Hi, all. This is my latest flying wing design, it's a parkflyer/warmliner kind of machine. This one has a couple special things about it. First, it keeps the scheme of my last wing where the elevons are twisted by a servo at each end, which is a very low drag way to deflect the control surfaces, and allows for center flaps for high lift. The biggest downsides to the flying wing platform have historically been large induced drag from trimming to different lift coefficients, and the 'lift valley' that develops in swept wings and reduces the maximum lift coefficient. Second, it has its control linkages recessed into the wing, instead of pushrods it has what I'm calling 'bendrods'. This means that there are no blunt objects in the airflow, since they're flush with the wing at most deflections. This is a clean ship that will really come into its own when the motor is shut off. Assuming it flies.

-1/16in balsa sheeting
-1/8inx1/4in balsa rods
-3/8inx3/8in balsa rods
-2mm CF rods
-3mm XPS foam
-Econokote (white, red, black)
-Foam Tac
-hot glue

-Tornado T2 1800Kv motor
-Aeronaut 7x6 folding prop
-Aikon 20A ESC
-Turnigy 3s 1300mAh battery
-FrSky X6R Rx
-Diatone 5V 2A regulator
-rando HK 12g servos

-1100mm span
-20dm^2 area
-0.8 taper ratio
-265mm sweep
-445g AUW (though I needed 15g of clay in the nose to hit my (conservative) CG target marks, I'll see how much of that I can remove)

EDIT: One of my friends shot...Continue Reading

Got an interesting question from someone on an old video.
Could earbud magnets be used with actuators ?
My immediate thought was they are all-in-one things with very weak magnets, but I was wrong, way wrong !
Some Dollar Tree cheapo earbuds have something similar to N40 neodymiums in them
So I just had to build something quick to try out the effectiveness.

9" wingspan, Santa RX with own firmware, 7mm stock Santa motor & prop. 150mA Eachine E010 lipo, 300+300 coils as the rudder actuator, 17g AUW
It's a sort of Silverlit Single Wing from around 2006 in how it handles, though nowhere near as robust.

Can earbud magnets be used on R/C planes ? (3 min 30 sec)

Racing In The Sand Trap With The Turnigy Trooper SCT Via FPV ;-)

Racing In The Sand Trap With The Turnigy Trooper SCT Via FPV ;-) (5 min 13 sec)

Turnigy Trooper SCT 1:16 Scale R/C Truck

The area of the racetrack we setup is 60ft x 16ft.

Racing this R/C truck on wet sand on top of concrete was a major challenge!

I hope you find this video as entertaining as I did frustrating!

As you can see I can definitely perform durability testing of what I review ;-)

OK! So lessons learned when driving on an enclosed track in sand.

*Watch your speed especially in the turns
*Throttle management is key

Other than having to learn that lesson the hard way it was a lot of fun driving these practice sessions.

Happy Driving!

Review of Jumper T12 OpenTX 16CH Radio Transmitter with JP4-in-1 Multi-protocol RF Module for Frsky JR Flysky

"One transmitter to rule (control) them all"
My new transmitter just came. Its Jumper T12 OpenTX 16CH Radio Transmitter with JP4-in-1 Multi-protocol RF Module.

Transmitter feels nice in hand, and more important sits nice in hand.

Best things on this transmitter are:
  • small, light, compact and east to carry around
  • multiprotocol RF module included
  • JR/FrSky compatible module bay - you can use FrSky R9M or TBS Crossfire modules
  • runs on OpenTX - best transmitter SW available - OpenTX SW runs on very popular FrSky transmitters like Taranis X7, X9, X9D etc... and also possibility to use Companion TX on PC for creating, modifying, backing up and transferring models to other OpenTX running (Taranis) Transmitters

I am looking forward to using it on the longer run, because,
beside using its 4-in-1 Multi-protocol RF Module I am also getting FrSky R9M RF module so I will be trying to fly some long range quad I am building with Jumper T12. It will be interesting I hope.

In my RC pilot life I started with some really cheap 4CH FlySky stuff, than iRangeX iRX-i6X, than moved Turnigy 9XR with FrSky XJT module, than FrSky Taranis X7 and my latest and greatest FrSky Taranis X9D SE.

Now some more info on Jumper T12:
the T12 version does indeed support Crossfire and in CRSF mode with LUA script support
and most importantly WITHOUT any...Continue Reading

It is absolutely amazing how quickly the workshop gets so much clutter in so short of time when working on a project. Need to tidy up cause I'm sure I'll come home from Fall Nall with more than I took there.😁😁

There are inherent problems with surfing Feebay ! Every now and again they get you to bite !
And so it is with this little free flight rubber powered plane .

I saw it and thought , just what the heck do you get for like $1 USD shipped to your door ?
Seriously , $1 USD

So obviously I had to shell out a dollar - right ?

What came in the packet ?

A stick , to which everything is attached .
Plastic attachment points ..
Foam wings and tail surfaces .
A prop and rubber to power it
A small rubber band to hold the wing in place
And some double sided tape (?)

To assemble ..
Install the plastic attachment points ( Wing tail )
These slide onto the stick ( Very firmly ) you may wish to have a adult do this as children may lack the strength ..

To attach the wings :
First lay down the correct piece of double sided tape ( tricky to peel )
Then you need to carefully lay down the wings
Put on the wing retainer on top and then attach the small rubber band
Actually , it works and is some what robust .

There are two pieces of plastic that are supposed to go on the wing to help bend them up for greater stability , but I did not bother with them .

Elevator rudder ..
These are simply held in place with the double sided tape provided ..
???? Not sure how much I like that , but seems to be working for now .

To get your CG right simply slide the wing on the stick as needed ..
The foam wings N things are pliable and can be finger molded to change...Continue Reading

This little park flyer is very nicely molded. It is outstanding in its scale outline. It is very quick to assemble too.

I did the maiden flight on a windy day, and it did get blown about a little but it was still fun to fly. I think it would be great in an actual small park, surrounded by trees that act as a wind break.
