes, they were THAT big.

The fin has three one and one-quarter inch holes cut with my drill press and a slight warp. What can one expect after 30+ years? I expect it will come out with a little encouragement when I cover it. Onward...

I recently purchased RealFlight 8 Horizon Hobby Edition along with a Spektrum WS1000 USB receiver. Being a big fan of Spektrum's SAFE (Sensor Assisted Flight Envelope), I wanted to pick up the only flight sim other than Phoenix that has HH planes and the SAFE stabilization included.

First I spent some time with the Spektrum WS1000. I wasn't sure what to expect out of it at first, but I learned that it's a Spektrum receiver that presents the radio channels (8 of them, as far as I can tell) to Windows as a standard game controller/joystick device.

Binding the WS1000 to the transmitter is a bit of a challenge, as you have to hold down the bind button on the WS1000 while you plug it into the USB port in order to get it into bind mode. But once you get the WS1000 into bind mode, it binds with the transmitter just like any other Spektrum receiver.

Once the WS1000 is connected, it presents the channels to Windows this way:

Throttle (Spektrum channel 1) = Y-Axis (DirectX Input: Y)
Aileron (2) = Z-Axis (Z)
Elevator (3) = X-Rotation (Rx)
Rudder (4) = X-Axis (X)
Gear (5) = Y-Rotation (Ry)
Aux1 (6) = Z-Rotation and Button 1 (button is pressed when channel is at -100%) (Rz)
Aux2 (7) = Slider and Button 2 (GetSlider(1))
Aux3 (8) = Dial and Button 3 (GetSlider(0))
Aux4 (9) does not appear to be mapped

You can see the channels in action pretty easily using the control panel in Windows. On Windows 7, go to "Devices and Printers", and you'll see one called "SPEKTRUM...Continue Reading

Not too long ago, I picked up a Hobbyzone Champ, RTF 20" wingspan airplane. I use my DX7s to fly it in the back yard. So far I have about 7.5 hours on it and am liking it alot. For me, it is the perfect back yard flier plank. Of course I love helis, but you can't beat the Champ for relaxing, 12 minute flights, tooling around in the back yard. The little ship has STOL capabilities, that means it needs very little space to take off and land in. I have fitted the model with 1.5 inch dupro bush tires, and use a welcome mat for an airstrip to take off of and then land it in the grass with the bush tires. For the snow, I've fitted a spare set of landing gear with snow skiis and take off and land on the snow. Or hand launch and land on the snow, with the skis.

This morning I was flying over the snow and the temp was 5 degrees F. My wife took a video of the champ in flight. I was doing 8's, and circuits. I flew for the normal 12 minute flight and then landed in the snow on the skis. Of course, I was wearing a wool cap and using a TX mitt :-)

Iv just done a video on this but I wanted to share some of my thoughts about the DJI Smart Controller for the Mavic 2 Series.

DJI Smart Controller For Mavic 2 - My Thoughts & Spec Walk-thorough (8 min 53 sec)

My Thoughts

Having been rumoured since the release of the Mavic 2 this RC has always been one that has divided opinion and that stands true today more than ever.

The Smart Controller is an all in one RC and built in Crystalsky 5.5” smart device similar to what we have seen with the ST16 from Yuneec and the new Herelink system from Proficnc.

It takes what DJI did with the Plus remote on the Phantom 4 series and takes it to the next level, saying this is simply the Mavic RC and Crystalsky combined is not fully true and it’s more like a Crystalsky 2.0 with many overall improvements to the OS and device performance.
The Screen is the same 1000 nits brightness we seen on Crystalsky but touch responsiveness is much improved I have been told, connectivity is plentiful with USB C for charging and firmware updates, HDMI output, USB A Output and a Micro SD Card slot.

A note that shows how the internals have been beefed up is the fact is will now play back 4K footage from the SD card and output this via HDMI in 4K, the original CS was limited to 1080P.

Buttons wise you have all the same ones from the original RC like Power,RTL,Pause, Shutter,Record and the 5D, on each corner there is the camera setting wheel and the gimbal control.

I do sincerely apologise if I gush a little , the Ganzo FireBird is simply the best Chinese made knife I have experienced to date . The firebird takes Chinese made knives to the next level and priced around $25 USD , one is simply getting a lot of knife for the money . The knife is tight , there is no slop anywhere . The carbon fibre handle feels solid and perhaps a little cold and mechanical . I thought the clip might bite my palm , but no ! Carving up a cardboard box I could barely feel the clip . Also the blade size / thickness is just right , cutting through the cardboard with little resistance . Speaking of cutting ! When I had completed the task of turning the box into strips , I tried to shave my arm . Surprise surprise , it shaved hair with no trouble at all ! Seriously ? , most other knives get quite a bit of wear on the edge and can't shave hair after carving up cardboard . I am amazed that the firebird held it's edge so well . Quite frankly this just might be one of the best Chinese made knives out there , certainly the best that has passed through my hands . I have to say , if you collect or like cheap knives . Then you really need to pony up a little more and get the firebird from Ganzo . Here is a knife that can compete with the more expensive brand name knives from Europe and the USA . If Ganzo continues to make knives like the firebird for the lower end of the $$ market , I would say...Continue Reading

Pic of the real Belgian Foka4 anno 1963 somewhere in Belgium, still wearing its world championship race number

Part 1: Prefabrication by French hobby builder Jean-Pierre Voisin

After a stupid priority choice following an unfortunate combination of events, my 4m span Fliegerland Foka 4 plummeted vertically in the ground minus its port wing during the September 2018 BiGGS meet at St-Truiden (illustrated story here) As Fliegerland was out of Foka kits for a minimum of 6 months I shopped around and had to go for a 5 meter span version which I ordered from JPV, a Normandy retired builder (he has no website). A few months before that, I saw a fellow BiGGS pilot maiden one at Pottes and the quality of flight and the model seemed very good. The weekend after the crash I got in touch with the builder and within days I order a pretty much prefabricated kit consisting of a molded fuselage, styro wings with Samba (Abachi type) sheeting over 100gr glass-fibre ready for finish, ailerons and 400mm spoilers installed. Wings and tail rigging made, wheel installed, clear canopy without frame included. Removable rudder with built-in servo installed. That is a lot of work this amateur but very capable builder delivers (halfway via a trucker) for about €1500, after 10 weeks of intense labor. Basic fuselage and foam wing cores can be ordered for less than 500 euro if desired (or for repairs).

Regarding the choices I made: I...Continue Reading

Decided to begin the New Year with a resolution to help our Eachine Wizard X220 (FrankenWiz) shed some weight! We replace the old, heavy parts with new, upgraded, lighter weight parts and "squash the frame." We start with the frame base plate and work through each step of the build in using speed-enhanced video without sacrificing important build steps. There is a "clickable" hyperlinked Table of Contents in the video description so you can "jump" to any section of the video you're interested in just by clicking on the "Time Stamp" next to the topic. Hope you will find this short 5 Inch Build Tutorial helpful in the construction of your very own FPV Racer! 👍

🐢 [4:3] FVP Flow Progression 🐢 Getting some Fresh Air

Note to self - Don't be lazy and try to re-arm after a big crash! Wanted to thrash 3" Props at altitude in 4:3 for the first time and what a rush !!! Lost a prop nut and prop in the process after thinking I had a lucky escape. Got my wings clipped :-) Anyway the Caddx Turtle V2 survived as well as the quad so all is good. Still loving flying in 4:3 rather than 16:9!
