After messing around with this for a short while, I discovered this about the power supply....

POWER ON = SHORT BLUE to BLUE [C1 to C2]
POWER OFF / KILL = TBA
Place a 220K Ohm resistor between A1 and C6 for 55.6Vdc output
NOTE: [1M ohm pot (wiper at A1 and CW at C6) can be used to adjust voltage between 47-58Vdc]

It’s been a couple of years since I bought some new hardware for DLG competition so I thought I’d add a picture of the new ones to my blog. As you can see, they are a pair of CX5’s. The orange one is a standard layup one that weighs in at 230g with the cg at 68mm.

The pink one is a strong D-Box layup with pushrods on the tails. It’s my windy conditions plane and tips the scale at 238g with a cg at 68mm.

So I have these two to go along with a fairly new condition NXT that weighs 226g.

The three will make up my quiver for this season and I think they will nicely cover any flying conditions I’ll encounter.

FrSky Taranis X9D + 2019 SE

I've been flying Spektrum for a few years now, ever since I started in the hobby, and I've always appreciated how easy it was to set up a model and get in the air with their radios, but I always felt like something was lacking. The cost, the lack of customization, and lack of features left me wanting more. Sadly, the only way to get even a portion of this with Spektrum was to go with one of their radios that cost $400+. Enter FrSky!

For a minimum of $100 with the X-lite or Qx7, or the choice here for $257, you get more options, customizability, features, and control than you could ever dream of with any spektrum radio! The price point and the power of the Taranis make the switch a no-brainer. I haven't flown yet due to weather, but I've got my first model set up, as well as the model for flying on Phoenix RC simulator and couldn't be happier.

The set up of a model is quick and easy for a simple (no expo or D/R) is quick and easy. You'll be flying in moments. When you decide to really get into all the features, the power of this radio really shines. In 20 minutes, I had my model set up with flaperons, triple rates with expo on each, motor disable switch, and voices to call out each when the switch is moved.

I can take any input or output, control exactly how I want it to behave, and assign it to any switch, slider, pot, button, or stick that I want. No longer am I stuck having my flaps on one specific switch, or the dual/triple rates...Continue Reading

LDARC 450x after rebuild trim flights (6 min 57 sec)

It's round two :

After doing a rebuild on the brushed 450x ...

FS2A micro Rx with inbuilt 5A brushed ESC
8520 motor
1.9g servos ( I think )
Nanotech 260 1s

It flies ...
At first it hunted the ground ..
So I made a larger trim change after many small changes and then it hunted the sky a little .
Ailerons were a little soft - add more rates .
It's very close to where I want it , the rolls were a little slow .
It might tolerate a still larger battery (?) , but it was very decent . ( Just needs to roll a little faster )

Bougth this radio but it lacks a receiver and servos. The purpose is to fly a Skylark 56 with it.

all installed and weight is only up by 26grams
can defiantly get weight down by 15% with lighter frame and dipole antennas
but lets see how she flies when my ix12 link cable gets here.. to be continued ...

Recently I purchased one of these amazing balancing robots, from jjrobots:
https://www.jjrobots.com/product/b-r...robot-version/

It balances *extremely* well, and is a whole lot of fun. It's controlled via wifi from an app on your phone.

Almost perfect. But, naturally I wanted radio control.

The code is open source from the good folks at jjrobots, so I took a look at it. The balancing is accomplished with a fairly tight real-time loop. I needed to figure out how to get data out of an RC receiver without disturbing the timing of this loop too much.

I decided to use a receiver with a PPM output (also called CPPM), for the following reasons:

- PPM/CPPM is available on multiple different protocol receivers
- Only one signal pin is needed for the interface
- I felt I could use a interrupt routine to read the PPM stream so as not to affect the main timing loop of the robot

I had a Frsky XSR receiver laying around, so I used this for my development of the software modifications. Writing the PPM decoder turned out to be straightforward using interrupts. For reference, the PPM stream looks like this:
Sync - high for > 10ms
Low - .4ms
High - .6-1.6ms (ch1)
