I'm not a Castle guy, but I wanted braking for my F3A plane and a friend told me Castle has that capability in their ESCs. So I tried one out and thought I'd give a software tour of the programmer and log graphing software:

How would you like a free 120w Smart LiPo Discharger?

Kacallap sent me a couple of their α12 LiPo Battery Smart Dischargers. One for review, and one to give away on my YouTube channel. So far I've discharged three batteries on the demo unit. 3s peaked at 8amps, 5s peaked at 6amps, and 6s ran steady at 5amps.

The discharger brings packs down to about 3.78v/cell and it does have a balance lead connector, so it is watching the individual cells during discharge. Once it gets down below 3.8v/cell, it reduces the discharge rate and the cells start to recover. The three packs I've run through the process all came off at about 3.83v/s and after resting, they all hit 3.84-3.85v/s.

The fans move quite a bit of air though the discharger and across the heat sink which runs longitudinally through the case. It is a fairly hefty little box indicating a robust heat sink. I took temperature measurements of the heat sink fins while discharging a 6s 5000 and saw 123F.

There are no discharge options. You connect the battery and press the go button. The discharger handles the rest. It also has an auto-shutdown feature post-discharge so you don't have to worry about your battery powering the discharger after the discharge cycle is complete.

The unit does meet the stated 120w discharge capacity, it feels robust and weighty in the hand, has a strong aluminum enclosure and a decent--but not great--backlit lcd screen. That's the one area for improvement: The screen needs to be brighter. The information displayed on the screen is useful and includes the main voltage, cell count, discharged MAH, and per cell voltage.

Overall, I'd say it's a strong entrant in the Lipo discharger market. Watch the video for more info.

This is the first look at the Value Hobby Hummer 3D EPP Profile RC Plane.

I've been having so much fun with that little HobbyKing MX2 I decided to try one of these little profile planes out as well based on the recommendation of channel subscribers. Here is the first look. It's a simple little plane, light weight, cheap parts and I'm sure will be a hoot to fly. Stay tuned for the build and maiden videos coming up soon.

This is not to be confused with flight modes on flight computers/autopilots. The flight modes covered in this video are radio flight modes which allow various configurations of trims, rates, and mixes within the individual modes. This has nothing to do with stabilization, hover, waypoints, or return to home.

I learned while editing the video the 6 position switch must also be calibrated during the OpenTx hardware calibration process. I cover both calibrated and uncalibrated 6 position channel outputs in the video.

Before you attempt the techniques demonstrated in this video, you should be comfortable using OpenTx Companion and with creating mixes. You can get up-to-speed with the two videos below:
