Last time I took the whip out , I damaged the rudder ..
Don't know how / when or where , but it happened - so a bit of repair needed .
At the moment playing with the angle of attack on the wing ..

Come to a screaming halt , got my control rods . I have 0.4 / 0.5 and 0.6 to chose from and I am going with the 0.5mm
But the hold up is HK int ware house , waiting on my control horns . Cant make holes in the carbon boom till I know where to make holes and for that I need my control horns ..

Came in the Mail , one Phoenix 1600 motor glider ..
And as everyone knows ( perhaps ) the included motor bites the big one .
Recommended Batt is a 2s 1800 , but that wont get the CG done .
To get CG on the money a 3s 2200 is needed , and that battery will fry your motor .
The included motor begins to cook really well @ around 150watt ( 2s or 3s ) as the motor appears to be seriously over propped .

A new motor has been purchased , 270W 1000kv ..
I think 200W will fly the Phoenix 1600 and the extra cant hurt .

Also been playing with the Jumper T12 , lots of binding , some flying and some testing .

Update Sat afternoon ...
I was sure I had a motor somewhere ..
A Aeolian motor that was purchased by accident ...

After a search I found it ..
Aeolian 2826 KV1000

A quick 3s test with a 10x4.5 gave 7200 RPM @ 12.5A
ok

So I threw it into the Phoenix 1600 and with a 3s
6450 RPM @ 15A .. around 170Watt region . Full Throttle .
At full power the motor did get hot , but not as bad as the factory motor .
Still have a new motor on the way ,

recently saw a Brits V Germans WWII model aircraft battle - impressive. Once airborne, with height, it could have been full sized aircraft.

I have been mulling over the problems the modellers had.

1 aircraft easily kicked about by the wind.
2 aircraft can flick into a climb, turn or dive, much more quickly than a full sized aircraft.
3 aircraft batteries were large and needed recharging, daily.

My thoughts (read all three before commenting)
1 what about gyros to detect any changes to flight direction? They would need an output to control the flight control surfaces and maintain the flight path. Does anyone make these? It would give much faster flight correction than your fingers.
2 what about setting the gyros in motorised gimbals? Does anyone make these? The RC commands would go to the gimbals, to provide flight control.
3 what about using the motor to run a miniature alternator (does anyone make these?) to charge the battery, so that the battery could be tiny?

It needs a better geek than me to work this out, and to see if calibration was needed (I suspect it will not be needed, if the electronics respond quickly enough).

I suspect that, with a lot of effort, this could make model flying easier for everyone - apologies to you that are really good at it.

Unfortunately, the log was not received. Aircraft control was manual from console. Most likely, during a long flight with a large positive pitch, the autopilot tried to prevent too much pitch and accumulated data for this, and when the signal from the transmitter disappeared for a short time, it immediately brought the elevators to a decline, but since it did not work for some time, applied too much effort on the elevators. This is seen in the video. After this flight, the controller was shielded and when switching the autopilot modes, the trimmed data is zeroed. Since I did not restore the plane, I flew as follows with the Senior Super Frontier (Fig. 18 right), with a wingspan of 2.08 M and a 5 sm3 engine.

7.2 27.09.2009

Having broken one plane, I immediately wanted to break another one. The plane made 3 flights on an abandoned airstrip in the Pomyalovo village. On the third flight the plane was broken. On the first two flights the autopilot modul was not activated. There was manual control and data collection was in progress. During the second flight at the time of landing the plane hit a canister by front landing gear because the canister was forgotten exactly in the middle of the airstrip. This strike at 229 seconds is clearly visible on the black box data shown in Fig. 19.

An important part of any power system is the Battery.
For some reason this is often overlooked by Reviewers.
I perform reviews of all the Batteries I purchase to see how well they match the stated specs, what the internal resistance of the battery cells are, and how they hold up over time.
This is the initial review of the Turnigy Nanotech 3S 950mah 25C LIPO that I'm going to be using in my Mini Parkjets.
Let's see how well they stack up against the other LIPOs I use for this purpose.
I will be replacing the stock JST Connector with an XT30 Connector.
I will then be performing the Field Testing in my "Glue & Fly Series" F-22 Mini V2 and logging the remaining voltage after each test flight.

This is the Happymodel Mobula7 that is a Tiny Whoop drone with 1S and 2S Lipo power.
M7 is light, very fast and flies over 4 minutes. I just can not find any negative points on the Whoop. The Snapper7 1S Whoop was good, but M7 is much faster, more aggressive and weighs no more than the Snapper7. And if someone needs slow flying, he can fly the Mobula7 with a 1S Lipo. The changeable angle of the camera is practical. Outside you fly fast and need a steep angle of the FPV camera. Inside with slow flies one places camera completely flat. Inside, the FPV camera is sufficient. Outside, I would like a better FPV camera like the Caddx Turbo EOS2.

Last spring there were the seasonal classic Lidl hand tosen glider for just 10 .. so i decided to pick a couple of them and go the full road moding not just for RC flight.. but also for fun FPV.. to do something like a poor man's "wraith micro" mini fun plane..

I was going first to build it simple with 2/3 servos (single aileron servo) and a 1806 motor in the front.. but again i changed my mind and decided to use the "more complex but simpler" solution of using separated servos in the wings..and making it a twin motor with 2 1806 motors.. i have made allready some twin motors so the increased thrust and deleting torque ..as well as placing the motor in a more near the CG position were quite attractive.

Also i flattened the wing dihedral and inserted a carbon rod in the wing.. tail feather and fuselage belly..ailerons go in the outer part of the wing.. i saw guys doing the RC mod , not removing the dihedral and putting the ailerons in the inner flat part of the wing and the results werent much good (unless you are ok with a slow roll rate) and i wanted a fast roll

So ended up using 3 HXT500 5g servos ..2 12A ESCs with 2A bec (using only one BEC) and 2 DYS 1806-2300kv motors and using normally a 1300/1400 3S (but it will take a 1300 4S as well)

For FPV i used one Eachine TX526 i had arround doing nothing (broken connector, so resoldered another) and a runcam micro Swift2 wich has built-in OSD very helpfull to check voltage and time







after a messy maiden (due to inverted trims due to mistakes made my me during programming) once trimmed to my surprise the plane flies amazingly good .. its more stable than a wing .. trackes better .. is so much fun and maneovrable (had to dial expo for the roll).. its allready a fav for fast low altitute FPV fun

I've been out of the hobby for a quite a while. My guess is 12 years. Life got busy, hectic even. I used to enjoy getting up for work a few hours early, stopping by a nearby park and tossing out my souped up (man was it souped up) Superfly from Superfly RC (http://www.superflyrc.com). It was the favorite of all my EPP foam builds. In fact I owned 3 of em because I enjoyed tickering with the nuances of the forgiving platform. You could do just about anything with it (within acceptable parameters) and it would fly. There's so much more I wanted to do with em but as I said, time constraints choked the hobby right out of me. But there was a part of me that had burnt out on it. Probably because I jumped into the hobby with both feet and way too fast.

Oh I've tried balsa builds, but once you build em you can't make to many mods of the airframe while finding out what does and doesn't work. For me that's 75% of the fun of things. But should one of the mods not work well, you lose some if not all control and kiss smack the ground and risk abandoning all hopes of reasonable repairs. Plus balsa repairs can be time consuming. I know this from experience too.

I've toyed with a couple EPO planes, most of which are pre-built and all you do at most is slap in your own electronics and get airborne. While EPO foam is pretty strong, it's not near as forgiving as EPP. If you wreck one badly repairs are often impossible due to the fact that it shatters more than tears. I just finished refurbing this old 84" Powerhouse old timer that I got as an "attic rescue" project on a trade. It didn't look like it had ever been flown, but I didn't care much for the color scheme, so I stripped it down to the bare wood, went through the entire structure looking for any damage or failed glue joints, made a bolt-down wing retention, and covered it with Hobby King film. All-up weight is 5lbs 10oz, with a Magnum XL52 RFS four-stroke engine in the nose. The CG came out spot-on, and it flies as smooth as butter on hot toast. The flare goes on forever on landing, and I'm sure that on a good day the Powerhouse will thermal like a glider. Fun toy!

Hi everyone, thought I'd make a few blog entries to show my current RC collection: one for land vehicles 1/10 and larger, one for land vehicles smaller than 1/10, one for boats, and one for flying RCs.

First up is LAND VEHICLES: Company name, vehicle model, where I bought it from, and anything interesting about it. Trying to do most recent to oldest, but may get slightly out of order

Thunder Tiger MT4 G3: Purchased from a member here on RCG. 4x4 4s 1/8 truck...it is huge and powerful. With the rainy weather I've had lately I haven't been able to run it, but the tire marks in the basement attest to the power

HPI Bullet Flux ST: Traded with a member here on RCG for it. 1/10 scale 3s capable 4x4 stadium truck. On the smaller for side for 1/10, but very fast and tough. It jumps very well!

ECX Ruckus: purchased from a member here on RCG. 1/10 2wd brushed monster truck. Currently have it set up for running on sand at the lake house. Haven't been able to test it on sand yet, but should be fun.

ExceedRC Maxstone: 1/5 (yes, 1/5 scale!) rock crawler. Purchased used on eBay. 4x4, MOA (motor on axle, so 2 brushed motors), runs on a 2s lipo and gets close to a hour runtime. Literally climbs up my front porch stairs! I haven't been able to use this crawler to its full extent with the weather/work/school, but I have big plans for it. Going to add rear steer, better servos, lights, etc. Stay tuned for this one.
