Conditions looked fine on Tuesday, so I took the Spitfire to the larger nearby clearing again. Getting there, I could feel some wind but went on and launched anyway. That didn't last long. I suspect I got some turbulence from the hilltop trees. The impact was hard enough to break the nose completely off in front of the wing. The good thing was that it was a clean break and easy to glue. Uhu POR to the rescue.

Wednesday had almost calm weather towards the evening, so I went again. Launched several times, flew around, and did a few loops too. No good landings, though. Getting close to the ground I always managed to get the Spitfire into a slight climb and it stalled into the grasses. Need to work on that. Forecasts say there's going to be too much wind for my liking, for at least 10 days, though.

I dont know if folks have been following the XK A160 J3 Cub ..
It really is good to look at !
But the flying experience looks to be something to be desired . ( Lot of crashing involved )
Just check out youtube . In almost every video the XK A160 falls out of the sky .

Mine certainly has issues and I havent even flown it yet !
I would suggest that the flight control board sux's big time .

With mine , when I go from 6G to 3D mode I lose around 50% of my elevator movement .
Rates ? What rates ? ( Supposedly Ch5 - But nothing happens )
My confidence for a successful flight are almost non existent .

LE wing slats - Yes ... Thats right ! I ordered some damaged overpriced UMX Turbo Timber wing slats ( seller SAID this N that about not sending me said damaged slats - but guess what I got !!!! ) = Disappointing !

Anyways , I have glued the damaged slats to the wing of the cub , and hopefully they will ..

A) Stay on for starters
B) Help with the low speed stalls ( if thats the problems ) in turns
C) ????? Not cause problems !

Battery is charged , I tooled around more trying to work out why I was loosing 50% elevator in 3D mode ..
But , no results . It could be a pig N a poke .

At the moment ( ATM ) , wind and more Wind ...
Need to fly the 18650 Mini Stick again - More Prop !

I've converted my 4f200 belt driven tail setup to direct drive setup. Still haven't decided what pitch for the blades to lock the slider at. Excited to get it completed and tested on my 4F200 with direct drive main.

After digging through the internet for a simple scale waterplane subject, I stumbled across the Volmer Sportsman. This was a kit plane that was designed in 1956. About 1000 plan sets were sold, and roughly 100 finished airplanes took to the air/water.

My version was a bit of a departure from the usual stringer-centric approach that I prefer. Instead, this project is mostly sheeted to keep parts count low and build pace high. The result is also a bit more durable to allow being tossed in the car, as opposed to the more delicate Goose.

Model Aviation published the first of a two-part build article in the October 2020 build edition. They included a downloadable plan for anyone interested:

The parts count was kept low and simple in order to simplify handcutting. But these attributes helped keep shortkit costs down, too. The resulting shortkit is available thru Manzano Laser Works:

Nano Goblin Twin Motor - Flight Footage
For those interested in how my upgraded twin motor build turned out; here's some DVR from a quick evening test flight.

So, far I've only really tested it in manual mode, without the Ardupilot stabilisation, but due to all the reinforcement of the wings (lamination), metal gear servos, and counter-rotating props it's already super stable without stabilisation. It has almost no tail wag even in manual mode, so I imagine it'll only be even smoother when I get Ardupilot tuned and yaw working.

These flights are all on 4S 1300 100c packs. I clocked 177kph (110mph) level flight speed on these packs, but I think It'll do even more than this as this was just a quick burst. It maintains stability at these speeds. It can also go completely vertical without stalling out. Flight time is around 15min on these packs.

Flight weight ended up at 480g with battery, which might seem heavy compared to the stock goblin, but it isn't really when you have this much thrust (500g per motor). It still handles totally fine and has good stall, launch, and landing characteristics (see DVR).
I'm very pleased with the results so far.

I certainly recommend this beefed-up twin mod for anyone who wants a faster more stable Nano-Goblin.

Hello all together

Finally I finished the famos "Dorade" yacht, designed by Olin Stephens in 1931 from the AMATI kit.
There had to be done some adaptions to make it work as a RC-model.
And, as you can see on the video... it worked out.
Three options of sail sizes are making it possible to sail it under different wind conditions.

Hello Everyone,
I am Using Pixhawk 2.4.8 FC, with TFMINI-S for Obstacle Avoidance. Using -I2c i am able to get the value of distance in proximity box.

But when I test in practical it didn't perform the act.

Whats could be the probable cause/ solutions for this.

Looking forward for your kind suggestions/assistance in this regards.

I believe ive got the hottest most bad ass flite test freedom fox yet! Ive gone thru 6 different motors and esc's trying to get the perfect setup and ive finally got it dialed in to an impressive amount of power, solid 8-10 min flight times on 3s and more on 4s. Im running a flite test 2218b radial brushless motor and a eflite pro switchable 30 amp esc .the power and flavor of flying is established FINALLY! With a 10x6 3 blade prop it climes verticle, performs excellent and flys smooth and fast, low and slow. It has ample power and very good acceleration i love it now! I hated the stock setup it was garbage no power, sounded horrible and just sucked. Ive finally got it setup how i really aimed to do and its finally fun to fly not a heart attack in the sky about to crash or stall. Finally after trial and error its absolutely perfect for all kinds of flying stunts and stol type fun.
Glad i got the problems fixed and its flying to good to be true.

Someone messaged me to ask me about the OMP m2 Explore that i own my thoughts and info about it so i thought i would put it all here also so that others can read it.

I have the OMP M2 Explore I purchased it back on July 10th 2020 so have had it almost 3 months now.
I got the Explore cause its a little cheaper then the V2 version, the difference between them is the Explore has plastic case servos where the V2 are aluminum, it has plastic swash plate and blade grips.
My first minor ( I thought) went down in tall grass crash broke the rear pin on the swash so i had to order the updated one.

Honestly if you have the extra to spend just get the V2 with all aluminum. I feel like the aluminum servos are worth it, cause i have looked and it doesn't seem like anyone sells the aluminum ones separate.

From what I have been told all of the V2,explores have the new updated governor and have been told they run better with a Flat curve.
mine is at 60%/70%/75% I normally just fly in stunt one, my tail holds great, I did bump up the speed for the tail from 5 to 7. for flying in mostly stunt mode 1
I flew more in stunt mode 2 this weekend and i did have the tail kick out with me on hard stops. (like doing a hard rainbow and stopping it fast going back the other way it kick 45 degrees on me.)
I might need to up it some more if i'm going to fly in stunt 2 more often.
it has so much power even in stunt one that i really don't need the extra power but it sounds cool.

Linux Flavours I did not hate

Mint ( A favourite )

Right now Mint would be at the top of my list .. Just does what I need .
So why ? My PC is old , really old .
Shortly about to become 5 generations old , and in puter terms that is really old .
Been years since I have done a CPU / MB / RAM upgrade to something more modern .
And now my system is left in the dust .

After a hardware upgrade I will toss Windows to the curb and go Linux for my main OS and then VB half a dozen OS flavours including Windows .
So with new CPU's about to be launched I have to wait and see how the $$ goes .
This CPU is rated over 200W , so looking forward to maybe a 65W rated CPU with way much more processing power .

I am about to download more Linux flavours ... Hopefully wont have to wait to long to play with the Cub .

I have 2 old(unused) Fuji 15's that the muffler doesn't have a pressure nipple. I purchased from Horizon 2 Saito(SAI50148) muffler nipples. Only information is outside diameter of thread is 3.8 mm. I took to Lowes and seems that 8X32 is thread size. Before drilling into mufflers wonder If anybody has tapped this nipple and what drill and tap should used? Building scratch twin star 15 in order to get into flying twins.

It must have been over one solid year that I have not flown my beloved Park Zone Spitfire Mk IX with the modified Park Zone 480 (E-Flite Number: EFLM480BL) and the Master Airscrew 3-Blade, 9 X 7 X 3 and using the 3-cell, 1800mAH, 30C, Lithium Polymer packs. The ESC bone stock, the E-Flite 30-AMP (V2).

It performed very well considering. I say considering as I attempted a roll and thank goodness it was high up in altitude and I was ready with the rudder! After landing a few minutes later I observed that the Left wing Aileron was not working. As soon as I tapped it with my finger it started working!

Seems like the old lady of the sky will need a remake in paint and Aileron Servos.

I got inspired by water jet drives to design and 3D print a mono hull for a jet drive. Initially I used a small TFL drive, which led to 3D printing a two stage M-jet drive and the getting a metal 36mm drive unit.

The general intent is to use these boats for oval racing in the club, and maybe as my upgraded rescue boat. There might be enough interest to start a new class for club racing, or maybe race them against SV-27s.

All the hulls are basically the same, with revised transom geometry to fit the specific jet drive. The hulls are 27" long and 8 to 8.5 inches wide depending a bit on how wide the flat spot is for the intake. They have a dead rise of 22 degrees. The hull is printed in PLA with a thickness of 1.5mm, except the transom at 4mm thick and flat plate to mount the drive which is 3mm. The transom is printed with 70% infill and everything else is 15%. The full hulls with carbon fiber inlay weighs in at 24 ounces.

There are also little inserts on the outside edges at the joints between sections for alignment and strength.

They are all being powered by UL-1 motors, 120 amp ESCs on 4S.

The TFL boat has been tested one time. It worked nicely, but I should have sealed better around the drive at the transom. Water filled the boat and killed the servo limiting the testing. My first test was with a 1450kv motor, and it was a bit slower than an SV27. I think it will get up to that speed, roughly 35mph....Continue Reading
