IMU calibration.

First thing make sure you remove the gimbal lock.

You need to get the P3 as cold as possible, ideally either place it on the patio at night for 20m or in front of some AC for 10m with the battery out.

The important part is not to turn on the P3 until you are ready with the app as the IMU is heated and the temperature start to rise as soon as you turn the P3 on, for a good calibration the process need to see the widest temperature range it can.

First put the flight mode switch in the middle position P-ATTI mode as this stops the popup menu coming up when you turn the P3 on.

Next open the DJI Go App and turn on the controller, navigate to MC Settings, Sensors and scroll to the bottom and you will see the IMU Calibration button. (P3 still off cooling at this stage) , you will see the IMU calibration button is greyed out, this won't come active until the P3 connects.

Place the P3 on a perfectly level surface and put the battery in and turn on, within a second of the craft connecting to the app the IMU calibration button will be available, press it as soon as you can and allow the calibration to complete, it takes around 10m.

Whilst in progress do not touch the P3 it needs to be completely still no movement or vibrations.

Once complete then perform a Gimbal calibration from the gimbal menu on the same flat surface.

Make sure you perform a Compass Calibration before you fly at the flight location.

DJI Phantom 3 9450 Carbon Fiber Reinforced Self-tightening Propellers

The DJI Carbon Composite Props http://click.dji.com/ewNB7_KlbEFmBooa

My delivery arrived this week from DJI and i had ordered some of the new Carbon Fiber Reinforced Props.

After opening them up the first thing you notice is the finish, its outstanding, just as good if not better than the stock plastic, they also have a nice matte finish. Weight is identical to the plastic props @ 7g each.

After having a good look over them i noticed that they are really stiff compared to the stock plastic prop, whereas the plastic will bend from the tip these are rigid, when you apply enough pressure they will start to deflect but more in the middle of the blade.

Next i checked them on my DUBRO Balancer, they were all very well balanced, no action required.

First Flight

First these make me really wish DJI would make the P3 in this matte black i think it would look fantastic.

After take off i noticed it sounded different, just a slight change in tone, no louder or quieter in my opinion just different, after some flight time i can say the props make the Phantom 3 slightly sharper, everything is a little more reactive to stick input, it also seems a little quicker reacting to big stick movements as well, after flying a full 2 packs i cant say i saw any change in flight time but i am at sea level so have plenty of air to play with.

Final Thoughts.

I really like them, i do think if your flying at altitude they will help give you a bit more time, they are a quality prop and i will be using them as my main prop from now on.

To cache maps in the background so you can access them later out in the field with out having internet connection as follows

Open DJI Go App,

Go to Camera View

Click on the Map in bottom RH side,

Move around and zoom in on the area you want to fly over,

that it they are cached in the background, just go back to camera view and the map will remain, you can also close the app via the home button and the maps will remain

If you want to automatically cache via wireless data live as you fly over an ares you need to turn on Cache Map In Background

Go into General Settings and click the bottom option that all dots

Turn on Cache Map In Background ,

you need wireless data turned on for this to work

I have been looking for a bench PSU for my chargers for a while and my modified 300W PSU with a lightbulb on the 5v rail to keep the 12v side in check has really been playing up so Last week i purchased the HobbyKing 540W 30A PSU

Spec is 13.8 to 18V at 30A so its pretty beefy and should give me enough power to charge everything iv got, it has duel post outputs and an pot on one side to just voltage.

On the other is Main in and power switch
