Just finished taking, and passing the TRUST Test....As it turns out, all the pushback on this subject is no more than a tempest in a teacup.

(23) multiple choice questions about how, where, and when we can fly for recreation....basically common sense and courtesy.....took about 15 minutes...

Geez, I'm in withdrawal.....one of the stepper motors on my CNC machine quit working last week, and I couldn't cut anything out. Got a replacement stepper within a few days, replaced the old one, and the machine still wouldn't work....OK...then it had to be software, firmware, or the controller/shield (Arduino). Long story short....Uninstalled all the software/firmware and started from scratch with the most recent releases and drivers. Low and behold, the machine fired right up....But just in case, I have a new controller on the way........On the positive side, this is the first failure I've had since I got the machine in 2015 !

I took Dan Sponholz's Bloody Baron and scaled it up to a 36" wing span, and adapted it to the materials and techniques that I normally use to build foamies. The power plant is larger as is the battery, ESC, and servos. Wish me luck.I'll post progress pic's and a flight video if successful.

Even though the USAF never nicknamed the A9 like the A-10, I'm gonna christen her the A-9 Hedgehog
Once I got her trimmed (1st and 2nd flights) and changed to a heavier battery, she was easy to fly

Just finished this one for one of our new club members, a 15 year old high school student.
He's the nicest, most polite kid I've encountered in a long time.
And he can fly the wings off almost anything .....

And he wants to learn to build !

27 "(685mm) WS, 70mm 6 blade fan, 3000kV motor, 65A ESC, 17gr metal gear digital servos,
Lemon 6-chanel DSMP receiver, 2600mah 45c 4S battery .. ..and my new coffee cup ..... lol

Down to push rods and control horns. A friend of mine is going to 3D print me napalm cannisters for the 10 hardpoints under the wing...The graphics are superb.....between a new Epson 2760 printer and the Avery vinyl, I can't buy anything any easier or better

Our club has a Scale/Warbird Fly-In coming up in early June, and I've been trying to decide what to build.......
Finally settled on the Northrop YA-9......I built her a year ago and she died due to a dumb electrical mistake
on my part.....Gonna try again

Build log will be here: https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...0#post47079263

Venom I was underpowered, Venom II was tail heavy......Venom III.....Weather permitting, she'll fly either tomorrow or Sunday.......the Avery crystal clear vinyl graphics are superb.........The inspiration for this model came from my Einzpfeil, and the Concorde wing........so I mashed them together

Found a better "nacelle". 20oz double wall coffee cup. Increased the ground clearance a bit....headed to the shop to cut a new airframe.

Cup dimensions: 3.25" ID inlet (82.55 mm) A= 8.3 in^2
2.19" ID outlet (55.63 mm) A=3.76 in^2
6.5" overall length
9.3 deg included angle (taper)

Fan dimensions: 2.76" ID Fan Body A =5.98 in^2
1.27" OD Hub A=1.26 in^2
FSA = 4.722 in^2

3.76/4.722 = 80% FSA Efflux

Estimated thrust = 3.45 lbs each fan

Well, she flew just fine......until I hit a dirt clod on the runway and sheared the blades off both fans......I knew the fan intakes were low, but I thought I had enough clearance....Oh well, I'll go back to putting the fans higher on the airframes....live and learn

Venom II flight ready, with Avery clear graphics

For those of you that like to print your own decals, Avery now has DIY Decal Vinyl. It's crystal clear and accepts Inkjet ink....
You have to water proof the ink, but in the long run it'll save you from having to buy custom graphics. Available at most
office supply stores.

Found a couple of previously flown 70 mm fans...so I mashed together the Einzpfeil and the Vulcan

30" WS, (2) 70mm fans, KF-2 wing (what else...lol)......Nacelles are Lenny's Sub Shop drink cups

I cut it out yesterday afternoon. Depending on the paint job, I could possibly finish it today

Because I drove her sister into the ground like a tent stake......got into the sun and everything went white....things happen much too quickly at 30 feet and 100 mph......
