I have made some more progress and Iím inching closer to the finish line. I decided to go with the Canadian Snowbirds color scheme. Model is the classic Goldberg Eaglet which has been re-engineered by Balsa Workbench here on RC Groups. Looking forward to a maiden flight in the near future...

I thought I'd share a few photos of my most recent project. I built two L'il Roughnecks for a gentleman here in CT. For those unfamiliar with the design, it was originally published in the November 1963 issue of American Aircraft Modeler Magazine and was afterward kitted by Sterling. It was designed to fly with a single-channel escapement radio and a Cox .010. I'd always wanted to build one and as luck would have it, I got to build two! The buyer wanted the airframes bare so he could do the finish-painting. As you see them, the assembled airframes with no radio gear or power unit have 3 coats of 50/50 nitrate dope and weigh about 3.5 oz each. I had a chance to interview Dave Platt for MAN a few years back on a trip to Florida. Dave was very gracious and showed me around his famous workshop and the shed where he keeps many of his models. The interview was condensed to about 3 minutes and was posted on the MAN website for a while. The actual interview was more like 30 minutes so for anyone who's interested, I have posted the interview on Youtube in 5 segments. Here is a link to the first segment:

Going through old files today, I found this aerial footage I shot with a GoPro attached to my Ben Buckle Super Buccaneer. The video is unedited and the flight footage begins at about 1:55. The Super Buc was powered by a geared Astroflight 40 swinging a 14x8 prop. I believe I was using a 5S lipo and had wired a Liposhield low-voltage cutoff into the circuit to guard against draining the battery too low. Sorry, the audio did not upload.

Please explain the logic to me of having a sludge collector in the middle of the crankshaft which is in turn fixed into place with a cap that takes an act of Congress to remove??? On these old BSA's and Triumphs, you can either strip the entire engine and take years off your life trying to remove this thing or you can risk your crankshaft exploding at a most inopportune time! Final tally- 2 broken tools, 1 broken knuckle, 1 mangled sludge trap cap, more expletives than I can count, 1 sludge trap removed! Take a look at the pics- absolutely packed with crud. Glad to have this part of the build out of the way!

Finished my engine teardown on the BSA A65 engine. Everything looks to be in decent shape except the tach drive which is toast! I'll have to measure everything to be sure. Maybe after I clean up the workbench I can get back to model airplanes for a while!

I finally got my Brit bike... well, I got a pile of parts that I hope to turn into a BSA Bitsa (i.e. a bit of this and a bit of that). The frame is a 1962 A50, the engine cases are from a 1964 A65 and the rest of the parts are unknown. I have since found a '70 A65 Thunderbolt engine which is in very good shape which I plan to rebuild for the powerplant. This is a project for the long haul!

This was a classic example of dumb luck. I bought this bike thinking it was a '72 (per the seller) and completely disassembled it to build a caff. When 75% done, I discovered I really had a first model year CB750! I sold it to a collector in Australia who is presently restoring it to factory stock.

1976 Honda CB750F. I have done more to it after these pictures were taken (removed crash bars) and it still needs a little tinkering, like synching the carbs.

Besides aircraft, I find myself obsessed by vintage motorcycles. I just sold the one that got me hooked- a 1971 Honda CL175 cafe racer.
