This is a Undie 250g replacement for my Cadet33. It hasn't got any flights yet as ESC or motor has given up working. This is build log did up in anticipating it would, but it'll need new equipment, and I kept putting off buying anything, as other things keep falling apart prior winter coming.
- Piece-mealed Cadet back together for a few tosses this spring. Busted it up and just felt too heavy if repaired. It's last outing was 2023-5-29 AUW =260g, parked in pine tree & cracked fuse behind TE, again. Should add an update to its blog#28.

- This one is just tad smaller Artic Tern calling =Artie. Gona dedicate it to Artie Shaw, for the "Nightmare" song in Howard Hughes Movie: The Aviator. I'm at that stage in my life where feel like could line room with milk jugs as get up almost every half-hour for a relief pause.
- Did a somewhat history of Cadet/L-6 & other Grasshoppers in blog#28, so just let Wikipedia give the facts this time: The Arctic Aircraft Company was founded in Anchorage, Alaska by Bill Diehl in 1975 to produce an updated version of the Interstate Cadet light aircraft as the Arctic Tern. In 1985, the company closed down, and rights to the aircraft went to the Interstate Aircraft Company.
.....Harlow Aircraft sold the manufacturing rights for the Cadet aircraft to Call Aircraft Company of Afton, Wyoming, in 1945. In the 1960s, newly formed Arctic Aircraft purchased the rights, and currently produces an upgraded version of the...Continue Reading

Not wanting the FAA to RID me away from RC, been converting some of my planes to undie 250gm. Trying to SAFE-ly stay away from UM's with bricks but finding this summer using 24g motor, 10-12A ESC & 500mah (or360mah) 2S battery might be too much weight.. This is my 2nd build (Blog#19 Funsair) of YarSmythe’s Funder. It's got a few test flights but now motor or ESC have given up so kinda another fail. Think maybe need smaller motor anyway, maybe rebuild at 24". So this how build went for now until get new equipment in it. Calling this Mini-Funder - Chex.
https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=705899
- Called the first -"Funsair" cause made it with fat flat Corsair-shape wings (30x8"). Then the Funder has more of a P-40 shaped wing than the V out of a P-38. Funsair was a great Aileron trainer built in 2015 with a BL ST 370sz motor, using 20A & 2S 1200mAh. Was still flying in 2021 with Emax CF2805, 10A & 800mah w/o the landing gear. Tried updating with gear again Last year using GH 2208, 1450kv, 20A, 3S 1250mAh & 8x6 prop. AUW was 477g. Twice that shot straight up like a rocket & crashed on house's roof. Was also changing from DX6i to DX7, didn't seemed to like same travel settings. Later got some glide outs but proved too fast when gave any power past going straight in my small field. Figured could make another a tad smaller & go back to using Emax 2508 with 500mah or smaller if gave up landing gear again.

Pst#1 Looks like Another pusher plane.
Is it TUFFY#3? It needed better name. Been tilting at windmills with the FAA limitation. Have two other stink'n undies in work. Tuffy#2 is now Pyler but its a tad over 250g...so this one is all about getting it under 250gm. Had pix of this Polish Ultra-lite in with ones of Birdman Chinook, a J-2 Polonez with a mid-wing & T-tail. But the Polish company, Janowski, also made a kit for High-wing J-1 nicknamed "Don Kichot"=Quixote. So with a tail like the Chinook & body like Kichot. Has to be: Kichnoot (Bless you).
* Both those planes are rather pointy at the front, and for RC artistic licensee & better crashablity rounded it and added a foam bumper. If built the boom out of foam sheet it might even start looking like a Woody Pusher...which kinda looks like a no-dome, rag-top Bee???er.

* Build got stared on 2023-9-16. Got these two Themofoam cooler from someone that knew I build foam planes. Hey yeah know it's gonna be little dots all over the cutting room floor but looking a gift horse in mouth...said. Yeah I can make them fly. Took five days to build, mostly to let glue dry. Used Brown Gorilla glue, I'm not into that Hot sticky glue glob'n & melting stuff. My fingers got burt once, enuff!
* My build log here is just taking pix of parts on scale prior to putting them together.

SPECS:
Prop: GWS Orange 7035, w/prop Saver hub & O-ring = 4g
Motor: Emax CF2805, 1700kv (just the...Continue Reading

INTRO: WHY No! IT'S NOT same as Tuffy#1 --it's a one-ply flip flop not two!
*** Cut this to look tad more like CSG Hawk than big brother. Has the smaller Emax 2508 26g motor. Used the Polyhedral KFm2 wing 34x7" (62g,) that had turned the bigger into a rocket. Figured, motor, smaller fuselage & shorter length might calm it down.
* Took it out for first test toss morning of June 17th, few parts still missing, couldn't get in good trim but seems to wanta jump up & fly. Had to put 10g pac of pennies weight in nose to not fly nose up. AUW then was 288g. It was a damp dewy day, and by afternoon was raining again. Next test date the 21st, wanted to just turn left, so removed some shims on motor mount, by third time out had it up doing circles, but wasn't happy with way was turning on the Poly wing. Struts might have been good idea. Ended up putting it at top of pine tree other side of field. Took out few more times while started building Vee-center KFm4 wing.
* But by the 25th had crack back-end cockpit area just ahead of LE so, started chopping up inside fuse to get the weight down. It was an ok flyer, should've just waited to see how did on new wing. Dang Govm't, should be happy have a model that wants to fly..but it's over that target 250gm...so bummbed. Maybe my goal should be to build 100 planes between 250-300gm and fill up my registry. I'm sure a few others have well over that in there FAA ha ha list.
* Got it's test flight on Vee-wing the...Continue Reading

My Tuffy looks bit like a real ultra-lite built by Chuck Slusarczyk; CGS Hawk.

* Those started as taildraggers in '82. Now have 2-seaters & tri-geared; Classic, Arrow, Plus, Sport, Ultra or AG.
**If I do make it landing gear no doubt will be ole taildragger. Yes, I see that H-stab goes midway up on tail. Maybe change if do add wheels.

The power system I have hasn't worked out for this little plane. That's been true for most my builds this summer, but too stubborn to give up and just buy smaller batt & motor. Back in Spring couldn't find replacement 800- 1200mah batts. So I didn't scale up my drawing from when made the coroplast P-66. Haven't built many warbirds, I feel no need for speed, just need to keep within area can fly around in.
- I'll admit just wanted to get to building this one cause had put it off so long. I'll put bit more of history at end of this very short build-as I'll probably re-do it bigger/ better or do a BT-13.

- I did somewhat go thru dz1sfb thread. **SEMFF WWII combat planes 35 designs with plans and video**
https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...nd-video%2A%2A
Thought could do like his P-64, A6M, or FW-190.
Came back to this page a lot: dz1sfb pg6/ pst#76 "P-64 Maidened! Woo Hoo! Right off the board success!"
https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...eo%2A%2A/page6
* But I didn't follow through on doing his box guts inside than sandwich up the sides, his PLF or VLF idea.
- Also looked at dz1sfb pg131 pst#1962 Brewster F2A Buffalo. But think lost idea because its a mid-wing.
CGI drawing haiduk has for AT-6 pg 137/pst#2045 has the idea for compartments. So round noses want that PLF up front, but thin planes with low-mount wings work out better as VLF. So flat bottoms are: AM6, ME-109, Mig 3, P-51, Spit, Hurricane, P-39, F4U, Yak 3U, CA-12 (...Continue Reading

B#29 Pst#1 Simply needed a simple new plane
Started back mid-summer July/Sep to make simple plane to keep hands on sticks, since my Cadet33 & Cessna 120 haven't got off the ground yet. Both those are in re-build.
- There's been a bunch of tail pulling done around here for that simple fact. This one is second "simple" plane that started on Sep 19th.
- Not much of a build; spare wing, spare parts... slap some glue on pop-sticks, clamp on some balsa blocks, bolt those on a stick, add rubber bands--vol'a New Plane.
- Then took getting few clear days, to change out best wing & where to set them clamp bolts so balance was happy. Got set where flies around without roller coasting around on big wing, unless wind kicks up. If gets too breezy can slide pylons forward, use thinner chord wing and try to fight the wind.

-Might be able to build it lighter if make somewhat like my Blog#21 Blu-ft with flip-flops. But its not a pusher. It took putting 2 pennies on front of stick to get good COG & even flights. With the WS36" Kfg/5" Chrod wing its no 250size slow-stick either. Might be nice to try it in a longer field than mine where don't have to avoid hitting the tree-line.
- I've been trying to make a Beagle "seaplane" that takes off from snow for a few now, most on idea of pushers. This is kinda different in having a top motor Puller but has tail-boom under the wing. Don't find many planes like that. Ran across photos where could make look like an Italian design seaplane: Bagalini Baganfibio I-Baga:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bagalini_Baganfibio
Says Italian homebuilt design by Marino Bagalini in 1998.
*Has 2-seat tandem cockpit, retracts, Junkers ailerons all wood w/fabric cover. No tip floats but sponsors, 40/50ph motor Rotax 503 or 447. WS 35' WA 167sq ft Lgt 22' empty wgt 385lbs.
(So there's a possible "winter" build idea)

Was yet another rainy day here, looks like on this year's pattern of three cloudy, then two somewhat sunny. Working on rebuilding the C120's gear & a Bandit like plane that busted. This Cadet did get up on Sat for a short flight, but couldn't repeat...and I'm blaming the bottle motor mount--so that's being replaced with block foam. The C120 & Cadet got built together last fall had some of this blog ready when posted Blog #27 on C120...but since made many major changes to this plane.

I just like keeping an ole Army "Grasshopper" Liaison aircraft in the fleet. Since I like round noses maybe do a Curtis O-52 Owl or the Vultee-Stinson O-49 that became L-1 Vigilant. The most produced of "L" series was the Cub and most "looked like" it:

Taylorcraft L-2 evolved from their "D" not their Cub. Around 1980 built
Aeronca L-3 65TC/Champ. Moved the pilot to the front. built 1680, used in Korea as L-16 Champ/Model 7)
Piper L-4 Cub -- built over 4k
Stinson L-5 Sentinel, built 3590 (& used in Korea Vietnam as L-13). They slipped into Convair
Interstate L-6 Cadet Built about 570.
North America/Ryan L-17 Navations - used in Korea
L-19/O-1 Cessna 150/170 "Bird Dog"

The Cadet kinda slipped between Stinson & Vultee ownership outa Convair. The plans got bought up by Harlow Aircraft (who made a civilian like Vultee P-66), then to CallAir in Afton WY. In 60s they sold the certs for Arctic Aircraft in Alaska to...Continue Reading

Ok, it's built but no flight time yet. Has got some test runs on ground, but then it rains, it blows, so it don't go outside to go up Say's-naw.
- I've wanted to build this since Springer's plans posted back in Oct 2014. Think I said something about if his Floater had a round bottom, it'd be like dad's ole C-120.
https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...Cessna-120-140
* This makes the fourth plane I've built from One-sheet plans, so thanks be to Springer. Please forgive anytime I might have used your name in ...pain. This is NOT a build log, it's a recollection from reviewing my notes and the few pix took of my persevering to make this look like it does now.
-- He suggests using 1700 kv 24gm motor, 7x6 prop, 2s 800-900mah packs...which is now where I'm focusing motor/batt for fleet & round about AUW below 250g fudge little over towards 300. Didn't get 10Amp ESC from Grayson Hobbies till this month to complete it.

Pushy-G: The back story:
This was a failed delta-modified wing project that's already got tore down, but I keep mentioning it in every other post, as it took up three winters trying to modify it to never fly an oval. It did make great snow doughnut tracks. I've been picky about mostly posting blogs after got a maiden flight outa the plane. My opinion is changing on that...how can ya get help on a build if you're holding back on all the notes?

- For my first failed Delta got to go back to my Blog#15. Made the FlightTest Swappables & called Dart & Delta (& Snowball was part of those). Back in March 2014 the Dart did ok, but was a flimsy trainer plane, it's wing became my $TF-22. Still agree was good thing that FlightTest got everyone away from Slow-Stic & building with foam board! Pst #1 of 13 Blog#24:
Wow, Took me 3 yrs to make that next blog post! Yeah a mix of health & economic issue over that time. Even if just for making my own inventory list gona do similar review as 2017/16 as a catch-up to 2022. Doubt there's that many wanting some follow-on to how long/or the mods made to my planes, but someone might appreciate & maybe get some ideas. Skip over next 3 paragraph if just want RC plane stuff-- not me making healthy excuses.
The hernia surgery led to me not lifting much. In spring 2017 fell on a mad dash and bashed my left shoulder. By March I couldn't lift arm above my head. So did PT thing with door pulley & elastic exercise well into May. Missing the normal tourist season hiring, did short-term temp jobs. Light lift cause I wasn't gona do good at unloading pallets of peat moss or carry roofing shingles up ladders at my age. Had to find something better, but then the van went into -replace this, then that- mode. Somewhere along that time my desktop gave up, so switched to a smart phone. That led to me doing less typing, hate thumbing pecking.
Spring of 2019 start commuting each day to get on boats to Mackinac Island--so downtime was more important than airtime. Did that till Oct.
Start of 2020 was training for that Censless thing, went around to group places. Sent me out in woods to "listed" hunting camps that were snowed covered, no clear driveways, hadn't been inhabited since fall or maybe 9yrs back,...Continue Reading

Well its mid 2018, but see skipped all of 2017, might say I was a bust. Everyone out flying around for the big 4th weekend, but I'm not up for travel or loud noizy crowds. Seems like two years I've been in slow moton, crawl or walk no running.
- The last 2 weeks of 2016 had hernia surgery. The prep-paper said I'd be able to shower in 2 days...ah yeah right, if don't pick up anything like shampo or try to scrub your back. Didn't say anything about better have Everything on counter-top cause for next four weeks anything over eye-level you're not gonna be grabbing. When taking grocries out of car and that gallon jug of milk says use both hands, the idea of twisting and sqeezing a fussy glue bottle to fix a plane just don't fly. .... But this a blog about - what DID fly for Nom in 2017 so here goes:

a. Milk-Jug nosed J3: I did a test roll in driveway snow 2017-01-02. It flew few times in 2016 with Emax 2805 & 7x5 prop & wheels not skis. Had made skies from Fam$ Re-fill liquid hand soap jug sides. It was a front prop pylon snowplane. Pill bottle mount got shortend move forward bit more & re-blocked. Gave up on the longer Kfg wing with ailerons. My second time out was the 18th, it flew way out in field. It couldn't plow thru snow so was a walk to get it. Lifting legs in crusty snow, yeah that'll twist your waist some... was enough RC fun for then. By March-11th, had turned the pylon around to make it a pusher-prop, but had early melt off of snow,...Continue Reading

I like it when a build leads me to read more about aviation. With the weather turning rainy & cold, gave time to read. This turned more into a “what do I know about biplane plus what planes were near my old AF Squad in WWI?
- This was a problem as they got to France by Oct 1917, then at Issoudum Aerodrome became a Aero Construction Squad--- the 462th. They erected plenty French Bessonneau hangars. An ex-cmdr Lt Scroggie transferred to the 94th prior December, so he might have flown N.28 but most AEF flew SPADS. http://www.homeofheroes.com/wings/pa...tories1PG.html

This is a project that I just kept going back to try again, and now its flying. Think can see that its not the same as Beagle/Bandit but close in idea.
- The germ of this came back when flying my Slow-stick. I made 3cm squares that could slide onto stick to lock down the wing mounts/servos..other items, could use zip-tie around if that wouldn’t hold. Like better than drilling a hole for a screw. Flip-flop foam cuts fairly easy in straight line. (This plane has a block on dowel at Stab LE /Tail fin.) Then I started cutting out blocks to hold the battery down on stick and other planes…just got into using stuff were needed a bit of give.
- Blk-ft had almost full XLarge flop, DW has half a Med. My Funsair fuse is flip-flops --and they fly nice. Always had idea if could just skip $T foam.

If I had it to do over might change some things: I’d slant cut the baby pylon flop to get same length but lighter. The inside of pylon flop is about hollowed out as tried to fit wires & ESC for ST400, if was solid could cut half away. Also think putting a pop-stick inside might make more stable. Maybe servo forward more but pop-stick birdcage for LE wing mount & batt slot keeps where put.
- The TE skewer wing-mount tends to wear out its hole. Might need ink-pen tube, something that glues in better. My battery & ESC wires join up right inside the birdcage..not so easy to connect until practice a few times.

Blog #20
It’s the end of the summer here and looks like I haven’t updated since last posted about first flights of year with Snowball and when snow melted at end of April. It’s been two days of pouring down rain here…so why not. All planes got new Name Labels with AMA & FAA #s.

a. #14- Snowball. Flew few more times in May then parked to preserve bottom of skis. Took servo tray off it for other projects.

b. #18 $T F-22. There were a few days in March where snow had melted and this was 2nd plane up for 2016. 3-29-16 Tried ST400 BL motor & 1200mAh batt setup. That was too heavy and basically did a 10ft slow fly down to ground. New better than to try to turn, and if had pulled any more up it would’ve stalled. By 4-17-16 had revamped wire holes thru fuse and put on new Velcro for the Emax 2805, 800mAh, 10A ESC setup. Few other flights, then 6-16-2016 took it out about 7pm was a slight breeze every half min. Got good circle, then 2nd round the breeze dipped on turn and went into pine tree. That broke off fuse/nose where put wire holes, and dented up the “intake” wing area. Did repair shop. Found that the push-rod guides also had pulled out. Had it out in few days, BUT. On plugging in the AUX servo forgot that my AR6115e RX has dark wires up at letters. It did a nice climb and once tried a turn just spiral lawn darted down. Nose broke off again, more of LE of wing dented up. Had it ready to go 2016-7-04 with old...Continue Reading

-The idea of making YarSmythe’s Funder has popped in mind a few times.
https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=705899
In past always lean towards making it a pusher. How to get prop clearance and good gear on grass always the problem. This ones turned more into a Vought V-141 or Corsair like pod made from my favorite foam material--$1 flip-flops. Had ideas of different round nose planes. If get some servo extensions could gull them wings--maybe if I bust them.
-- Projects planned for the XLG flop included drawing up a 30”WS P-66. The XLG flop was only 3” wide so that made wing chord 6” and with tapper down to 3” at tip just didn’t think had enough WA. Maybe I’ll try it as a BT-13. But then plan turned into a 20.5” WS IL-16 of foam plates just to try some different building material. Digging for supplies find them Eflt P-47 wheels, get idea to cut down booms I’d made for Slow-stick. Lets turn those into a YP-38 like thing.*
- Too mess more with building ideas; got a msg from 20something nephew about the OS-Wing & Raptors. Told him that I didn’t think were good “starters” plus needs radio with the elevon mix. So into the --“What’s good beginner…” -- I say can’t loose with HZ UM Champ. Nope--Don’t like that dinky thing…what about the UMX B-17G! Yeah, start with 4 props to bust & worry if all motors pulling same. Then the HZ Duet..but I try explaining idea of a step-up plane..not proportional speed to turn. He steps right up to idea of he’ll...Continue Reading

Nom’s $TF-22 SPECS (Same as NOS-Wing):
Prop: Grey APC 7x4
Motor: Emax CF2805, 1700kv 24g
ESC: HURC 10A, 12.7g
Batt: DBY 2s Lipo7.4v 800 mAh 42.5g
RX: “Backwards” AR6115e
Servos: iFlight is500 Ultra Micro, 5g
WS:75cm 29.5” Lgt: 87/34.5”
--, AUW: ??

Cost: Motor: $10.95, ESC: $11.95, Batt: $ 7.50, 2xServos: $7, $2-2 $T sheets, blu-foam=trash,
Prop: APC 7x4e: $2.12, RX AR6115e: now $20 (sub w/? Pwr-up RD610? =$9.95)
Total = $49.47 (cheaper than a UM brick)
Using DX6i in Delta Mode (w/same fix did for NOS-Wing)

This started out as FT Flyer/Dart. The LE inlets were FT Delta tails. I couldn’t just let the foam sit around. It’s a slow-flyer, making it a good trainer for that NOS-Wing! I’ve cracked the fuse already trying to do a loop too low. Biggest trouble was if just cleared weeds they’d get tangled up in wires. It seems to sink good and glides down w/o motor on. It can pick up some speed going downwind.

- I didn’t go with the box front from FT: http://flitetest.com/articles/ft-22-...ected-cg-issue
It’s more just toss together spare parts of foam had handy.
- I used the 24inch_ws_plan PDF of EPP F-22 to get measurements on spreadsheet then scaled up.
https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...ht=EMAX+CF2805
- Fuse is Blu-foam rest is $T not EPP, but that thread has older Emax 2805 with plenty different kv’s.

- Lots other using $T foam but mines not doubled up like Pst#1108 globalarray, Pst# 5841 Steve0, Pst#6016 jetpackninja or Pst#6064 Timwhoa…

-Didn’t see these plans till mine was built: Pst#257 heavyft on restie thread: https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...800045&page=18
Guess I’d follow this one if made again w/new foam.

- No dual function like page 30 Pst#450 DoctorAudio Oct 10, 2007. but he made WS 22” an used only 1300kv Emax CF2805 motor w/ 6x5.5 APC prop, then change motor but use 2s batt..well then maybe mine will have some play room.

Blog #17: Ps1 -Intro
Maiden Flights 2015-5-01 doing figure-8s in field a many circles. Did a few minor mods since then, but really like flying this wing. Think was smart to wait and use equipment more like on Springer’s post: https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...&highlight=osw

Three days up and dispelling most my fears, Moving batt back a bit got it to fly slower, less nose down & better in wind. It doesn’t have to be a speedo to stay up. Had to figure out how to toss bit to the left, only 15deg up and not gun thrott to get it going. First toss thrott past 3/4th did a 10ft arch up flip and crash behind me. It didn’t just bust apart--but I’ve made nose bumper bigger. Found that prop-saver lets that jump off into TE, so cut out notches. I covered it all in Seal-it tape on 3rd day of flights. Kinda think could’ve used duck tape as covering and it still would’ve flown. I don’t have to be a stick-jocky to turn with Elevons--Big thing was to ensure everything was strapped down inside canopy-esp if doing aerobatics. Test round of crashes the ESC flung around, servo wires on RX came unplugged, and the batt jammed in...Continue Reading

WS: 33.5” under-camered Chord: Center 6” tappers to 4” Tip w/slat 5.5”
Fuse Lgt: 23.6” ext-Floats: 17.5”

Blog #16: Don’t know why CMI calls this a Neoflite T-Bird. Mine should really be called a Phoenix since putting it together after more than 15yrs. Well it’s just the skin of this plane hope to fly. The only original parts still using are wing, fuse-bottle, & main gear wire. If you see something like it on E-bay…stay away!!
It’s a POS from year’s ago that you really can’t update any of the electronics to anything now available.
It looks a bit like a Cessna 177B Cardinal. Has that forward slanted windshield (although it’s just black stickers), wing sits back more than Champ or 182, the stab sits lower but it is a full elevator panel. Then it needs higher gear for prop clearance and I never like wheel skirts since fly off grass. Mine, with its round cowl, looks like bush pilot had to modify it with a Lycoming R-680 motor from Stinson L-1F or Waco S-Cabin to get it up off a lake. --Modelfly has nice 60” glow of C177B on floats with blue trim.
- This is the first airplane I bought that had RC on the box. I got...Continue Reading
