looking for an owners manual for the ENYA 60 4C. When accelerating rapidly from idle to high speed I am getting a bad clatter. Have been told that either the idle or top end is set too lean, but would like to have an owners manual to refer to. Also, I understand that ENYA 4c engines run better on 10% or 5% nitro, any thoughts on this?

I admit it…I, like many, was once a slave to motor calculation programs; all of ‘em! moto-calc, p-calc, ez-calc, fan calc, etc, etc …and can you blame me? I mean, how many people can really go in to the hobby shop, pick up a motor, and through some gonzo form of osmosis, know that ‘this motor’ is the ‘perfect motor’ for one’s application. Even if you know the KV/Resistance/Shaft/Stator/Can Length/ and whether the material the magnets were made of was mined in New Jersey or the Mountains of Tibet; is it the right motor?

So what do we do? We download the programs, pay the 10-30 dollar fee, and begin punching in numbers to see what will be the final result of our latest power-system-brainchild. After all, “it calcs at 700 watts of output at only 22amps, right?” WATCH OUT!!!

How many times have you seen a similar event play out like this on the boards:

User 1 “Hey, I got a great setup! It’s a (insert motor here) running on insert (battery system here) and its giving me (insert performance).

User 2 “WHAT?!?! That’s impossible! I am calc-ing this and it says you will only be (insert calc-ed performance results) and pulling (insert watts/amps data).

If you have not guessed yet…I used to be User #2….Calcs were ‘god’, as far as I was concerned.

Here is the skinny. Calcs are good…but once you really go trolling for performance, the best way to get the best info is from people who have achieved (or at least come darn close) to what you are looking for in...Continue Reading

What happened? - The weather has been strange in California. We got snow, hail, rains, winds, and all these mean I have to fly indoor. Looking forward to shinning weather.

I have been doing this now for almost 2 years. Picture is my current inventory of planes in various stages of completion or desctruction. I never seem to be able to throw away any parts until they are absolutely un-useable. Got some cool edf and twin edf experiments coming up. will post progress to this blog for posterity purposes. Blogging rules....huh huh ..huh huh huh...

Do you recognize this as a Blade CP? Yes - it is really a Blade CP with the Super Landing skid and a mod canopy. I'll let you guess what is the canopy I use on my Blade CP. Here are a few pictures to share.

3/29/06: Another sunset visit to the field

Total: 28 flights

Four flights, mainly practicing approaches. Still got to nail down this 3-dimensional thing. It's amazing how all the lessons I learned in FS vanish when I have a real airplane in the air.

One out of four looked like a dead-on approach (down the centerline), although I would have liked the "downwind" leg (no wind right then, but y'know what I mean) to be better. Another was totally on the runway. The other two we were happy to have no damage. At least I'm not clunking it into the weeds now.

Flew until I couldn't tell which side ot the airplane was the bottom by looking at it (I've Monokoted the bottom of the wing black). Time for one more safe landing and go home.

One issue is that I'm getting used to new spectacles, and with my astigmatism that takes a few days. The lab had to try three different types of lens material to find one that would do my Rx without looking like sawed-off Coke bottles. Must take a killer refractive index. The new ones are much better for reading out-of-the-box, but just good enough for driving at a distance. Hopefully the distance vision will improve with time as it usually does. They also have neat clip-on shades that look like you actually have prescription sunglasses, they fit on so smoothly. That's good because I have never been able to use prescription sunglasses before due to the astigmatism issue.

Sure glad the time changes this weekend. With my schedule that will mean I get to fly in daylight again! No point in taking a camera up until that happens.

I'm 13 and trying to raise money to fund my winter building. I am selling Kevlar tow for wrapping spars and joiner boxes. It is 1500 Denier, about 80 lb test based on data I have seen on the web (1140 den = 60 lb test).

Good to have on hand, even if you don't yet have a project in mind!

100' for $5.00 shipped.

Half the price of on-line retailers and no extra shipping charges. Check, MO or paypal. PM for paypal information.

My Destiny, Zipper and JW have all been sold off.

I flew Fermin for the first time last week and my next goal will be to build a 60+ oz. screamer. The place made my 45 oz Bd5 look like a floater.

Upped by DS PB last weekend, no radar but best estimate is up past 90 mph or so. I DSed my re-acquired M60 for the first time and it was beautifully fast and stable.

Current project is a 60" plank with carbon-bagged wings. Might maiden it this weekend if there's enough time for the goop and silicone hinges to dry. I made it using a cut-down 60" size fuse (carbon reinforced) and a modified RG15 wing. I don't care what it does on the frontside, I just want to see how it DSs. Surfaces need to be faced with epoxy and hinged, servos potted, linkages installed and paint applied.

My mother didn't make it to 100. So I had to fly up to Western New York and bury her next to Dad. I was not feeling good I was sure it was another kidney stone but it didn't pass. On my return my doctor sent me to the emergency room instantly, do not pass go. I had a burst appendix.

It has taken me nearly a month to get back to RC. I started working on Bonnie a wonderful electric ARF from Hobby-Lobby. It will be my second Bonnie the first had many "hard" landings but the last flight's landing was way too hard. The plywood wing joiner didn't fit, Hobby Lobby sent a new one meanwhile I went back to work on the B-58. I will post an update soon.

I had a lot of time reading and watching TV. Our cable provides us over 100 channels. Approximately 93 are worthless. You might learn something on the History channel you didn't pay attention to when you were in school. The science channel is OK but you might overdose on Dinosaurs. The military channel is marginal; background music is great, Fox news for world stuff is slightly less biased than the others, then any one of our local channels for the local news and weather, except some guy is allways yelling at you to buy a car.

I should caution you about world news, it can be hazardous to your mental health. Despite the dire warnings about the global warming caused by George Bush, at age 77 I don't really give a ......
