Thought I'd mix things up on my RC channel and start a Q&A. If you'd like, comment on my video any question you'd like...RC or not. I'll answer all of them in the next video.

Part 1: Q&A...Leave me a question/comment - Personal or RC, doesn't matter (5 min 50 sec)

Yes it is true...I maidened the version 2 of the Mini Scout and it crashed twice. Once before it ever left the ground. You'll see what I mean when you watch the video.

Well here it is, an almost complete FT Edge! Just got a few more things left and it will ready for a maiden. In this last part of the build series I wanted to share some of my experiences along the way...especially the end result with using Titebond, some linkage/throw tips, and other things.

So decided to bring back the FT Mini Scout. But this time, I aimed for a speedier more maneuverable version.

Gonna venture into the flying wing world and the KFM style wing is a highly recommended wing due to it's great durability AND how easy it is to put together.

Crazy story about how my Adtech hot glue gun spit fire like a dragon!

So I'll be honest, I was feeling very "blah" recently. Felt like I had a bunch of different things (some even RC related) that made me feel that way. I can honestly say thanks to some RC folks it allowed me to shift my focus and get me out of my "blah" state.

So decided to go for a Dexter themed blood spatter type paint job on the foamboard FT Bloody Baron. I put little dabs of paint on the prop and fired her up to see if that would fling the paint onto the plane. I also had a backup plan where I would put paint on a brush and flick that at the plane. The end result came out pretty cool. Check it out!

Finally ventured out to give the profile plane a try. It flew for a few seconds but came down shortly. The results don't surprise me as this was a design I sort of modified to fit foamboard. I believe the problem was getting the CG/balance right. It crumpled the nose up, so I'll have to recut the fuselage. Luckily that's only just a single sheet of foamboard. Here's video of the event:

An update to the FT Edge build process. The fuse is starting to take shape now! I also talk about the different glue I am using...Titebond. Plus sharing any other little tips, tricks, and issues that I have encountered so far.

No crashes into trees or broken props this time! Just a nice flight of the FT Bloody Baron as I play around more with high and low rates settings. This time the lows are at 50% and the highs at 70%.

So after seeing Flitetest release the FT Edge it totally blew my mind on how awesome it looked. Unlike previous Flitetest foamboard designs, this thing had more curve and sleekness to the design. It made me wonder if Flitetest used some other material besides foamboard to make it look that good....nope, the plane was made out of foamboard. So that really attracted me to the plane and made me add it to my never ending list of plane projects.

Looking at the Edge briefly, I kinda thought it may be too complex of a build and that I might just make it a low priority project. Perhaps something to tackle next year. But thanks to the awesome Flitetest community and Flitetest forums, folks encouraged me to go ahead and proceed with the build. So here it is, in its early stages.

FT Edge: Build Intro Part 1 ....What have I got myself into? (9 min 8 sec)

Expect to see more Edge build video progress and eventually a glorious maiden flight (hopefully without a crash) video.

The RC club that I am a member of (Skyhawks-Tri State Model Flyers) had been working hard on an RC dirt track for those interested in RC cars. Well here recently they had their opening day of the "Death Valley R/C Raceway" complete with some races Here's some footage of that opening day:

The FT Seaduck has had an amazing journey. Built a few years ago from a Flitetest speed build kit. Once assembled I made my way out to our airfield to do a maiden flight. I was super excited to fly it but at the same time I was also battling a sinus infection and I had forgot my camera. It wouldn't have been a good filmed flight anyways due to me hacking and coughing every 2 seconds. The actual maiden went well though. And it seems after that everything happened. Wife was pregnant, hospital visits, baby was born (early), more hospital visits...well you know how those things go. And with all this, the plane has pretty much sat untouched.

So once things started to slow down a little bit, I teamed up with my father-in-law to get the Seaduck back out and add some color. Paintjob turned out pretty good and now here we are finally getting the plane some more airtime and filmed this time. Below is the "sort of" maiden (2nd flight). Had a bumpy landing, but the rest of the flight was pretty good.

Seems like as soon as I get something worked out with the FT Simple Cub, I run into another issue. Makes me think the plane is cursed!

Well after the bent motor shaft issue, I got the motor replaced and fixed anything else that needed fixed, I gave the FT Simple Cub another shot. What I got was a pretty successful flight that ended early in a gentle glide back down to Earth. You can see what happened in the video.

FT Simple Cub Flight (3 channel)...I think this plane is cursed! (6 min 17 sec)

The problem itself isn't all that bad and should be a quick fix, but it does make me wanna do some bench testing just to make sure it doesn't happen again. Don't worry, despite this plane's cursed status, I'm not giving up on it.

This is just a goofy little video I put together of the Bloody Baron's maiden flight directly into a tree. Enjoy!

This was the same footage from my much longer video on the Bloody Baron's maiden flight (and crashes!). You can see that video in my previous blog entry or watch it here:

Got the FT Bloody Baron all fired up and ready for its maiden flight. Despite only using 1 battery, I managed to squeeze 3 flights out of her. 2 were real short flights that resulted in small crashes, and the 3rd was the longer flight. Plane performance was very good. I ran 30% for my low rates and 60% on my high rates. The low rates ended up being too low for the wind I was dealing with so I did the 2nd and 3rd attempts with high rates. Overall a fun experience... airtime, crashes, broken props, good rolls, and a tree!

So after some recent discussion with some folks I thought it was a good opportunity to show the damage my FT Simple Cub has taken from some crashes. Felt it was a good true testament to how durable these foamboard/Flitetest really are. So here you can see all the damage that has occurred to the FT Simple Cub.

New motor has been installed and the power pod has been rebuilt. All that is left is reinstall the receiver, double check my balance and battery placement, and she'll be ready to go again.

How durable are Flitetest/foamboard airplanes? A look at the FT Simple Cub's crash damage (8 min 27 sec)

So since being back in the hobby and learning some of the new standards like 2.4Ghz radios, I also had to learn about all things involved with electric flight. One of these things was the use of lipo batteries. Some folks have implanted this fear in me that lipos can blow up at what others may feel is a very slight issue. And granted things can happen if they are improperly charged, handled, etc. So, while I charge things carefully, as with anyone, mistakes and incidents can happen. I had 2 incidents with 2 different lipos in my collection...one was shorted out briefly and the other had some physical damage in a crash. At first, I feared they would catch fire moments after the incidents occurred, but so far nothing has happened yet. So, I'm going to document this experience and just see if these batteries are still stable enough to use...OR if they do indeed need to be disposed of.

Facing Lipo Fears: Part 1: Shorted out and damaged... Are these batteries safe to use? (7 min 50 sec)
