Flew my Phoenix Model PC-9 Pilatus of 58.6 inch wing span for three (3) wonderful flights at my other flying site (Moon Port Modelers RC Club, Titusville, Florida) and it didn't disappoint in the least. With cross wind and slight gusty conditions this model just maintained its course without even exhibiting any issues. Presently, Uploading the Video from today and in the meantime, I am sharing a nice picture thart my Sky Bro took after one of the flights.

Hello good people!

It has been a while since I have not provided any Blog updates so, here is my new to me (used) Phoenix Pilatus PC-9 that I acquired the middle of July 2023.

The seller is a very good modeler and RC flyer who I have been purchasing his models for numerous years now and all of his models are just 1st rate and they look like they have never flown. All of his models are setup with the best methods and great attention to detail and it shows.

I did maiden my new to me PC9 back on Saturday, August 5th, 2023 and had two amazing flights with this 58.6 inch wing span (1490mm) super looking model and it just didn't need any trim what so ever. Surprisingly, it has great speed and penetrates wind like a knife and thereby retains lots of airspeed. Flaps are not necessary on this model because it comes in like a gentle typcial sport model and touches down (kisses the ground) like the best I have ever had in my fleet.

The construction (ARF) and most especially the covering is first rate and looks just amazing.

Here is the For Sale Ad that contains additional pictures:

Some of my own pictures at the RC Flying field during Saturday, August 5th. The pictures while the model is on top of the bed and the mirror represents my setup activity with the AR8000 + SAT receiver and the mirror was an aid to see the binding process / activity from the bottom rearwards hatch on the FUSE.

Just for some background on what my recent (one week ago) experience was finding this E-Flite Carbon YAK-54, 1220mm wing span from someone less than 6 miles away from me and he was asking $150 cash and picked up.

To my shock this model was in new condition even though it was out of the box and the push rods for Elevator / Rudder was not even installed and the hardware was still in the plastic bag.

At one time this model was left hanging up at the rafters of the ceiling and they didn't use the soft rope which caused a little side indention on one side of the FUSE but, it is not even noticeable.

I gave this fine gentleman all of $150 cash that he was asking.

I finally found the FB For-Sale-Ad from Rick Hernandez who sold me this wonderful E-Flite Carbon YAK54 3D Model a lucky find indeed.

The picture with the E-Flite Carbon YAK54 1220mm next to a 66-inch wing span BLACK HORSE Cessna 182 is the one I acquired last week.

I flew it like I stole it!

I acquired this model about a little over two (2) months ago to see why it is so popular and I have had about five flights on it and it was time to move on and allow someone else to enjoy it as I am not a 3D flyer. These were my thoughts just a few days ago and I am happy that I let it go to someone that I saw with brimming ear-to-ear smile when he walked up to the model during pickup.

Yes, it is super light still even though the previous owner installed the Aluminum main gear with these large balloon tires and on just 3-Cells it still does a hover! The landings are beyond KISS-THE-GROUND events! Previous owner didn't like the rather SOFT main Landing Gear Wire. The person who purchased it said that I liked the Aluminum main gear with the Balloon Tires.

I am happy that it went to a good home!

Like to provide my Flight Summary of Two (2) Wonder flights from my AVIOS KT-1700 in rather windy conditions over at our Orlando Speed World - Drift Surface.

I was amazed that two (2) different propellers of different shapes (STOCK with large Paddle Shape and the Bushmule-Skymule with the slender shape) provided very good airspeed and thrust and didn't observe any off-set thrust from any side! I didn't have to re-trim anything!

During the first landing it was blowing at least 10-MPH with slight gusty conditions and it started doing that crabbing because the buddy that has the Wind Sock was not able to come today. I tried to correct but, I was too concern in Flair and keeping airspeed and it touch down slightly crooked and when the mains touched down it jolted the model sideways and nose gear took a good hit when it touched down and bent the steering arm at the nose gear retract side. I was SHOCKED that none of the Propellers took a ground strike!

FIELD REPAIRS:

It was not problem at ALL! I am very pleased of the very strong hardware this model was supplied with, especially all the weight this model has and the Steering ARM was very easy to bent back in STOCK shape. I took my time and all you had to do was to un-screw the Bottom Frontal Nose Gear Cover and un-screw the rear Nose Gear Retracts screws. I carefully took out the nose gear retract carefully and with my hands and no use of any tools, I was able to bend the metal arm at the retract end and all was good again.

2nd Flight Summary:

Took off and nose wheel steering worked like nothing ever happened. Again good airspeed and didn't use any flaps on take-off. It zoomed very well with the new RoaringTop 4-Cell, 3300mAH, 35C, Lithium Polymer Batteries. It was nice and lighter than when I used those larger and heavier 4-Cell, 4,000mAH. The landing was the expected Kiss-The-Ground even with a side wind and this was possible by keeping Air-Speed while using partial flaps.

Got some proud pictures after 2nd and final flight of the day!

Note the different Propellers!

Very good results from not only my initial Maiden Flight but, two (2) subsequent other flights at another Flying Site!

I almost didn't fly the model because I observed some really strange things going on like the model continued to reset itself and by jiggling the battery connector on that specific battery I was able to reproduce the issue. So, fortunately had another battery fully charged and this one allowed rock solid behaviors and no more ESC Reset issue. I almost took out a perfectly good Spektrum AR7000 + SAT because of this issue and all this time it was a bad Cold Solder at one battery connector!

The model zoomed like zest appeal as I didn't use any Flap for its maiden and noticed that the model tracks very well on the ground, however, it sticks to the ground too much and you have to give it a good amount of UP elevator to get it up in the air after you have enough air speed, of course.

During my 3rd and final flight of the day the model seemed to be too nose heavy and I needed to adjust lots of UP Elevator Trim to keep it level but, the landing was still DEAD STICK and partial Flaps and touched down really nice.

Here's the Maiden Flight Video:

Guys,

Took the time to finish all the repairs and maintenance on my Beloved (super rare) Park Zone T-28D Airforce Trojan of 44-inch wing span.

1. Completed the re-enforcement of the Bottom Frontal Plastic Firewall where the Nose Wheel Steering is located and cutting to size and using a Bass Wood piece the bottom of the Firewall now supports the Nose Wheel Strut very well in any landing situation.

2. Replaced the Right Wing Aileron Servo as the Jittering on neutral got progressively worse and found a brand new Long Lead servo in my hobby drawer.

3. Earlier this week, I acquired two (2) brand new Cowlings for the Airforce paint scheme (a very rare and hard to find parts), and installed one of them to my 12+ year old T-28D Airforce.

4. Worked on the Top Hatch - Canopy as it was missing the Pilot so, installed a new pilot figure and had to trim the plastic clear wind screen as the edges curled inward and was not making good contact with the EPP Foam bottom hatch. I have no idea what happened to it (heat, too much direct Sunlight?). Cleaned off the old Glue residue from the inside Clear Plastic wind screen and applied Gorilla Clear Glue and allowed it to cure maximum time before handling it for paint.

5. The Foam Hinges on the Ailerons began to show cracks along the hinge line so, got some Gorilla Wood (White) Glue and inserted good amount using a micro flat head screw driver and allowed the glue to cure at its maximum cure time and leaving the Aileron(s) at a UP-Wards position to have good amount of pressure towards the wing trailing edge. In the picture, you will see that I setup a good method to have the Aileron Hinge to compress towards the Main Wing Trailing Edge.

All in all, the model flew like new and was able to have it fly Knife Edge all around the field without missing a beat.

Happy Camper!

I am very excited to have been lucky enough and acquire one slightly used (practically new) from Dave (dbc) early this morning!

It is amazing how Dave keeps his models looking like they came out of the box and best of all it has been flight tested.

Look what came with me today back home!

Hello good people. I hope 2022 has been great for all of you so far!

Believe it or not, I own and fly five (5) Park Zone T-28 (NAVY) and T-28D (Airforce) Trojans of 44-inch wing span (1.1meter).

One of the NAVY has retracts and is pretty fast and the best of mine are the Airforce & Navy with just fixed gear as the drag allows for fantastic Knife Edge flight all around the field.

The following does NOT apply to the NAVY 1.1Meter T-28 that was re-introduced in September 2018 as that one is only 4+ years old, however, plastic parts age at different rates depending on where the model is stored and it's overall environmental conditions so, keep an eye on the following.

Example!

One BIG Issue that I have found as these RC Models age are all the Plastic parts such as the:

1. Plastic Horns - become brittle and they will break.
2. Plastic covering at the Horizontal Stab that covers the thin foam Horizontal stab that usually breaks as it ages.
3. Elevator (Thin foam) at times requires re-enforcement to avoid breakage at or near the control horn area.
4. Worse is the frontal Plastic Firewall that holds the NOSE wheel steering and Motor.
5. Forward plastic anchor for Wing Attachment to FUSE and rearwards plastic plate that accepts the dual rearwards wing plastic dowel from wing.

These models are now pushing 16+ years now, here is the original Product Review from December 2007.
