Here we go. I hope to get this thing built and in the air by the end of August. Any and all criticism/help/input is greatly appreciated.

I haven't decided 100% on a motor/esc setup, but I have some options and would appreciate any input.

Here's what I'm going for:
· Ailerons working off a single servo (I plan on using sullivan cable for the ailerons, but I might use 2 2.5/3.5 gram servos instead)
· Flaps working off a single servo (I have no idea how to do this, so.... yeeeehaaawwwwwww!)
· Steerable tail wheel in scale placement (I have no idea how to hook that up to the rudder servo, so this should be fun!)
· Rudder and Elevator on independent 5g servos
· Parklite or Monocote covering
· Ideal AUW 10oz, but I can live with 12oz if it flies

I've decided that I need to really rethink this build/motor setup before I move forward. I was going to use an Emax RSII 2206 1600kv but I really don't think it's right for this build. Anywho. Updates coming soon.

oh, and, if anyone has a line on a nice 45mm spinner for a 4 blade prop, or a good recommendation for the degree to set the throws at, let me know!

Cheers

Hello all,

I got extremely bored after a few months of quarantine, and decided to convert a Guillows kit 905 w/ components I had laying around from previous FliteTest planes/spare parts. Well... I was almost positive that this monstrosity wouldn't take to the sky, but I was wrong! After I slapped everything together, I took it for a taxi in my culdesac and decided to see if I could get airborne, and sure enough! It flies!

Here's a rundown of the gear:

· Turnigy 1811 brushless Outrunner 2900kv - 12g
· EMax BLHeli 12A ESC - 10g
· ZIPPY Compact 350mAh 2S 20C Lipo Pack - 25g
· Gemfan CCW 5" 5030 5x3 3 Blade propeller
· 3 X EMAX ES9051 4.3g Digital Mini Servos - Ailerons, Elevator, Rudder (Ailerons operate off of 1 central servo, using a guitar string like sulivan cable to operate both ailerons at the same time
· Guitar Strings for push rods
· Control Horns made from scrap balsa

I'm not sure of the AUW because I seem to have misplaced my digital scale, but I'm gonna pick one up and see what she says. I'd assume it's somewhere around 3 ounces and I have no idea what kind of flight characteristics to expect, but I can tell you that I was able to pick up at a relatively scale speed.

I've yet to do an official maiden because I'm waiting for my pilot/warbird enthusiast friend to have the time to see me crash and burn lol but I'll post a video as soon as possible

Canopy hatch fits very snug. Held on with 2 rare-earth 1/4 in magnets and 2 small wooded dowels.

I made a firewall out of some spare basswood I had laying around and the thickness was just right for mounting the cowl. Just need to sand it smooth and add the spinner.

Soldering up the ESC today. I'm relatively new to the hobby and not sure what kind of wattage this setup will provide, but I weighed all the parts the other day and I should come in around 12oz if I'm lucky so I'm hoping she'll fly.

I've learned a lot from meltor and RedTaco and will be taking a few notes from their builds. Hope you guys don't mind? Absolutely couldn't resist the E-flite rotating retracts for this build.... hope it all works out.

Parts:

· D2822/14 Brushless Outrunner 1450kv

· Turnigy 25A Plush ESC (or) Detrum 30A ESC - yet to make a decision... not sure if the 25A will be enough

· 3 Turnigy TGY-1551A Analog Micro Servos - 1.0kg /0.08sec /5g

· Hobbyking™ 3-Blade Propeller 7x3.5 Black

· Aluminum spinner 1.75" (3 slots / blade) - Might not go w/ this as it adds 40g to the overall weight...

· E-flite size 10-15 90 Degree Rotating Electric Retracts

If anyone can recommend some good wheels for this build, I'd be forever grateful.
